I reckon it should be a good game. We'll have a point to prove after today.

| I was going to try and hold off having a moan to at least the 4th or 5th game if things hadnt changed or got worse.. but i still cant believe with all these new players who were led to believe were much better in defence, but yet we still cant defend out wide, so same old story just with new players. Only thing not changed is the defence coaching team..
Everyone goes on about it take 5 games, well if that is the case and we do lose all 5 of them, then what we 10 points down on the rest and then we lead to believe we make an assault on the top 6/8 (ye right)..
If we lose the first 5 games of the season for the first time i will be one of the first on here asking for Powell to go or at least getting help in. (whats Brian Noble doing these days))

I can't seen many teams been on 10 points after 5 games. Writing your season after teo games against Saints & Warrington is just silly. They will be the top two sides this year.

and a ball retention coach. If the ball was made of velcro and they had gloves to match they'd still cough it up.

On the basis of my opinion.
We got torn to shreds out wide yet again, and whilst Hull don't have the quality of Warrington, they still have good enough players to exploit that.
And they did draw with the Wolves last weekend at their place
If I'm wrong I will gladly accept any abuse flying my way!

I wasnt writing my team off i was writing off the fact out defence is crap and that only thing not changed from last year is the defence coaching team.
And ok i might have worded it wrong about being 10 points down but if we want to challange top 6 or 8 starting from zero is not th best way to do in IMO thats all.
I really do hope that 5 games in (or even next week) i see something diffrent then happy to eat my words. Maybe the one game i saw from last week lead me to believe what happended today wouldnt happen (yes i know dont make sense. )

| Quite a short drive home down the A49, but still so disappointing, don't envy those now making the long
trip home down the M6 and M1.
We started off so well and so many of the team looked good, showing the promise we have hoped for, player like Witt & Chubb to name just two! but after taking the lead we seemed to get into the usual style of giving away penalties, I lost count how many, then being on the line and at the point of scoring only to allow Warrington to come straight down the field and score!
In the last 15 minutes I worried how many they would put on us! Yes I know Warrington are a really good side and what went wrong for them last week I am unsure.
I listened during the game a little to BBC Radio London on the iPhone and such professional full match coverage well informed but any listeners who may have thought about coming along to see a home game may have different thoughts for a while.
Yes it is only the first two games & we still need to gel together as a team but after last weekend today was a real disappointment.

| I'm not downhearted as we know this is a new team (and 2 of our key signings have only just turned up.)
Disappointed in the margin of the defeat though. Wonder how many times Robbo, Dave and Gower have had 50 points put past them? These blow out scores are so rare in the NRL. Puzzles me when we have so many Aussie coaches, trainers and players over here. Don't think these scorelines do much for the credibilty of the game in this country.
Agree with jaybs about the good match coverage by Radio London (and I thought the same thing about the game having a negative effect on anyone thinking of coming to a game).

| Powells post match comments...
Quote "There are some things that still need to improve, but that is what we will work on in training this week.
"We need to make sure we are getting better every week and get stronger as we go along."
Powell added: "The right things were being said and the effort was certainly there.
"We had the chase and we had the scamble, it was just a matter of application at times.
"The new players we have brought in will be really big this week and I am pretty excited about how the players will repond in training."'"
Jesus. This is straight out of the B. Mac book of bad post game comments.

Ok.....do you really think David Hughes is going to sack a coach after two matches of the season, against Saints and Warrington?

| Nope probably not...just posing the question as to how long before we are clamouring for his removal as coach.
To finish in the play offs means winning (or losing) half your games, clearly still a long way to go - but I would suggest a lot of the good things achieved last week have been undone today!

| Not remotely surprised by the Wire result. Top team, at home, squad been together for a while now. Think we could've been better against Saints though, some of their tries were soft but again a top side.
Hull will be a better show of where we are, if I'm being 100% honest I expect us to lose that too but we'll see.

| When does it become a coaching issue, didn't see today, but saw the skolars game, and the signs don't seem good.
A heavy friendly defeat in France, a win over Skolars and two defeats to St Helens and Warrington.
Name changes, player changes, but still the same coaching team and set-up, The coaching team if you take it a stage further are basically McDermotts staff with no changes and new input for over 3 seasons, other than a change in conditioner.
Not knocking Powell seems a decent bloke, and has publicly dealt with everything thrown at him with great dignity, I have no doubt he is badged and qualified to the hilt, but can people see any progression. The last two seasons were difficult, all sorts of stories about where we were with the salary cap, an ageing thin squad, so there were issues, even issues with the clubs super league future.
This season story, we are giving it a go, we change our name and image, we recruit and we are told we are up to our salary cap limit, not sure if this includes Mr Hickey (who im told we having to pay off) and still we persist with exactly the same coaching team, before the first game we are told we not yet firing and have some way to go before we are up to speed.
I have been on a number of coaching course over the years, where I see coaches who are qualified to the hilt, but have never managed or controlled a squad of players, technically brilliant and clever sharp and can set up coaching sessions all day long, could they manage a team and the day to day issues of managing players 99per cent of them...no, can they change tat-tics mid game as a game changes....no, can they talk to players...no, can they motivate....
Players play for managers who can get the best out of them, and who they believe in. Good managers learn and then know what makes a group of players tick, it has to be two way thing. Players will play for managers they respect and understand both on and off the pitch, I would suggest it would take a truly exceptional manager/coach at Mr Powells age and top level experience age to win over and mould an ever changing mediocre squad with all the problems that have gone on the last three years.
Mr Powell as I understand, never played the game other than at uni, has managed South London Storm, and the U20s, then went on to being an assistant to Mac. I think we understand that you don't need to have played the game at the top level to be a good coach/manager, but there aren't many exceptions to this rule.
Has he really the experience, with all due respect I'm guessing no, is that his fault no, have the senior players let him down, not sure. Just a thought, were has he got his player management skills from, who does he turn to for advice.
I would imagine its a tough and lonely job when you are learning your trade in such a high level job, Super league is full of people with far more playing and management experience that will never get anywhere near the top job and managing a super league club.
On what we know, what did we really expect from him, Given his experience and what he has had to work with.

London v St Helens.....2011.......18 Point loss, 2010, 12 point loss
Wire v london....2011....... 76 point loss, 2010, 58 point loss.......
Sorry....but 2 losses from 2 games that we had little chance of winning is hardly "sac mac" territory......if we beat the teams like Widnes, Salford, HKA and Wakefield, that we should beat, we will have more points than at any time as Quins RL........
Last year we doubled the champs and did the other GF lot away.......was that the coach too?
July...that's when you sharpen the axe.......

| Rob should have always had someone working with him with experience as a Director of Rugby to bring him through, but then you look at Salford and the Director of Rugby Simm keeps appointing Coaches, never seems to let them breath and walk themselves and then sacks them while he stays?
