| Wayne Bennett would never have put this squad together in the first place. That's why BM has to go, whatever the sie of his playing budget (and we're told it's not far off the maximum) he has spent it atrociously.

Now there's a thought - the thought, I suspect, being 'in our dreams.'

| Listy, until Monday I was more than willing to back McDermott. In fact I seem to recall receiving the sharp edge of your tongue on here towards the end of last season when you were against him and I supported him. Monday was the nadir. The lack of passion in the players really did for me on Monday. Our club is in a very sorry state right now. However, I think the one thing we all need to remember is that the only way McDermott will go is if:
a) he is offered the England job
b) he resigns
because we cannot afford to pay up his contract.

| With BM playing all these players out of position the chaos that we see on the pitch is hardly surprising. The players will not be happy and will just go through the motions.

| The evidence on Monday was that, once again, our players have made the choice, they do not wish to play for the current coach. That leaves us with two options:-
1) The coach goes.
2) Nearly all our players go.
I have no idea why our players want the Coach out. It may be they are a precious bunch of fools and Mac is telling them justified things they can't handle. It may be that Mac ain't the best when it comes to man management. I don't know and frankly no-one outside of the players/staff does. What I do know is that we can't carry on as we are and when players decide the coach must go, irrespective of the sport, they generally win.

Surreyben, as one of the more reasonable posters on here, I will reply to your comments.
Yes, I was one of the people who has demanded that McDermott be sacked since last year, you are spot on with that. Like you say though, the Hull KR game was a real eye opener. Even our so called half decent players are falling apart, and we are replacing them with rubbish. Can you remember the feeling of being excited about watching a signing? People here are saying that it is McDermott's responsibility - but look at the players we have signed. We are paying them pennies, clearly, after making the mistake of signing Robinson and Williamson.
No coach in the world could work with our budget. We need to sell out to somebody and become Virgin Harlequins, or something like that, and assemble the best Australian team we can manage. Let them play some decent rugby. 90% of the "legends" of our club are Australian, and there is good reason for that. The so called next generation, LMS and Clubb, aren't even fit to lace the boots of Matterson, Gill, Dymock, Moran, Mbu (in my life time).

Ladies and Gentlemen.....I give you Rupe2
Sorry, but if going back to the assumption that we will attract transient fans by employing transient players is the answer then I'd rather the club went south and started again in C1. As for stars of the game.....get real. No London player, even the so called legends, were ever true stars. Most were journeymen travellers who endeared themselves to our fans by being 100% commited......but all had skills that were utilised rather than coached out of them.
This squad, in the main, were top 4 this time last year.....what is the common demominator?
LMS was a real prospect.....Mac has coached it out of him. Haven't seen this year, but god knows I saw enough last year to know that Mac is not the answer...he is the problem!

Be fair gutterfax, we had people who were like legends to us and had played for Australia and/or in Origin. A few even left the Broncos to go on and win NRL Premierships or represent their countries or states.
I didn't get that Listy was saying to get these players for marketing purposes TBH. More to improve our team. Is that how you read it?

| Personally, I think whatever went wrong happened between our hammering of HKR at Craven Park and the home defeat by Leeds a week later which is when the wheels started to fall off. Perhaps we'll find out one day, I just hope it's not in the club's obituary notice.

| I've only really turned against BMcD this season, last season I was in the camp that said it won't make any difference bringing in a new coach if we're not going to strengthen. This season I think there is plenty to show that he's just not up to it, the garbled team selection yesterday only made the underlying problems worse, whilst players like Clubb and LMS have gone backwards, in Clubb's case through being mucked about and LMS probably due to playing in a weak pack. The signings have been dreadful, we critically needed one halfback with a good kicking game and one decent prop in the off season, we got neither, we did get some dross like James and Wilkes which is just a waste of money.
A new coach might not be able to bring in new players, but he might be able to sort something out where we actually play what we have got to their potential rather than doing pointless s[size=1.[/sizeh[size=1.[/sizeite like swapping Randall and Orr, or playing Melling in the second-row whilst Clubb plays at centre etc...

| Quote Dave Lister="Dave Lister"Can't be bothered reading and replying to the threads in detail. I have seen a fair few comments with regards to our coach but today has changed my opinion massively. McDermott can stay. As I was saying to Paddock Punter after the game, Wayne Bennett could coach the current squad and would do no better. I could coach the side and get the same out of them. If you really think the problem lies with our coach then you are a dilusional idiot who cannot see the real issues.
WTF are we, a soccer side? Blaming the coach when the real issue lies with our PATHETIC group of players? I will actually defend Brian McDermott all day long. It is NOT his fault. And as for the message sent to me on FB from 12000 miles away, absolutely do one. You really have no idea.'"
Joke post
FFS, Quins have lost 22 of their last 24 games. Jeez. Yes, resources are limited, but are you seriously telling me they're any more limited at Cas or Wakey? Do me a favour. Neither of those clubs lose over 90% of their games, and so weakly, good God so insipidly, demoralisingly, stomach-churningly weakly...
I watched a very limited Rovers side struggle against a poor FC side last Friday. KR had few ideas, and limited attacking penetration. The internet was awash with "woe is me" and "we have no creativity" postings all weekend. And then the same team look like the harlem globtrotters against Quins, who were an absolute shambles. No ifs, no buts, it was just a total disgrace to watch.
Consistently the worst performances (and note, not necessarily the worst set of players) I've seen since moving to the big smoke in 2000. If the incumbent coach of several years standing is not accountable for that, then who is?
It is obvious that McDermot is (a) unable to source, attract or choose good talent, (b) unable to retain what talent he has, (c) unable to maintain the competence levels of the people he somehow manages to retain regardless of his aforementioned weakness in talent management (cf Clubb and LMS), let alone improve it and (b) unable to organise any remaining limited resources in the most effective way possible. That is pretty much the dictionary definition of management incompetence. If he was OK at any one of those four key areas, Quins might be a better side. But he fails on every count.
Game over, time to move on, goodbye.

I'll give you a), but who know's how much say he had over signing Williamson and Robinson? I bet the other signings we have made are being paid very little, and this shows in the quality of the play.
Who has McDermott failed to retain?! I can only think of Joe Mbu.
Are Clubb and LMS the first 2 players to have gone down hill? How about the suggestion that players were playing well above their level and were overhyped? I would say this was certainally the case with Clubb, perhaps not LMS.
There are limited resources and there are insufficient resources, two very different things.

Comments made at Fans Forum at the time would suggest he had everything to do with their signings and that we pushed out the boat to get them as BMcD wanted to build our playing style around them.
