| Its a sad state of affairs if true.
Maybe its a case of the Chairman having to take this step to keep
the game going, and that its purely due to finance.
If thats the case I hope it works out for him as he deserves some
return for his investment.
Unfortunately I wont be part of it.
Happily run to a travel card and a number of hours travelling, but not
to Gillingham.

Why else is David Hughes seemingly on a mission to eradicate the already near non-existent fanbase?

| What's with letting Sky announce the move before having the decency to tell us, the long suffering fans of this club?
Oh and btw, what happened to the fans forum that we were promised?

| This reminds me of the injured racehorse at the racetrack. They take it somewhere quiet to be put down so that no one will notice. The silence of the club is once again deafening. Either admit the Sky story is true or deny it. Simples.

| So hot on the heels of the Leeds/Hunslet agreement we can also expect to hear that we have been twinned with the Medway Dragons!!!
What an F`in crackpot idea to move to the Medway towns (and it is easy for me to get to)....same old London, if people do not just `turn up`, chuck the towel in and go somewhere else hoping to get lucky.
The Stoop is a fantastic ground with great facilities....you never appreciate what you have until it`s gone and I think the club are really going to regret this decision.
I presume (ho, ho) that Gillingham FC are happy to rip out some of the existing seating in order to accommodate the right size pitch. Also look forward to having to go `on the road` again mid-season when the football club kick us out for 6-8 weeks to re-seed their precious turf.
Bonkers....absolutely friggin bonkers. I sometimes wonder how DH made his money, because a lot of his thinking is beyond comprehension.

At last someone who is willing to accept reality, many of the small amount that post here regularly may think the stoop is the Best thing since sliced bread, but if it does not all add up and we did have discussions with the landlords, then what other options are left to the Club? I'm not convinced Kent will work, is it short term? a firm announcement now needs to be made without delay.
Already many are coming out saying (threaten) they will not attend if it is now as Sky claim Kent next season, then the "Select 35" on this Forum may go down to single numbers, but then again it may increase greatly and go back to what it used to be like here, we can only wait and see!

| Yes Sticksy...they will regret it when 3 men and a dog turn-up.
They should have at least have had the decency to tell us (preferably during a fans forum) before letting it be announced in the media.

| Jaybs, whilst the Stoop may not be an economical decision, there has to be a better option than Gillingham!
Even Oxford wouldn't raise as many objections I would wager

| We are just beginning to drip feed into the first team the youngsters that have been developed through the youth set up.......what the hell is such a move going to do to our youngters.....we will not just loose existing fans, we will also likely loose promising players.
Speak to any of the away fans that visit the Stoop and they will always say how much they enjoy the visit, amenities, entertainment etc..........what`s Gillingham got, a small basement like bar which serves horrible beer....err and thats it.
What with the added travel cost for both existing LB supporters and the away support, LB better have some bloody good marketing plans and research to suggest that this is where we can make a go of it.

| jaybs has a valid point.
An open question what happens when DH runs out of money and we are still at the Stoop with no financial backers coming in to bail us out? Maybe there is a viable alternative plan to secure the future of SL in the south and until the club makes a firm announcement it is only a rumour.

Wherever we are there will be a problem if DH ceases to back the club and there is no alternative funding.
Unless it is being suggested that a football club is actually a philanthropic charity given to renting its ground out for free.

| If it's a purely financial decision, then most of us will see the sense of it (whether or not we can attend games).
It's all just speculation at the moment but I do think the long-suffering faithful should have been told before the media.

| I think they must have a choice between Orient and Gillingham and the cost beteen the two must be marginal.
I cannot see any way Gillingham is better. We will get more fans at Orient as we will retain most!? of our fanbase whereas we will lose many at Gillingham as its so far away.
That will be a huge loss in income. There is no guarantee that the curious local who came to the OTR game will return for all the home games.
Away support will i think be maintained at Orient but could fall at Gillingham i think = loss of income.
If this eventual move to Wimbledon has legs then retaining the west side fan base has to be of prime importance for the future.
I wish i had the facts that the club has in front of them which caused them to make this choice - if it really is true.

It is if you're deliberately looking to wind down the business.
I'm starting to think David Hughes is secretly gutted the second coming of Tony Rea has been a success.

Would agree with the Orient since it was a good noise that day and retains the london link, even better to stay put.

| Ian Ramsdale has posted a statement from Gills chairman Paul Scally on Twitter
Quote Our position is that we hosted a game in May, which everyone enjoyed, and that it has been a target of the Chairman for some years to bring porofessional rugby to Kent.
To that effect he has had talks over the past few years with a number of Professional Rugby Clubs, but as yet he has been unable to achieve his goals in that regard.'"
