Pretty poor performance and very happy indeed with the 2 points, and not too concerned about how bad we were seeing as at was our first game of the season. We were bad, luckily Catalans were mediocre, most other sides would have put 50 points on us. Fitness looks to be a major issue, something we could never say when under Mac's tutelage.

Positives: Wilkes had a superb game. Dorn was solid at full back. Burnett looked decent. We defended relatively well. Discipline wasn't too bad.

Negatives: Kouparitsas looks like a woeful signing, and I can see why people were bagging him pre season. Clubb had an absolutely shocking game and looks to have put on even more weight and become even slower. Bailey was invisible. No creativity whatsoever and we never looked like scoring.

Delighted with the two points, if not neccesarily the manner in which they were won - call it 'gritty'!



Good points:

- Wilkes was outstanding
- Gale's tries were well taken and inventive
- Burnett and Bailey looked promising
- We kept the auld enemy scoreless for 75 minutes

Bad points:

- Kouparitsas (

)
- Looked knackered (but I'm sure that's normal at round 1 stage)
- Still a lack of creativity when we get into the oppo's 20m.

This will I'm sure be a big confidence boost for the guys, and hopefully gives them a bit of impetus to kick on. Our defence looks a damn sight better than last season at first glance anyway, although the Dragons were dreadful for large periods (Tony Gigot -

Flashes of quality from the likes of Clubb and Dorn but generally I thought the forwards outshone the backs. Still think on the 5th tackle we lose our cool, but hopefully that's something they work on.

Not at all, I agree with some of what you said, but you seem to highlight the negatives more than the positives.
A win is a win at this stage of the season.

Excellent defence, Wilkes was good, Bailey looked every bit a SL player, Gale was excellent in attack and defence, Melling was good. J O'c was very solid. A few too many dropped balls but we kept them out set after set after set which shows real heart, ability and organisation. Kouparitsas was ok if a little slow, Clubb was trying to do too much, he needs to stick at what he's good at. Running at the line with the ball in hand. Pleased overall, a positive start.

Was I watching a different Bailey today? He was anonymous IMO.

Decent defence, short of a few ideas going forward after an excellent opening 10 minutes. Lots of errors but same from Catalans - good to get 2 points from the opening fixture, shame we couldn't have nilled them! If we can keep the defence solid we may have a better season than last. Thought Dorn and Wilkes were good, Burnett wasn't bad either. Main worry is that we looked absolutely knackered in the 2nd half ! Was pleased to see it looked like the win really meant something to the players, they all looked really chuffed as they came over to us fans at the end.

Terrible game, but I think the way to look at it is that even if it was Catalans, for the last few years it's been very unusual for Quins to hold on to a 10-0 lead, or to hold on to a lead at half-time. The fact that they did suggests a little more mental toughness than previously. If it hadn't been Cats, then they may not have won, but they did. Wakey are looking very ropey, we can look at Salford and Crusaders tomorrow. If those four are no better than Quins, then we could be looking at 9th or 10th to finish. I think back in November most people here would have thought that was impossible.

You can only win one game at a time. That's one.

I thought your first 10 minutes was the best on show out of any team today, Catalans were unable to cope with the speed and style of play. Unfortunately after the injury to Sa the all momentum was lost and the rest of the game was pretty dire. I think there's a lot to build on though, you certainly looked a lot better than under McDermott and my estimations of the team have greatly risen after today's performance.

Positives:
Dorn, O'Callaghan, Gale, Wilkes, Ellis till he went off injured, Bailey in patches, Burnett in patches, Ward in patches, Lamont's enthusiasm and boots. Oh, and the result.


Negatives:
Clubb (hope he's got that out of his system), Howell, Kouparitsas as a dummy half, the playing surface, Catalans half-backs.

Worse game of Saturday and poor experience in a cold empty ground with no atmosphere for this game. We have got a win, looked better than the end of last year but Cats were awful.

Just how many from QRL and Cats, turned up 300 if lucky? Crowd for the weekend announced as 30k over the day.

Against teams with a bigger and more mobile pack plus a serious interest in actually winning, we could be in trouble. Having said that, it was a superb defensive display (going over 75 minutes without conceding a try must be some sort of record for us!) and Burnett looks like a decent signing. I suspect that the pay-offs may be beyond us this year, but I don't think it'll be as bothersome a season as the last couple.

Very much the same as Saint's performance but as all the media seem to agree, you grabbed a point like highway robber LOL!
