I haven't been there for 5 years though so maybe some of Etihad's millions have been spent on improving it. The stadium is top notch though and there's no roof so fewer Bambi on ice moments. It's not exactly spreading the game beyond the heartland but should make for a bigger bang for the season opener.

perversely, the new ground will not seen by many in the Manchester area as being in Salford and will attract a few Trafford shoppers. They have a big chance to build a new following but they should be beware of Sale as cuckoos in the nest. Look what happened to Stockport County.

I was actually hoping that the magic Weekend would have been held in Nottingham which has 2 stadiums capable of holding the event and both just a short travelling distance from the City Centre.

Edgeley Park was originally a RL ground. County went in as tenants in 1902 when they became a Football League side. However, Stockport RL went bust in 1905. In the Early noughties Stockport County almost went bust and as part of the survival plan the ground was sold to the holding comapny of Sale Sharks, Chesire Sports.


Stockport County shafted themselves not the other way round as some would have believe.
