| So the club were going to announce this at the HKA game and then run out of town?
I do hope this is not the strategy, because if it is true, I am not sure I have any respect left for DH or GM. As the old song says " Say it ain't so, Joe, say it ain't so.

Not overly sure when these halcyon days of mass London supporters on tinterweb were, Big G may remember better than I but even back in Steve Morris's days it was a pretty small % of the overall whole.

Yeah...they adhered to the swear filter policy
Mate, it wasn't my intention to put a downer on anything.......I called it as I saw it, with Gus looking like a rabbit in the headlights, saying it was Orient, Gillingham, Brentford or the stoop and that we may not have a new coach to announce by Nov 1st and the stevo confirming that it was Orient of Gillingham and the coach would be named in the next 7 days.....since then, the media have picked up the story and it is now widly reported that Gillingham it is....fact is that Griffin Park, Priestfield and Matchroom do not have big enough pitches for Pro RL........there were a few hair rasing moments at GP if I recall.....very short in-goal area.
As it is, there are a few posters who don't post here any more and it's easy for peole like jaybs to put that down to negativity of certain posters, but after a shot of realism, even he/she would have to admit that the negativity on here this season pales into insignificance when you see some of the comments on facebook over the year.....and we have over 5,000 FANS on there ...5,000 fans....makes me chuckle every time.

It's so easy for you to sit thousands of miles away and know everything? it is bad enough being 250 miles away from the club, but then again London is completely different the wide area fans travel from, some even longer journeys than myself and not a quarter of the distance.
Again it is easy to mock Facebook, but on match days or the day after you get posters using their iphones, I do at the match and while it may not be 5,000 it is more that tweet regular here at times.
Twitter last night people were re-tweeting "Broncos to Stay in London" message, that seemed to attract more than here on our forum, why is it these people don't want to post here? but are willing to do regular on Facebook and Twitter? there must be a reason and you in marketing know it is a problem!
As I just said on another thread the "Broncos to Stay in London" campaign is a much better idea that to dictate to an owner or club we will only ever accept one ground.

| You are quite right Gutters there was a very narrow in goal area at Brentford and I believe we were both at the match when one of our players suffered a nasty head injury when he crashed into the hoarding there. Could see something similar happening at Gillingham.

| Assuming the club are being rational, and I grant you that is quite a big assumption, this smacks of a negotiating tactic to try and get a better deal from other potential grounds.

| So are we actually gonna do anything about this? T-shirts, banners, etc? Y'know, like normal supporters would do. Or are we just gonna leave the Stoop with a whimper?
Still don't see why Barnet's new ground wouldn't suit us ideally if we have to move. Could make the pitch big enough for one thing and both clubs could do with each other tbh.

My question entirely. Will London's SL career go out with a whimper or a bang!
You get what you fight for in the end.......................

That was Zeb (sp?) Luisi and it was a concrete wall that he hit. Amazes me that that was the only such incident.

| AFC Wimbledon are trying to buy the greyhound stadium and build a new home there. The site's big enough for a 12k stadium and some flats to help pay for it. The biggest problem they face is that the current owners (GRA via an investment firm) are considering demolishing the old stadium and building flats. Just thought I'd throw that in there.

This forum has always been lightly populated...and I have already said, if you want to see real negativity, visit facebook. As for mocking the FB 5,000 fans....the figure doubled overnight this year.....what would you want me to do...applaud them?

I have been on the forum since 2005 and I don't remember it always being lightly populated, I remember parents of some of the younger players posting then.
Was this the first original Broncos forum?

Nah.
Steve Morris ran the London Broncos Internet Forum from around 1995-1999, Mike Roberts and I took it over as the Forum II late '99 [helped big time by Sadfish who went on to start rlfans and when rivals could not buy us [we were so principled they persuaded Al to move the printed London Calling over to the internet on the rivals network, at which time we moved from angelfire servers to become one of the first forums on Rlfans, rivals then died a death and this became the only game in town, and honestly, there have never really been that many people posting over all those years, loads of lurkers though.'"
Cheers Homer! I remember now the angelfire servers well, it is so easy to think that times were better in the past, especially when you feel times are not as good, can be the same the argument with past players and comparing them with now.

| Back on topic, the only media outlets carrying this now appear to be Skytext and Sporting Life, both reports being left over from yesterday and slipping rapidly down the list - the BBC website hasn't mentioned it and they're carrying the Tony Rea story. I'm wondering if this was a floater to see what the reaction would be, and the club's now in rapid retreat.

Pretty standard tactic. Put out plans to build a highway through a village and then they won't object too much when you build a by-pass instead. You'll be going to Leyton.

| I really don't understand why you'd leave the Stoop to be honest. It's a great ground and is one of the main selling points of a Broncos match - being able to mix with the players, have a chat with the Sky presenter, the band playing etc. all make it a different experience than other RL grounds. Granted, some of that is because the crowds are smaller, but you will lose this if you go to Brisbane Rd or Gillingham.
Plus Leyton and Gillingham are dumps.
The issue is lack of / poor marketing allied to a poor team.
I came to the Widnes game and as we were walking up I heard a lady talking to her friend (clearly locals) saying "oh it's London Broncos they're going to watch them lose again"! So there's definitely some local awareness!

Londoners won't watch a losing team, there are far too many alternatives. Our hard core are largely masochists who fear the imminent demise of the team if they give up. Unlike the football sides we do not have a hundred years of loyalty behind us that would ensure survival come what may. It never ceases to amaze me that we have lasted 32 years to be honest. The holy grail of a winning side that pays its way on its own ground may have to wait a little longer.
