This is a common mistake that companies make. They assume that the role will attract thousands of overqualified candidates......it generally doesn't.
The sporting recruitment company used should obviously do more than place an advert in the Telegraph, Times and Guardian...they should be "headhunting"...as it would seem the company used By Surrey Sports Park were.
Many Many Many moons ago I was headhuunted (not in the way some on here would like). At the time I was happy in my job, but somewhat flattered by the attention. I went to the interview, changed jobs and my life changed beyond all recognition. Sometimes, ideal candidates don't know they are ideal candidates.....this is where companies like Sporting Appointments should be earning their commissions....
they state on their linked in page:
"We provide a targeted recruitment service to identify specialist candidates for the varied recruitment needs of leading sports teams, governing bodies, sporting brands and sponsorship agencies."
Let's see how they do this time.....intersting that although the head honcho is stated as being a director of a London Football Club...you have to dig a little deeper to find out it's Millwall FC

| Quote ="jbuzza"You are the Stuart Baggs of RLFANS.'"
I had to google Mr Baggs...and the major difference between me and him is that I have seen it, done it and been awarded the t-shirt.......and I will say is that I put up or shut up...have never lied on a CV or claimed anything that wasn't my own..including admiitting my mistakes. Furthermore, if that barrow boy wannabe accepted as a tory told me what he apparently did to Mr Baggs...I'd have laid him out...ermin and all!
jbuzza......I am what I am...take it or ignore it, but as time goes by, I am being proven correct more and more.
I suggested ways to attract fans that would have cost nothing, or at very worst a couple of grand....but you AGAIN throw insults at me.....because you like other on here are prepared to take the management and business dross served up by the club in expectation that Ruperts lot want us in SL. You, like others on here, would be off sharpish if quins were ejected.......whilst I will support this club until either it is no more, or I pop me' cloggs!
Still say John Wells, supported by a decent team would be better than Paul Blanchard...or whatever the company who we used last time (guesses on a post card) can find.
But hey...it's David Hughes toy and he'll do it his way. More's the pity the RFL/BskyB don't just buy us and be done with it......we will go nowhere with the current Chairman controlling all aspects of the business...as has been proven already
I will say it AGAIN......thank you Mr Hughes..here's your life membership and corporate box tickets...now use them as you will, but either stop ignoring the facts as they are or let someone else take control.
....there are thousands of RL fans in London....expat norveners, expat crims and kiwis and many interested people.....FIND THEM....stop f()cking wasting money on everything else and get these people to the stoop.
50 staff in the advert...21 playing staff......10 community? Where the hell are the other 19? Trim the fat.....start from the top and cut down....reward success, penalise failure........these are business tactics that work.
2000-2010.... 1.4% LESS FANS OVER 11 YEARS........That's not a business...it's a hobby.

| Jon Wells for some job at Quins campaign has officially started, but I'm not sure he would be any better than someone actually from that job area. TBH Jon Wells would be a waste of £75k plus bennies, not sure is qualified to be anything but the clubs lawyer and a bit of good noise within the rugby league community.

I applied to a commercial post being sought by Sporting Appointments about a year ago, for which I had all the relevant "job experience" they were asking for, but was told straight off that they dont put forward candidates to employers without relevant industry (i.e. sports) experience.
Like you say, they should be seeking candidates from outside the industry who can bring something new to the party.

I once worked in a sports council briefly (I was on my way out of the civil service and fancied a quick sojourn somewhere very different first). I was imediately aware that I had entered a very small, closed world. Nearly everybody in the sports councils, or indeed in the governing bodies I met, had started as a development officer, or national squad member of their particular sport. Then they moved up their sport's ladder, before jumping on what was effectively a merry-go-round of different sports at club and governing body level, where they just swapped places occasionally. For many of them, their only qualification for any job, whether it was marketing, youth development, high performance, facilities or whatever, was that they used to be handy with a bat or a ball or fairly fast. There were some people who were clearly just hobbyists - the sort of people you find on the committee of any amateur RL club, who were in full-time jobs running entire sports or clubs with multi-million pound budgets. It was astonishing to see.
I'm not saying that all these people were deadbeats, and that you can't possibly be a decent marketeer or chief exec if you only ever worked in sports admin, but it seemed a very shallow pool to be fishing in. Nevertheless, we do have to accept that most sports organisations have very limited budgets, and so they're always going to rely on trying to find the diamond who can do a good job and is willing to do so for not very much, rather than being able to shell out for the top professional with experience elsewhere.
Personally, I've always thought that something like marketing should be entirely outsourced to a marketing company who get paid by results. Give them a budget to work with, and they get a proportion of the gate fee for each fan over last year's average. That's focus their minds a bit.

| Bring back Nic Cartwright. Did a solid job during the transition from Broncs to Quins. He loved the club brought much needed energy and drive and went the extra mile.
Was one of our best, but I don't think there is much chance of Nick coming back.
Failing that I would bring Mark Evans in a part time capacity to start up some initiatives and get this ball rolling again, but continue to look for the right person and transition him/her into the job!!!

Nick Cartwright is in the US of A I believe.....Nick Evans is out of our league...even part time.
Biggest mistake we ever made was employing PBlanchard......you never get a second chance to make a first impression and as it is, in 5 years we have had 2 CEO's, a drop in fans and a bottom half team.....the Union won't be impressed (apart from the cheques they get from DH )

It took over 12 months to "find" Blanchard and even then, he was only appointed as GM not Chief Executive. This would point to any number of possibilities, such as DH wanting a Yes man....a lack of quality applications or just nobody prepeared to do the amount of work required....
Point is, does the club need a CEO? Last time, the position was advertised with a 75k base + benefits....would this money be better spent "elsewhere"?
John Wells anyone?'"
So...here we are 38 months later and so far up the brown creek without a paddle as even the most pessimistic amongst us would have dared to guess. MacKay is leaving us for pastures new and DH, should he deem one necessary, will be on the look-out for a new CEO.
WILL HE MAKE THE SAME MISTAKES AGAIN????
