Page 1 of this thread: Post Number 1
Quote ="rupe1"Haven't posted on here for a while and many on here am sure are very happy about that. I hated the way London Broncos turned from an exciting club into the disgustingly named Harlequins and became a ploddingly dull outfit with less characters and excitement than even the likes of Wakefield. ..........I no longer wish to watch a club I dont feel part of '"

Abuse me all you like, but I represent the thousands of people who used to go and have no interest in going anymore but could and want to come back.'"
Sorry, but anyone who starts a thread like this deserves to be shot down in flames, laughed at, called names, insulted and abused.
It's not like he didn't ask for it
Next up....Post number 57 in this career comes up with:
Quote ="RugbyLeague56"I, for one, support your contribution.
Please don't feel bad about the negative responses your earlier posting has attracted to date.
Keep the faith.'"
with a small smattering of humour for pud!
Quote ="Frankie goes to Napoli"Give credit to Rupe, its the first time I've ever agreed with dave lister. Toss pot that he is.'"
Then on page 4.....we have a massive entry from a 7 times poster!!!!
Quote ="Bagdad Yaha"I can understand where these people are coming from.
After all the years of abuse and bigotry by the Rugby Football Union, we go crawling to them for help and take on their name and colours. It was a dark day when it happened in my (and a few others) eyes.
I can't see many benefits on gameday of being Quins rather then the Broncos. For example:
* Griffin Park was a typical Rugby League stadium with its terracing and closeness to the pitch whereas playing in a relatively big ground quite a distance from the pitch is a huge atmosphere drainer.
* Griffin Park had a pub on each corner of the ground whereas you have to make a good 10-15 minute walk to a pub - called the William Webb Ellis, a RU pub.
* We had our own identity unlike now where we use someone elses. If you ask many Londoners they will say Harlequins is a RU team and not have a clue that there is also a RL team. The London Broncos didn't have a decent marketing team and thats why they struggled.
I've always been a believer that the best stadium I've seen RL played in London is Loftus Rd aka Queens Park Rangers home ground. Yes, the seats are a little uncomfortable and cramped but its a tidy ground, close to the pitch and now has the benefit of having the Westfield Centre nearby so the Wife & Daughter could go for a shop while Father & Son watch there team at QPR.
But I don't want to get into all this arguing, this is just my opinion, have a go at me if you must.
I love RL and am glad we have RL in London.'"
......so glad you could spare the time to pop in and post
Now.....on to page 5 and the arrival of the cavalry.......and note, the first mention of a "clique"
Quote ="scimitars"I must admit I find myself in a similar position to rupe1, I have been following the club since the Chiswick era and have not been to a game at the Stoop for the last 2 seasons. The main reasons for this are :-
1 Lack of ambition at the club
2 Lack of intensity on the field at time
3 The dismissal of any opinions on this website which the "clique" do not agree with, I once posted a sarcastic thread about I.L. after he dumped us for Wigan and was rounded upon on here, and told by the clique that the club did not need supporters like me, so I obliged.
I thought the Quins tie up would be great for us and was a great supporter of it. I was one of the few that went to watch our first game against the Catalans at St Eteve. To be honest the organisation at tthat game was a joke, no programs, no publicity etc. But just look how far they have progressed while we have stood still or even gone backwards'"
folowed by the voice of reason
Quote ="nnl01"It is really good of a guy that dumped Quins RL for Wigan to still be putting 600K per year of his own money into the club, and for his company Work Place Systems to be sponsoring the club for no reason though!'"
This is the bit where we all start to feel sorry for rupe1 and scimitars.....
Quote ="rupe1"Anyone who dares criticise the club and its players on here is shot down in flames - t'was ever thus.
My criticism of Jon Wells is a case in point. His strike rate as a super league winger is absolutely pathetic and has been for a number of years yet because he is a nice bloke and chats with people, anyone who dares say he is not good enough is shot down by the fundamentalists on here.
When voices such as mine and Scimitars mention that they don't like the product and don't want to watch it anymore, the fundamentalists on here tell them that they are 'miseries' or that 'you aren't welcome here with an attitude like that'
The simple fact is that Harlequins RLs average crowd is pathetic and getting worse. Rather than clapping yourselves on the back about how 'loyal and loud' you are, why not show some humility and accept others points of view? Why not accept that the club as it stands is not attractive to thousands of lapsed fans?'"
and we can now see that rupe1 is an educated poster, as he has a degree in stating the obvious
Quote ="rupe1"What a fatuous response. The club does need people like me because its average attendance is pathetic and getting worse and if it carries on like this a Super League licence next time around cannot be taken for granted.'"
followed by righteous indignation
Quote ="rupe1"Of course thats how it works, however does that mean personal insults at someone you have never met is acceptable?'"
and my caring reply...
Quote ="gutterfax"Of course an insult is acceptable. If you want to visit a forum full of RL fans and discuss what you think is going wrong, then you expect to get shot down. Your persecution complex on the other hand would point to deeper more personal issues
'"
Then some ideas
Quote ="rupe1"I have mentioned many things I would consider a way of attracting the fans back. I would reclaim the name and colours of London Broncos - I very much doubt that Harlequins RU would give a toss about the name change. I would get rid of absolutely mediocre players such as Jon Wells. Any foreign imports would be hard hitting, barnstoming characters. Matchdays would be on a Sunday. Football supporters would be massively targeted - any London season ticket holder can for 20 quid get a ticket to 3 super league games, and a drink/food item etc with heavily reduced season ticket etc etc.
And your response to that is to call me a 'twa-'?'"
...........so, let's go back to 2005....cracking idea
Now we get to the 1 point that rupe wanted to make some 8 pages ago....he isn't keen in Rugby Union or his perception of what it stands for
Quote ="rupe1"I think it would make a big difference. I personally find it abhorrent that we are known as 'Harlequins' and play in their colours. '"
OK........let's bin the name and the colours just to make this meglomaniac happy
Sorry, but this thread had just 1 aim, to get across the point that Rupe1 and his keyboard army with less that 200 post between them don't like the Harlequins tie in.
As for insults, as posted at the very beginning.....he asked, he got!
