Can't be bothered reading and replying to the threads in detail. I have seen a fair few comments with regards to our coach but today has changed my opinion massively. McDermott can stay. As I was saying to Paddock Punter after the game, Wayne Bennett could coach the current squad and would do no better. I could coach the side and get the same out of them. If you really think the problem lies with our coach then you are a dilusional idiot who cannot see the real issues.



WTF are we, a soccer side? Blaming the coach when the real issue lies with our PATHETIC group of players? I will actually defend Brian McDermott all day long. It is NOT his fault. And as for the message sent to me on FB from 12000 miles away, absolutely do one. You really have no idea.

It's interesting, I was one of a select band on here that wanted to keep Tony Rea coach, AGES ago (we all had our little avatars too). We eventually got our wish to an extent, and it was vindicated. I am FULLY behind McDermott. I ask this question once more, do people really think a coach will change our affairs? Our club is screwed.

I don't have an answer when you say who should replace mac, but let's face it, 22 out of 24 games lost after the start we had in 2009 points to something other than just crap players.

I think Rea was smarter with the players he recruited and convinced to come and play for the club. I think other clubs do better recruitment as well.



Baring in mind no one knows how much he has had to work with (which is a significant factor), I still have some problems with McDermott's recruitment (over his tenure, not just this year) Why is cap money spent (every season) on who either don't want to play for the club or can't (Haumono, Faumauina, Villasanti, Faafili, Robinson, Wells, James)? I l know every club has these but we've had more than our fair share.



At the end of the day McDermott selects the team, the loan signings and decides how to spend the 1 point whatever million salary cap money. So this is the team he's happy with and happy to defend week after week.

I looked for the first time ever at the coaching staff's profile on the club website. What do people think about the assistants?

Both Powel and Tawhai could probably do a caretakers job until the end of the season if need be IMO. Either way, we have 2 quota places available and they would need to be filled with fresh faces if any real changes were going to work

There are coaches in the NSW Cup comp (reserve grade) who are far, far more qualified than our assistants. I even spoke to our oppositions' (the Bulldogs) one over here walking to the sheds at half time, this weekend. You may have heard of him.



Jimmy Dymock. He's also the assistant coach of first grade.

I never called for TR to go, I was always in the "he worked miracles and was a great club man" camp

Mac - Started off thinking dropping him was a knee jerk reaction and was pretty much in full agreement to what listy is posting above.



Except today.

1) Why did Williams not come on the pitch -

was he injured in warm up? even then they could have picked the 18th man so prob not.

He couldnt have been worse than what was on the pitch and if the coach has no faith in him, why pick him.

If nothing he could give someone a rest.

We only had one game over the weekend so should have been fresh - using our bench properly would have pushed this advantage, instead we go with only three subs.



2) Tactics - everybody could see Randall - who this time last year was being talked up as potential MOS material - had a dreadful game. He should have been brought off for his own sake, not played out of position to continue to make more errors,



3) Melling being played out of position - hell even the club sent out a message saying he didnt like it.

If melling is deemed a good enough for the first team - and when he had confidence was pushing to rep honours, why was the decision made to spend precious salary cap on BJB (good as he's been) in an area that didnt really need addressing.



4) backwards progress made by players - Clubb and LMS were in the national picture a couple of years ago so someone out there thought they had talent. THey have gone so far backwards in the last year that its only our thin squad that's seeing them stay in our team. - Although LMS looked sharper today. Clubb had a game to forget.



All of these are directly attributable to a coach - players missing tackles/throwing the ball away/not catching it/kicking it out on the full/knocking on are the players fault, but we can make improvements to the above instantly with new direction at the helm. It could even boost the confidence of the players which in turn could improve the missed tackes etc.



Is changing the coach the right answer? Something needs to change. P24 W2 L22 is an appallingly embarassing record and the long term damage to players confidence from taking beating after beating is ruining any benefit they are making from "getting blooded"

Dave, I strongly disagree with you, we do not have a strong enough squad to compete, we have not used what little funds we have to bring in players wisely, but the Coach carries the can, all the rubbish he has said after virtually every game, to think he was interviewed for the England post, is beyond belief.

I think a coach can only say the same thing so many time-What he has said hasn't worked. His philosophy appears to be, play a simple, error free, low risk game. He has brought no talented players into the club(talented in natural skill ? Dorn) whilst letting plenty go.

The pack is to small and gets dominated in the contact-both attack and defence- the knock on effect of this is Randall plays poorly..........



I believe he should go. My reasons are he doesnt appear to have the rugby intellect that is required at the top level. A new coach will shake it up and bring in new ideas.



Our salary cap is comparable to Hudds, Cas, Wakey- It beggars belief, accepting you pay more down south.

What do you expect him to say after the games? Get constantly depressed?



Do you believe that Wayne Bennett would have us in the Top 8 under the same constraints?

Dave, I'm sorry but Mac has had the chance, and been given a long run, if he got constantly depressed it would at least show something at least! not every player is a coach and perhaps that is the case with Mac, perhaps just a good assistant.



Wayne Bennett with our current squad, no we may not be winning lots more games but the players may have more of a clue and enthusiasm.

Wayne Bennett would never have put this squad together in the first place. That's why BM has to go, whatever the sie of his playing budget (and we're told it's not far off the maximum) he has spent it atrociously.

Now there's a thought - the thought, I suspect, being 'in our dreams.'
