| I have only posted on here a couple of times but feel I must once again put pen to paper.
AN announcement is due from the club office – it has not yet been made and already people are voicing negative thoughts such as :
=blueRob from Erith - As long as he remembers RL is a different animal to the toffs game!
Why is it a toffs game – does that mean RL fans have no decorum, decent life styles or money in their pocket
=blueDave Lister - As much as he would bring, ATEOD i'd rather we were a struggling "proper" RL club than a Union club playing League. AND Don't get me wrong (and i'm not accusing you of doing so), I think there is potential for Harlequins RL to be a successful club but changing Harlequins RL into a Union style club would be wrong IMO as the 2 products and experiences are very different.
What is a proper RL club? I thought it was one where people attended through love of the game and it had a professional structure in place. Why has the club mentioned they will change the style. In fact where has the club mentioned anything at the moment it is all supposition
Finally
With regards to your final paragraph, being very stereotypical, but IMO fairly, a rugby league fan is a different breed to a rugby union fan and I personally would be disgusted if our club began to be followed by this other "type". We have a fantastic following as it is, the people are out there all over London and the South of England, and just need to be tempted in.
I have been an RU fan for a vast number of years loved playing the game and watching as I got too old to play. I discovered the RL at the Manly game and attended Wigan and Warrington. I love it I intended to keep coming back. But it is closed minds like yours which stop expansion. As I am the other ‘type’ should I stay away and cancel my ticket for Hull and the tickets I have booked for my RU friends as they too are the other type.
Like I said previously the annopuncement is not yet made and people are jumping to conclusions. Open your minds and listen to what is being said.
Finally s I am from the old school can anyone tell me what AETOD means?

| ATEOD - At the end of the day
The perception of rugby union as a toff's game is antiquated and outdated. These days people of all social classes watch rugby union and the "experience" of going to games is pretty much the same for every sport, never mind just the two codes of rugby. Meet friends, watch game, abuse referee good-naturedly, enjoy a bit of banter, have drinks, go home. Ok, some football fans might include "have punch-up" in the experience, and they have to wait until after the game for a drink, but that's it. Or do we think that going to a union match involves formal dress, silver service and a ball after the game?

| I am a RU supporter as well. I went to a couple of games last year - the St Helen's and Castleford games. Unfortunately the side lost both heavily and I was put off. However I had learnt (most) of the rules and began to appreciate RL.
This season I came along to the Manly game and decided to give Quins RL another chance. I'm glad I did - what a result against Warrington. I brought my daughter along as well. She is a real RU supporter more so than me and she was ecstatic by the end. Ok I realise that it wont always be this way but it was nice to see Quins winning finally!!!
I don't expect all your new fans to come from the RU club, but it is madness not to make the most of the opportuity.
I hope you can grow your crowds as the RU club has done and look forward to supporting a successful RL side in the years ahead.

I paid more than £60 for my CCF ticket last season. I would not describe any of the people in the same seating section as "toffs".
(Except for myself of course. )

| Stupid and old fashioned stereotypes about toffs and differences between RU/RFL should be confined to the 1930's and i am appalled at Lister and anyone else saying they "dont want the wrong type of fan" coming along and spoiling our nice cosy 3,000. a while back people said they did not want those nasty and very quiet Aussie fans coming to our ganmes.
Get real - we need to grow our crowds to 5,000 and beyond i dont care if they come from Mars are deaf mutes and dont understand the rules. If they pay for their ticket, buy some bear and food the club will become a success and they will learn the rules, the ability to sing and shout at the referee and love the game.
Lets all get a grip of this. Really good to see some quins RU fans are coming and enjoying. I love rugby, was a season ticket holder for both codes for a while and get to see the Quins RU now on a regular basis - good luck to us both.
Mark Evans - has done wonders at Quins RU, we need some drive good move.End of story

| Chelsea charge £95 for some tickets......are they toffs.
This us and them b0ll0x is stupid. WE ARE HARLEQUINS RUGBY LEAGUE and will by association be lumped together with the other bigger more successful side of the club. So what? I don't go to their Union games, they (in the main) don't come to ours and never the twain shall meet. Suits me fine.
We have a certain level of stability at the moment that I can't recall since I started watching and for that I will be eternally grateful to IL, DH and the guys at Harlequins Union.

| As anybody who's read my posts over the years would know, I do not like rugby union, and that's an understatement.
However, I don't understand any antipathy to the rumoured appointment of Mark Evans as CEO or similar of Quins RL. He has been supportive of this venture ever since it started and since then it has been hinted that the two organisations might at some stage, like after about 3 years, come closer together. Evans runs a very successful organisation at present and, with his track record, should be welcomed.
BTW, he's already "on board" quite literally, he sits on the Quins RL board in an advisory capacity.

I agree. People are whining because it was suggested that people don't want their RL club to turn into a RU club, a totally different entity. Nobody said it was going to happen, yet some kneejerkers took it that way

| Plus, the attitudes of the majority of Union fans towards RL, and vice-versa, suggests that there is an element of "us vs them". But hey, keep those blinkers on if you like and pretend we can all live as 1 club. We can't. It will never happen. I can't stand rugby union and all that it stands for and how it operates and I hope our match days are never turned into anything like that.
BUT JUST TO REMIND THOSE PEOPLE ALREADY STEAMING AT READING THIS
I believe Evans IS indeed a shrewd businessman and can use his skills on our product too.

£50 is the top price for our top international game this season. You can also obtain tickets for £20. Tell me where I can get a Six Nations ticket at Twickers for £20 and we'll talk.

First and foremost, Mark Evans is a business man. If it is his appointment to some sort of overlord position that is the announcement (any one seen anything official yet???), then it is because he can see the potential in the RL club and we can see his undoubtedly successful track record.
To be hoest, those people who stopped supporting the club when it became quins RL are no loss and neither are those that have said they will stop coming if we strengthen the ties.

OK, but is that down to "toffs" or to supply and demand? Maybe a bit of each, but I'd say it's mostly the latter. If RL could fill big stadiums for RL internationals, the prices would surely rise.

Both indeed. Its inelastic though as people will be able to and will pay for whatever extortinate price is put forward.
When RL was played at an international level at Wembley, prices were very reasonable and comparable to those of today.

Well done and keep it up mate. We need more 'unblinkered' people like you.
You are the sort of person we should be encouraging to come. RL is a different game to RU and the more you watch it and get to understand it the more you will appreciate it and enjoy it. Theres no need for this either or attitude. Whilst people can have a preference for either code I dont see the sense in people like Lister coming out with all these 'hate' verbals when we are trying to encourage RU fans to try watching RL. People should be made welcome if we want them to come. More fans are esssential for our survival/success. Allienating them is stupid.

Oh I don't have any problems with them finally seeing the light. Rugby Union is sh*t though and has been taking swipes at our wonderful sport for years.
I think you will find the overwhemling majority of RL fans think the same.

and with that attitude, is it any wonder that the Union lot don't come along.
I watch both games and as I can understand the rules of both, as well as the tactics used, I can enjoy both.
I freely admit that Union is becoming very very very tedious at the moment and their constant tinkering with the rules is making the game a kickathon, but I will still watch and appreciate some of the finer things about it.

| I don't actually mind watching RU, I'm just old-school, I'd never pay to watch something which I perceive as fundamentally an amateur pursuit (yes I know it's now professional - but certain aspects of the game remain distinctly amateur in their design).
