| Quote ="ChiswickWire"I really don't understand why you'd leave the Stoop to be honest. It's a great ground and is one of the main selling points of a Broncos match - being able to mix with the players, have a chat with the Sky presenter, the band playing etc. all make it a different experience than other RL grounds. Granted, some of that is because the crowds are smaller, but you will lose this if you go to Brisbane Rd or Gillingham.
The issue is lack of / poor marketing allied to a poor team.'"
I agree entirely, but presumably those running the club feel they can get a better rent deal elsewhere. Personally I'd be very wary of moving for that reason. I mean, in life you generally get what you pay for, and The Stoop is the most suitable ground of good quality I can think of for this club. Presumably there is an average crowd figure needed to break even, and that figure may be lower at Leyton or Gillingham than at The Stoop. However, there must be a lot of overheads associated with moving in the first place, we've moved too often in the past, and one way and another it never seems to work out for the best.
As you say, poor marketing and a poor team must have been factors in the low crowds, and I see no real reason to believe that would change elsewhere. Gillingham and Orient's crowds are a bit bigger than ours but still low by Superleague standards, and I'm not sure people in those communities will pay to watch a second local team, or that those who don't already watch those teams will watch our team.
I also think, in an era when simply avoiding bottom place in the table doesn't guarantee you staying in the league, it would be dangerous to move to a lower quality ground when so many of our rivals are significantly upgrading or building new grounds. It just sends out all the wrong messages to me. It says "we're hanging in there as best we can" rather than making us look genuinely ambitous or dynamic.

| I hate the Stoop, never liked it don't think I ever will. well maybe if they turned the house lights down post match it would make the place feel less soulless and clinical, anyway, to me its never felt like home.
That said moving would be utterly ridiculous.
The only reason the club should ever consider moving is if we're kicked out - we might be completely unwanted there who knows
Or if we own/part own our new ground.

This time around I have not enjoyed the experience at all, the word soulless is completely right.
I wish we all know the full reasons for leaving, I just hope that the club just do not want to renew the agreement and any move is temporary until we may part own our new ground & home, as I doubt we will ever be in the position to own our own.
It's completely wrong if the club continue to hold out until the home game to make a full honest statement.

| Yes but imagine The Stoop if we were a team like (say) Warrington. The place would be buzzing before and after the game (if Darth could get the lights dimmed)
The Stoop was great when we were still optimistic about the new regime and the chances of getting in the play-offs.
The last few years we've had, anywhere would be like a funeral parlour!
PS Believe me, it's a great place when you are watching a consistently successful team! Go Quins...

| Still awaiting a real source for this story after more than 20 pages on here, other than JonB95's opening reference to a story in The Sun.
I suspect that the real source is this very thread.

It was on the Sky Sports site too. I doubt they would post it without research.
The big mystery is the silence form the club, but then again maybe not.

| So why the silence?
1. Bureaucratic inertia- they will tell us at the HKR game and not before
2. It is Gillingham, they are scared and they revert to (1)
3. They are still negotiating and have their fingers crossed
4. They don't give a toss
5. It is the Olympic stadium and they can't announce until after the Paralympics

Correct me if I'm wrong, But I believe that their Tony Rea story quoted "Sky sources" widely believed to be Stevo. Their Gillingham report did not quote any source.
The only journo who seems to have done any worthwhile investigation is Ian Ramsdale, reporting on twitter. This is what he reported at lunchtime today: "Gillingham is one of many options. The one the press picked up on. It is being considered, along with others."
Ramsdale or The Sun? I know which I'm more likely to believe.
EDIT, just found this from him: "In regards to #LondonBroncos "home" for 2013: nothing's been decided, options are being considered. More on my BBC programme tomorrow 9pm "

| Oh dear, they were discussing our move to Gillingham on SL Cackchat and I'm afraid that Stevo made it sound like it's a done deal.
He said the rent Quins are asking for is astronomical.
Can you believe, Stevo and Andy Wilson are in support of such a move....what planet are they on?
TBF, the hideous Rod Spud thinks we should stay in London (but that may be disengenous as Stevo said Spud hasn't got any time for our club).
Make of it what you will, but it's not looking good for the future of SL in London.

| Unfortunately, I think Stevo's opinion probably carries weight with DH and regretfully, I have no confidence in the formers judgement.
Really, as good a friend as Stevo has been to London all these years, I'm afraid I think he is pretty clueless. A good rugby player he was, but I wouldn't trust him to make a good call on anything other than selecting a fine red wine.

This is DH preparing the club for life in the lower divisions......there can be no other sane explanation....well, none I can think of anyway.

| God that back chat got me depressed. I usedto think Andy Wilson was OK but after that!!! I think he was at Friday Night Lights last year if he is this year I will give him a piece of my mind.
And of course it was Wires weakened team on that (and the Super League show). Nothing about who we were missing and the emergence of the London Yoof.

| Seems odd to me that a club can apply for a licence and not have its ground secured for the period. Some of the scoring is based on the ground and location.

After the drawn out scenario at Bradford, the RFL are hardly in a position to question anyone else about their suitability for a 3 year period of Licencing...

Stevo's gems included:
"Twickenham is a snobbish area" I suppose anywhere sout of Watford's snobby as far as he's concerned
"They didn't get the locals interested".......pray tell Steveo, when did they try?
"Twickenham isn't interested in RL"...and they know this because they asked.....like f**k they did!
"They can attract locals at Gillingham".....how, buy asking the 300 ST's they have left to bring a mate and get 10% of a shirt that won't be ready by round 18? Maybe some 20/20 at hald time will do the trick.
"They can tap into the Medway Dragons"......WHAT THE F**k
"I haven't seen Rhinos in Leeds or Bulls in Bradford, so of course London Broncos can move to Gillingham and be called London"
Sorry.....but the reasons that Stevo gave on chatback were insane........but they point to what some of us have known for a while now, St David of Swinton is an RL Legend and a Honorary Cockney, but he knows nothing about running a professional sports club.........move, fail.......move, fail.......move, fail..........
