| From the Quins site......
Harlequins last met Warrington on the final day of the 2009 season and McDermott believes both sides have changed a great deal since then.
"With a full preseason under Tony Smith and a further year under James Lowes, Warrington are going to be an improved team.
"This is only our second game of the season and we are very much still building and working on our systems of play."
WTF? If he is this defeatist BEFORE the game, what must his team-talk be like? 12 months ago, we were going to win it, this year he has asked for 10 games before Judgment is made and now sent a young squad into battle at the home of the CC holders with that little gem......
Coaching skills (or lack of them) aside.........maybe Mac should spend more time telling the players that they can win the title and less time looking for excuses BEFORE THE GAME!
Jesus wept....I am staring to agree with Listy.

| He is digging his own grave with Bollox like that.
Sorry, but even if Wire were on fire, getting nilled is a disgrace and the buck stops with the players and the coach who trains/mentors/picks them to represent the club.
Having not seen the game, I find it hard to comment or blame individual players, but the utter tripe he comes out with makes it very easy to point the finger at him.
If only his game plan/System was as cryptic as his after match comments then some teams might not find it so hard to beat us

Right. And it's seen as not acceptable for a coach to blame a poor (or even abysmal) performance on injuries. But that doesn't excuse the nonsense he's reported as having spouted.
As things appear to be at the club, who would be willing to take on the job if BM walked or was pushed? Any incoming coach of any quality would insist on recruitment of another few quality players. If DH couldn't guarantee that, no new coach would come, except for a complete fool. Dan Staines anybody

OK.......that explains 2 losses from our current run.....and I accept that it is tough on him, but if we continue to make excuses for him until Purdo/Dorn come back, we will already be nearing the 10 game target he set himself. What then? Do we start looking for a coach to try to get us off the bottom of the table? Losing is a habit and a bad one at that and we have become very used to losing. Bradford and Celtic are our only two wins since May last year....that is unacceptable from a professional club...in any sport.
I can allow for injuries, but the tripe he comes out with is unacceptable...
By his own admission he had no clue as to what went wrong last year and now he is saying he needs more time to get the players ready for the season? All smoke and Mirrors from a likeable bloke who just seems to be way out of his depth coaching in Superleague.
I would love to be proved wrong and to see Catalans put to the sword, but somehow, I just can't see it. Then it's away to Hull and Leeds so 5 games in and 0 points with only Salford and Crusaders offering any chance of points before 10 games..........and both of them will fancy their chances against us.
Sorry, but he has to go or he needs an assistant and pretty sharpish too!

| Im making no excuses for a shocker of a performance
Lets do a few comparisons
Morley, Monaghan, Carvell v Williams, Randall(Shocker of a game again) Wilkes - Starting front rows
Briers, Myler v Orr, Gale
Bench- Solomona, Higham....... v Bolger, Kaye, James
Anderson brothers, Westwood v Couger, Esders, ex wakey player!!.......
Atkins, Eng Centre, King(Wing), v Clubby, Howell
It was men against boys
Warrington must have loaded 30 times in the game- There was no stopping them.
It was a long afternoon
It was interesting watching the team at the end. They got into huddle with Mcdermott about 30 metres away near the tunnel- The team then finished there chat and didnt know what to do next ie whether he was going to talk to them or whether they should go down the tunnel-as it was Mac just looked at them in disgust as they walked past-No leadership.

But we did have Matt James and Oli Wilkes playing who were specifically singled out for having “a really good understanding of what we're trying to achieve both offensively and defensively".
Then there was Luke Gale, who "is one of a group of young players that want to represent London Rugby League".
And finally who can forget Luke Williamson, who had been "working hard on offensive plays to give us the full package".

s oif you lot get yr way we will have no Purdo, karl t, ward, bishop, wells, LMS and no coach!! how on earth is that going to improve the lot at the mo
People complain when the coach says nothing
If he had come out and said "yep we were e" it would have been correct but he would have got slated for that.
We do not have a squad that is going to be competative week in week out when at full strength, so how the hell are we meant to be competative when we have 5/6 first line players out!!!
McD can only work with what he has got, and i have said it before at the mo its bare bones!! rubbish for the start of the season, but obviously there is no money to recruit, so lets accept we are gonna struggle this year, lets look forward to the occaisional bright moments that WILL happen
and for those that want the coach to go, replace him with who?? come on lets have some names

Oh, I don't know.
Shame Eric Morcombe is dead...he's have enjoyed the musings of Mac.
The SQUAD is put together to cover the ENTIRE SEASON where you will have INJURIES. Mac has had this lot since November, back in training and working as a group. How complex a plan/system has he got?
As for having loads out at the start of the season....something is VERY WRONG with the pre-season set up at QRL......very wrong.
I am no RL expert (no sherlock) but I know when something isn't right within a squad.......and something isn't right with this lot!....maybe that's why the club haven't released a new shirt for 2010....we have to put up with the same dross from 2009....it all makes sense now

| Think the blame lies not with the team, the coach BUT with the useless Board. The seem quite unable to bring in any new investors and am coming to believe that they really have little in any real knowledge or understanding of either Rugby League or of the need for effective marketing, player recruitment and even for the need to keep good relations with supporters.
Hence after 29 years have not renewed my season ticket will only visit to watch games with visiting teams that I used to support in the 35 years prior to 1980 etc
I think that most people know my views of the Harlequins name and the location of the Stoop as a Rugby League ground well enough. Both have failed and can only result in the Club losing it's franchise in the next renewal round if we do not go into administration before then.

Ok here's a name, ideal world I know and little expectation of getting him but Terry Matterson cos he's done well at Cas and he's ex- London so he knows full well how difficult it is outside the heartlands. Real world...... how about a hungry Aussie currently acting as assistant at an NRL club and looking to make a name for himself , someone not unlike Nathan Brown at Hudds.

Not entirely sure how the coach can escape any criticism, if you are then targetting the board? DH is on record as saying how he is fed up with IL not having done much with his shares in the past 2 years, however whether that means anybody has been willing to take them up is another matter, you cannot sell what nobody want's to buy.
What does concern me [and near on everybody else is the "boards" non decision in regards to the situation at the end of last season about the coaching staff and how with only minor changes to playing staff, the situation from last May onwards was going to somehow cure itself without any alteration to the coaching set up. Whatever other failings Tony Rea was deemed to have, taking the hard decisions about coaches [Staines, Monie was not one he shirked, and the point of no return for BM had in my view been reached when he admitted he did not know what was wrong.
A new coach coming in close season would have stood a slightly better chance of getting different players and systems in place for the start of this season, whereas now, even changing the coach will still mean he has to deal with the playing staff he has in order to turn things around [not however something that other new coaches at other clubs have not managed before
Quote ="stormingbronco"Hence after 29 years have not renewed my season ticket will only visit to watch games with visiting teams that I used to support in the 35 years prior to 1980 etc'"

This bit is pointless, we are where we are, and any move again now would certainly kill what's left of the club.

yeah....coz we rocked the RL world as the Crusaders/Broncos
Don't start blaming the current situation on the name, the colours or where we play......remember, with an Aussie Coach and a few "star names" we went bust......the problem is that we have 1 benefactor who, as a result of being our only saviour, gets what he wants.......and like it or not, Mr Hughes (and previous backers) has shown no interest in Marketing the game to supporters, therefore we have low crowds and therefore we are not an attractive proposition to decent UK players and we can't afford Aussie Journeymen any more.
Said it since 2003 and I will say it again.......the club need to market the game all guns blazing.....then the crowds will come, the players will come and we can build on that.
As it stands, LMS is out of contract in 9 months.....do you think we are a viable proposition for him or will he head North (or farther south)?

| Unquestionable its difficult times Throwing the dummy is not the answer. It’s back to the walls and lets stick together time.
I suspect the team that went onto the field yesterday is probably the worst team (on paper) to enter a rugby pitch in the short history of super league. I’ve racked my brain on my way to work this morning and been thinking of a worse team-Workington, Salford, Halifax, Leigh and I can’t come up with one.
Next week will be a test. Cats lost to Wakey at the weekend, have Bosc missing and also 5 players arrested for fighting last night.
We hopefully will have LMS, Bishop and Ward back and hopefully Karl T.
We need to stand united and get behind the team. Sport is full of ups and downs.

| But McDermott has stopped short of deeming it a must-win encounter.
He added: “I do not accept that it is a game we cannot afford to lose.
“At this stage of the season all I care about is the team performance.
Sorry, but he has to either go, or at least keep these little gems to himself. Some have said that the players looked gutted after the game on Sunday...I wonder if they'll even bother trying this Sunday with motivation like that
