Perfect example is when i tell ppl im going to the rugby at twickenham they automatically presume im going to watch rugby union. Surely the club needs its own identity?'"
Hear hear, when i told a colleague who is league supporter and played ameture for the police that i was going to twickers he made the sam presumtion

| Who cares what we are called? If you mention Harlequins and they assume RU, correct them. If someone sees an advert for London Beachturtles they'd be no more in the know as to who the club are. Harlequins RL - does the RL not give it away to some people?

| It is actually quite good publicity as Listy says. You can point out the error and educate the person, this has happened to me on numerous occasions. When we were Broncos the man on the Clapham omnibus thought we were an American football team.

because nobody ever mistook the London Broncos for an American Football team r Ice Hockey outfit
People need to get over this Union thing...........by all means swap the away and home shirts, but FFS......where to next> Milton Keynes/Oxford? LONDON RL needs a London team and the stoop is fine.......It may not be built on top of a tube station but it's hardly the noth face of Everest either.

| the rfl really needs to set up/fund a rugby league promotions/media team in london, to promote the quins and test matches in the capital and challenge cup final to london residents. they could even help the skolars as well! real effort to make contacts in london media is needed.
if quins are to stay in super league they need marketing and if you look at how melbourne storm have done it (increased crowds) was in conjunction with arl/nrl hold big matched in the melbourne and promoting the sport as a whole and schedulling nrl game on the back of origin, same could be done in london with test and challenge cup final. also every player in the quin squad should be development and promotions work for the club.

| Quote ="RugbyLeague56"Which ever way you look at it, the home crowd numbers this weekend for Quins RL and Crusaders RL stand in stark relief.
Wrexham is a relatively small town in Flintshire, whereas London, in contrast, is a major conurbation with one of the largest city populations anywhere in the world - complete with a fair-sized population of Antipodeans who've grown up watching rugby league down under.
'"
Don't you think that quite a few of those 6,124 spectators turned up to see arguably the biggest Welsh RU to RL convert since Scott Quinnell take the field for his first match?
Quote ="RugbyLeague56"
I so wish David Hughes would at last accept that the only thing really standing in the way of the development of Qunis RL is Brian McDermott.
Are there any readers of this forum who still believe Brian Mc Dermott is the right coach for the club?'"
Yes, I do.
What are your coaching alternatives?

| Quote ="Homer"They did, all the time.
There have always been dicussions over the name and when we were the Bronco's as many debates raged about both the London [too wide a demographic and Broncos [NFL comparisons all them time as do about the Quins name now.'"
I think that was the point...
The Stoop is not the problem. Broncos got 5000+ crowds there ten years ago when the RU team barely tolerated their presence. In my opinion, the constant moving after that really hurt the club and destroyed the foundation of support that had been built, I mean, Charlton ffs! Moving again is, at best, going to provide a short term spike in attendances out of local curiosity that will inevitably fall when the club is not promoted to those who don't go, and fails to achieve in front of those who do.
Until players return from injury I don't think much will change on the playing side. When you have a team missing both first choice halfbacks, the first choice hooker and loose forward you're always going to see real trouble. But off the field the club needs to be promoted and promoted heavily and if Quins can't afford to do that themselves then the RFL need to put their hands in their pockets and help out. Sky have made it clear that Super League without a London team is something they are not prepared to pay anywhere near as much for as SL with Quins, so some RFL spending might annoy heartlanders in the short term but would be helping the game long-term. Ads on the tube would be perfect - they were stunningly successful in the 95 World Cup ahead of the Wembley matches. Moreover, internationals at the Stoop need to be strategically linked to the long-term growth of Quins RL. It's no good just putting an Aus-NZ game at the Stoop and expecting it to magically lead to increased attendances the following season. How about offering everyone there a half-price season ticket for the following year?
I'd also like to see the mid-season England match played down at the Stoop (when it's not in France). Contrary to the RFL's belief, expat Antipodeans are not the only people in London who will come out for an international. Hook the locals with the lure of seeing their country in action (if it's in a thumping victory over a spirited but over-matched France all the better) and use that to draw them in.
Promotion is next to non-existant at the moment. I only live a short distance from the Stoop but the only advertising I've ever seen for games around here are the posters I've put up myself!

No, RU doesn't register on the radar in mid and North Wales, they're only interested in soccer - the Merseyside clubs in particular.

| if a london sides going to work they are gonna have to have every player doin marketing and promotions on a weekly basis. they need a certain amount of funding to promote league in general in the city not just the quins but the sport as well. that would have to come from the rfl.they have to find a way to make the kids and there parents involved in playing the sport become spectators as well. maybe a london super league side could link up with a soccer side like the whelsh super league side.
thers 10 m illion people there and must be able to figure out a way to get people from north of england, aussies, kiwis along to games as well as people originally from london to a game. find a few high profile suppourters to make apperances at games, sign a well known aussie or kiwi player, maybe even a gimmick dwayne chambers type of signing to get some media exposure.... i sure thrers a million good ideas that havnt been tried as of yet.
how many incarnations have this side had since they were fulham - were they the london crusaders for a while? - london bronco's now - the harlequins

I have even started posting comments regarding Rugby......... who would have thought.

| tre cool good on you supporting your side dude. but unless you find another 2,500 fans to add to your well below par 2,500 crowds to take it up to the 5,000 you wont have a team!
even toulouse who are in the mid/lower reaches of the division below supper league can get 2,500 crowds!
widnes would have 10,000 crowds guarented if they were in super league. they only reason anybody wants you still in the super league is because londons is an important city for rugby league to have a presence in! market yourself now or go play london skolars in division 3!

Widnes were in SL for four consecutive seasons and never once pulled a crowd of 10,000, never mind averaging that figure.

I was going to post that but really don't see what use comparing our gates to anyone else is. We suffer with low awareness and will continue to struggle until something changes at the club. Until then, pointing out that Widnes, with 100+ years of history and pretty much SFA else to do over the weekend could attract 3 times the gates we get isn't really the work of a brain surgeon
Back to the OP.......crusaders are doing fine and deserve a lot of credit for their gates.....but again, their gates are their gates......nothing to do with Quins RL.
