Quote An A-League team based in the western suburbs will be announced today, with soccer chiefs having elected to fund the club themselves, and the aim is to include the new side in next season's competition.
After months of trying to find a wealthy backer for the most prized region in Australian sport, Football Federation Australia will back its belief that a West Sydney team will tap into a huge market that Sydney FC has largely failed to engage with.'"
Why is it that once a TV deal is done with a sport down here, the governing body and/or a Broadcast partner invest so as to increase audience reach and participation, yet for 16+ years of ESL, London has been expected to fend for itself.
If anyone from the RFL ever bothers to read these boards.....do us and yourselves a favour. Stop propping up clubs like Bradford who should have known better, buy a controlling stake in our club and push the pope for beatification of David Hughes.
The FFA receive $120 million over 7 years with a new deal due next year.....their teams receive less that ESL clubs from this, their teams spend thousands more than ESL on travel (Wellington to Perth is the longest "away trip" in World domestic soccer).......their TV viewing figures are tiny and they average 10k across the board and are most definitely a minority profesional sport in Australia
Time to put up or shut up RFL/SKY........our club needs fresh cash and fresh ideas as well as a long term plan that will be backed 100% financially over 5 or more years.
