| I find those reports somewhat surprising/misleading considering that RL is among the most watched sports in the weekly Satellite viewing statistics on a frequent basis, often with wrestling behind it.

| Dave,
Satellite viewing figures on a weekly basis may sometimes seem high, but that does not mean it transmits into being in the
Top 100 Sports Viewing Figures for 2009, that is Fact. You seem perhaps to feel what I say are words of gloom, no, I am just being constructive from my media background. Add to that the way the media print is just ignoring our game, we can't afford to put our heads in the sand. A lot of the problems come down to the small time parochial thinking, that is why I supported Fulham from day one and stuck with it.
Perhaps we need a Sullivan and Gold to join David Hughes, The Hammers a club I have supported since I was six, these two guys were not my first choice, but so far I am impressed with the way they have been totally honest, time will tell though.

| A lot of what you say jaybs is true. When the SL season is up and running on any friday night you go onto any of the other local news for up north via the satellite, they will have some sort of report on games for that weekend even if just a quick mention that so and so are playing at home and time. but you get local news in London and nothing, even half the time in London they wont even do any sport.
As for Sky who pump money into sport, your right they never seen to push it like RU or Football. We have all seen the adds for other sports where they have used their commentators in other jobs making a mess of things (i.e.RU guys trying to do house imporvements), but i have not seen one like that for RL.. And while im on it about Sky, has anyone else noticed when they do the sports news nearly 9times out 10 when its getting the RL news they go for a break. Think i did catch a quick 2 mins of SL launch in London might it might have been a dream.

| I'll throw another media angle in; The Super League show is shown only in certain regions. Surely in this time when the BBC have been told to take a few cost-cutting measures it makes sense to have the readily available and very easy to view. when compared to the likes of union and cricket (of which I am a fan of both) on at a decent hour and available to the whole of Great Britain.

| I have been quite vocal in my musings about Mr Hughes...ie, lack of funds for marketing etc...but I will say this, if we ever own our own ground, the David Hughes Stand would be a shoo in!
As fr IL, he stood by his word and pumped cash in even after he bought the pies.......and let's face it, there's hardly a line of potential investors knocking on the door.

gutterfax,
Are you certain you claim is fully correct? if so would it not be breaking the rules agreed to with the RFL, and it does not seem consistent with the claims from David Hughes.

Thats not what Hughsey is saying in the league express-He says he has paid 100% over the last 12 months to the tune of 1.5 Million although only having 35% of the shares
He also says he will keep paying whilst his heart is beating-Great man-Mr London RL

Indeed, which would make it quite ironic that there doing some sort of 'Quins special' this sunday.

It will be on, but I think at 3 in the morning or something like that. Clearly RL fans in the south are clubbers/unemployed/insomniacs in the BBC's eyes.
But yes, it's on Iplayer, and sice I can't afford SKY, it tends to be my only way to get my RL fix.

Like you, I was under the impression that he had to dispose of his shareholding under RFL rules, and I can't work out why he hasn't - no-one who invests in a sports club can really expect to get their money back!

I remember something similar at the time, but also I thought the ruling from the RFL said he could have not have a financial input and the shares had to be "disposed" of within two years? as the TV adverts say "investments can go up and down"

| DH comments in the LE seemed to contain some frustrations- My take on it was that Hughsey didn't believe IL was doing enough to get rid of his 65% holding leaving DH to carry the can. He also goes on to mention the need to increase crowds due to the RFL's warnings. He said there is a big focus to achieve improved numbers

That would certainly make more sense given DH's comments and apparent tone in the article.
Benn trying to dig around to find what was actually said when IL purchased Wigan and can only really find this
www.independent.co.uk/sport/gene ... 95273.html
However this quote is interesting, wonder what it means?
Quote What is less easy to predict is what now happens to Harlequins. Lenagan was the latest in a line of benefactors who have helped to keep the loss-making London club going, but he is not allowed, because of potential conflicts of interest, to continue to run it. He would, he said, maintain "a passive financial interest" until he could divest himself of his shares.'"

Well if we see anyone from the BBC or even Harry himself maybe we can ask what they think of it been showen at that ungodly hour of 4.45am. Bet your still get the same answer of you can watch it on iplayer. I just wish they would understand that showing it down south at the same time as up north (i.e 1pm) could maybe help out. How many people at that time of day are just flicking channels looking for something to watch as they bored with repeats of Hello Hello ( i know i am ).
Noticed it has a facebook page now so i joined that and asked the same question, wont expect an answer.

The bold part of the quote could even keep the Chilcott Inquiry Team chewing over for a few days. LOL

| I suspect all this means is IL is still holding shares but making no contribution to financing the club. DH was expecting IL to find someone to fill his role when he jumped ship to Wigan so that it would not all fall on his shoulders yet again.

I thought that IL wa going to continue to pump cash into the club for 3 years after he bought Wigan....at which stage he was required to either offload his shares or at the very least take his "passive" role...ie, no more investment. This, if correct, would mean that 2009 was the first year that QRL received no money from IL and therefore, DH would have been our sole benefactor..
Either way, QRL is not a viable investment at present. If PB/DH and the team can add 1,500 to the gates this year and Mac can get us a play-off or CC semi or better, that may change, but as it is, it would take a massive leap of faith for anyone to invest the £10,000,000 I believe it would take to turn the BUSINESS around over 5 years.

Yes this is confirmed in the article, David Hughes says "Ian was supposed to have made all reasonable endeavours after taking over at Wigan to shed his shares within two years..." He goes on to say " I am funding the club 100% now, technically speaking Ian still owns 65% of the club but he isn't allowed to manage it or be involved day to day so it is an anomaly"
Doesn't sound like IL has tried very hard, but to be fair to him there probably aren't that many people interested. He should have had a stand at the HAC last friday.
I think when we own our own ground we shouldn't just name a stand after him, I think we should name it the David Hughes Stadium, or go fo the Wigan-esque DH Stadium
