| Regarding the field kicking there were a bunch of idiots behind me who kept whining everytime Chad or Danny deliberately kicked the ball dead to get a Hull restart on the 20. They were under the delusion that it was a bad kick, as opposed to a very good, deliberate tactic to make Hull play their way out of their own half on a night not suited to free running rugby.

| Quote ="Kelvin's Ferret"A few of Silverwood's decisions did appear to be little more than random guesses because he didn't really have a clue, which is always problematic for fans, but that's as much the fault of the touch judges for not paying attention or simply bottling it.
'"
I thought Silverwood (himself) had a decent game, I think most of the quesionable decisions were really the failure of the touch judges.
A really good Quins performance, especially the second-half, to grind out a deserved win.
Area I'd like to see improved - kicks from penalties. Quins most of the time seem to get about 15 metres. Other teams seem to get nearer 30.

| The kick from the base of the scrum by Purds for the try was a move that England used and scored from In Aus during the world cup, funy old thing, was Purds at the base of the scrum, if it had come off that would have been in line for try of the season and we are only what? a third in?
Kelvin! the linesman can only signal the ref, they cannot actually make the decision, the ref will look to the TJ for guidance and then make his own decision, he does not have to blow for a fwd pass even if the TJ signals it if he thinks it was not actually forward.
Field kicking from us was a bit poor, will be interestin g to hear the sky view on it when i watch again, as for kicking dead for the 20 mtr restart, happened far too often for it not to be a tactic, its something we used to do a couple of years ago, kick dead and set the defence at the 20. I did think the new ruling meant that the ref should have ensured the defence was set before the ball was played, and the quick restart from the 20 was only allowed from a kick diffused in goal

Then why not signal it? He saw it was clearly forward, he went to signal and then stopped. If the ref then over rules the touch judge despite having the lesser view of the pass, then we know the ref is a cheat, but as long as the touch judge turns a blind eye then it's he who is cheating.

| Great win, although not particularly entertaining it was just what was needed in the conditions and with the injuries weve got. A bit concerned by our halves kicking game, poor at best. Was always a worry with Orr and Dorn in the halves but i think we'll pay for it a few times this season. Randall can't kick from dummy half every set....or can he?!?

Yer that would have been a magic try, but wouldn't have made up for his 79 minutes of invisibility.
(And yes before anybody pipes up, I realise it was a forwards match but I guess that further emphasises that Dorn is a cr*p flat track bully)

I think although he was once again rather invisible he was not given much of an opportunity to assert himself. He is only really given the ball when we are close to the opposition try line and that didn't happen very often on saturday. The rest of the time it is quite clear that it is left to Orr and Randall to run the show. Which I think is a good tactic by Brian McDermott.

why does that make him a cheat? sorry but have to stick up for the ref here, why on earth would he cheat? Dont forget that they are wired up and talk to each other, TJ may have called "might have been fwd" or "it was fwd" its still down to the ref to decide if it was the rediculous momentum pass!!
Do you know what the TJ signal actually is for a fwd pass?
Still need to watch the game again for the other calls which seemed odd from the stand and they will probably balance out over the game
BUT cheat!!!! why would he?

| the one call that annoyed me as a Hull fan was giving a knock on against us in the 2nd half. Manu offloaded backwards, yeamo then tried to pick it up but knocked it backwards yet a scrum was awarded??
I think it was that set that the 40/20 came from and soon as that was given i knew the game had gone

No that was the one that lead to Clubb's try. but it all worked out even in the end as you got a try when think it was Tickle knocked on in the tackle and ref gave you a penalty as he claimed howell had tried to steal the ball with two in the tackle, (think thats how they explained it on Sky )

This happens all the time and happened at least once to us on Saturday. As soon as someone fumbles the ball the ref's looking to give a knock on regarless of whether ir not it went forward. Ludicrous really considering the number of blatant forward passes that are allowed to go. I suppose if the ref can't be sure it went forward or not and it's obviously a fumble he's not going to give that team the benefit of the doubt.

| I think both teams got some "dodgy" decisions.
Mr Silverwood got some stick from our end during the first half just after the first hull try.
What happened to Gafa, any news?

Yep sorry got confused!!
Like offiah said on the commentary though, the penalty could have gone to Hull as tickle was tackled without the ball. It was a shockingly telegraphed play but the ball hit Purdham's (?) arm as he had already made contact

Pulled a Hamstring in training on Friday, he was in the Jesters Club before the game, and having gone into the Jesters club after being recomended it by others, I have to say it is great in there, £8 for a meal (£4 for kids is brilliant value), a good match build up with team sheet, drinks in glasses, and also entry at half time to beat all the queues for a drink Well Done for this one Quins, I will be going back there next week if its on again.

The TJ saw the forward pass, it was a clear forward pass, not a line ball or a flat pass, it was obvious and that's why he saw it and reacted the way he did. He started to raise his arm to signal the ref just after the pass went forward, he was looking directly at the play, in line with it (just like I was) and he saw it go forward just like I did and all the others who were approximately in line with it. He started to raise his arm and then decided to pull it back abruptly, that he saw it I have no doubt about, he gave himself away on that one, but admittedly the ref may have made the decision to turn a blind eye.
Now, this brings me back to the issue of cheating, there is no discretion to turn a blind eye to a forward pass, it's not an optional law. If the TJ turned a bling eye he is cheating, if the ref knows the TJ saw it go forward and turns a blind eye he is cheating. I have some sympathy for TJ's where a ref's ego makes them over rule their TJs' even though they have the poorer view, and in this case the TJ had the clear view, being in line with the forward pass. The ref was 10 metres or so away, at an angle and obscured by defenders.
The genuinely odd calls are usually when the official(s) doesn't actually see something happen and just guess, which leads to an outcome that makes no sense.

Yes. You can tell when they've called it as they stand still where it took place.

He didn't wave his flag, or unfurl it. He lifted his arm up (which was holding the flag) just after the clear forward pass, then he abruptly put it down.
