Does the RFL know what it's meant to be??
Perhaps they'll employ [url=http://www.google.com/hostednews/ukpress/article/ALeqM5iWKAkpdqy7IJhGMgCHPSX3BEsjzg?docId=N0281891290712894533AMark Evans[/url to sort out the thorny issue of growing crowds for Super League.
But then again with a substantial track record like his I wouldn't be suprised if he ended up working for another RU outfit such as the Melbourne Rebels in Oz.

| I'm not that impressed by Mark Evans. The clowns that endure 80 minutes of Harlequins Rugby Union clearly are the most easily influenced/brainwashed people in the whole world (no offence to those on here that watch that tripe, at least you have SOME taste).

Sorry Listy....but even you, regardless of your opinion on Kick and clap, have to admit the man has taken a 2nd rate Union organisation and made them a well supported, financially viable entity.
I would think that if we could afford Evans services, PB would be looking for another job.....no harm meant to him, but not a lot has changed since he became GM, apart from his new job title.
As it is, I would HOPE that the club make massive gains in attendance figures for the 2011 season.....it is still the No1 area of concern for the RFL and now DH has said he will open his wallet for a few more years, the best way to reduce his overheads and ease the worries of the RFL is to become more sustainable...through regular income.......through ticket sales.....
Paddock...before you point out the marketing slant in this post.....I will do it for you. This post has a marketing slant!

If we can afford his services, we should commission him, or another consultant in his business.
Why is it so hard for people to imagine him and Blanchard working together? Consultants get hired all the time. You could say it is part of their remit to tell people like Blanchard where they're going wrong, which I'm sure Evans would be able to do.

I agree, if we can afford him let's see what he can do, rather than spending £50k on a second rate aussie, lets hire him for a few months with a specific remit to market the club. I see no reason why him and PB could not work together.

| But if DH has done the deal we think he has with the RFL regarding responsibility and funding for the promotion/development of the game in the south, then would it not be the RFL that would be picking up the tab (if they felt inclined to leverage off ME`s record at Quins)?

| Seems daft to bring him in on consultant rates now when we should have been tapping into his expertise for free for the last few years. Wasn't he even acting in some non-executive capacity on the board.

That was more a case of "please don't fine us too much...we're skint" as against an actual fact...they have a few quid in the bank.

It's all about timing, promotion and sticking with things - three reasons why MM gets smaller crowds - that and RL fans being some of the worst in the world
Quins big game doesnt net them a penny but they continue to push it as its remarkable advertisng. Only problem I see with it is that those who maybe go to one or two games a season go to the Big Game and not any other.
But living in the area it has certainly become "the thing" to do on boxing day

| Interesting posts on Mark Evans.
Should the RFL be talking to him and engaging his services to raise the profile of Quins RL.
If he has been so successful in marketing the RU side, I see no reason why he could not do the
same for Quins RL.
In my view, success in London would be a very positive achievement for Rugby League, and no doubt
would see Sky pumping more money into our game.
Your thoughts, Londoners.

Well I don't think we'd have much to lose by having a punt on him. I'm sure he'd do more than Paul Blanchard has (which as far as I can see amounts to f**k all squared in a box!)

| The guy's a professional right? So if we employ him then he's going to have to do a job for us surely? Don't think the issue is RU v RL here, its more a case of can he use his abilities to do for us what he did for HRU.

| The bigger our crowds get the more the RU club will charge us for rent. We still need a home to call our own IMO, somewhere we're wanted and encouraged to grow by the stadium owners, preferably a local council and with a long lease. We can market all we want but not many sports clubs can truly succeed as mere tenants and we're no different.

Evans has done a fantastic job at Quins RU and was convinced that Quins RL would at least average 5000 a match which sadly hasnt happened cant seem him being interested in Quins RL but hey ho you never know anyhone would be BTB (better than blanchard) WHO IS TOTALLY USELESS AND A WASTE OF SPACE
Your thoughts, Londoners.
