| We have a team which is underperforming. While the players need to share the blame we have a coach who has no experience and it is now well beyond a joke that he is still in charge.

Ok, so assuming that Warrington, Wigan and Leeds are the top 3, then you're saying you think the Broncos squad is better than Saints ? Huddersfield ? Hull ? Catalans ?
That's not optimistic, it's delusional !
Genuine best-case optimism would have said a maximum finish of 8th, with all the above clubs having a clearly stronger squad than London (spending up to the cap isn't all that great if you have to spend twice as much to get a mid-ranking player than a northern club, because said player doesn't want to leave his mum's cooking).
Guarded optimism would have said that Hull KR and Bradford had similar standard squads, so anywhere between 8th and 10th would be doing well.
Pessimism put Broncos alongside Wakey, Cas and Salford in 10th-13th. Widnes a clear 14th.
Never 4th. Never in a million years. Not with this squad.

Goodness no. I don't think they will come anyway near the playoffs now. They are dreadful.
Was saying why I said fourth - for sure optimistic but more to
Do with their only being a couple of good sides in the comp.
If I was a supporter of any other side outside the elite handful I would be hoping for fourth too.

Blimey Darth, I thought I could be optimistic.
As for spending to the cap, is it all still relative to your turnover? Or is it like the NRL where everyone has the same cap? If the former is the case, then us spending to the cap would be a much smaller figure than a larger club spending to the cap.

| OK, they are all meant to be on the same cap.
However:
Under changes agreed this week at a meeting of Super League representatives in Harrogate, clubs which produce players for England’s elite training squad and the Knights will be given special dispensation to break the £1.65million wage limit.
The actual amount of allowances is not being disclosed but the dispensations are on a graduated scale and the maximum permitted to any one club is £100,000.
And if you can be bothered to read the 150 odd pages on the salary cap from the rfl, you'll see there can be bonuses etc. etc.

If we're spending cap relative to income then that would explain why we are crap......no sponsors, no commercial partners, no stock in the shop and only 13,372 through to doors thus far over 5 games.......tracking for a total income through ticket sales of about 350k........+ Profits from selling 6 different items in the shop including replica shirts and a few bob in the bars........all in, less than 700k IMO. Add SKY TV money and you're on about 2 million......
Use the same maths for say , Wigan and you're looking at over double that.......even the likes of Wakefield will be on a Million more income and that money comes directly (gate/shop/beer) and indirectly (sponsors) from SUPPORTERS....

| The RFL dropped the 50% of income part of the salary cap several years ago. Now it's a general 1.65m with extras for certain specified players and bonuses.

Nothing for London Weighting though. Despite what our friends up north think, this element does play a part as we don't get as much bang for our bucks.

| We can never have a level playing field...look at that Wire team that put the cleaners through Cas...no M Monaghan, Morley, Carvell or Solomona and they still have the team to annihilate another SL club.
Got to say I'm getting rather dis-enchanted with the GG at the moment. Too many blow-out matches (and my team are in a lot of them!).

Still find it hard to identify where 1.65 million is being spent on the shower currently weraring the clubs colours. 9 cockneys on the park last week, with maybe clubby being on a better whack than most, but I suspect the dorns and howells are costing us more than they are worth, along with Chad, witt and possiblu Juju.....

| Just wish we had a competition where everyone has the same (or nearly the same) chance of winning.
Quite frankly, they may as well have an 8 team sooper dooper league and cut the rest of us adrift.
Gawd, this rain is making me feel really negative today.

Fourteen teams is only about right, I would have gone for sixteen at one stage, but even twelve is far too small!

hah no. Well maybe the names of the divisions but most of the rest should be a fundamental.
Why on earth all the clubs fork out on seperate web presences and associated pr time and money that goes into running them when microsites from the main league page is good enough for the likes of the Yankees and the LA Lakers is beyond me.
NFL lives with having one kit manufacturer supply all the kits to all the teams - RL cant?
Teams in the lower leagues have v little chance of getting into SL at the moment - expand -close and create a feeder comp with the div below.
Split the divs into geographical rivals and cut the fixtures to allow more time for the national side to train together.
Split revenues to allow the smaller sides to compete and give the bigger sides the oppo to increase salary cap giving the better players more potential to earn in the sport rather than leave.
Off season draft for players to create big media focus when rest of the comp is in hybernation - only need to see the NFL draft on Thursday to see the impact of that.
Draft gives the crap teams hope for future.
Shared ownership of league rather than individual ownership of teams means it is in everyone's best interest to see all teams work.
Just a couple of thoughts prob all lunacy and will never come to pass but current model has left the sport with a faint scent of death about it.

| You wouldn't be saying that if we were having a good season. Massive knee jerk. Nothing wrong with the current model itself, more key stakeholders within the game who are making some horrendous choices.
I quite like the ridiculousness of it all but your notion that is apparently 'rubbish' that 24 teams cannot be supported is incredibly inaccurate and let's your whole plan down.

Was scribed in the off-season so not really knee jerk.
Interesting view point that the game cant support or look to grow to a further 10 fully pro teams. Sad if that is true though.

Interesting but realistic at the moment. And I noted when it was written, after our wonderful effort last year.

If the American model for sport is so good why do other countries not bother playing them or replicate the model etc

Yup.
One thing that really doesn't help Rugby League are its miserable, negative, fickle supporters. I find Mr Rugby League's stance on this very amusing considering he was bagging our supporters a few months ago for not going to away matches and not supporting our great game, now he is the one producing rants about how the sport is on its , while he doesn't bother going to any away matches himself as we are getting hammered every week.
