| Interesting that Salford's issues become a scare story about our season ticket numbers. I don't know the source of the 3k figure, it is certainly not an official club figure, however there are a few bitter town types who seem to know a lot about the Giants ticket sales story I heard is less alarming - a smallish drop in numbers (No idea what small equates to in percentage terms) and a bit of a shift behind the sticks, overall income up on last year but not quite where the club hoped. As with all these sort of stories there is a bit of hearsay in there, ie told by someone who knows "someone".
Whatever the truth about season tickets we are nowhere even close to Salford's situation. They actually cut off revenue streams through the club etc at the Willows when they moved. Lovely new ground in a questionable location with the commercials all wrong.
What do we do? Buy season tickets, if get along to as many games as we can. Buy the new shirt or other gear. Support the team as best we can, if that includes post match celebrations at Wembley or Old Trafford all the better.
Look at the growth of Wire post 2009 cup win, we need a similar boost, I think there is more chance of that under Paul Anderson than the last two seasons of Nathan Brown.

| Excellent post.
No surprises that numbers aren't what had been hoped, but that shouldn't be unexpected all things considered
But if revenue is up then that's the main plus, what is really needed is for PA and the team to live up to their very real potential.

| No one is trying to scaremonger or put the club down. I am a fan and want the club to grow the post was to promote discussion. The bottom line is our club relys on a benefactor because the people of huddersfield dont support in numbers, Salford are the same their benefactor has said enough is enough. The Giants owe our benefactor millions in loan writeoffs, which because of his passion for the club he will not call in. It doesnt mean that will go on forever though.

you are quite right, our dream wont go on forever and ken will either lose interest or pass on...we have to get the club to a level where it can sustain itself without a benefactor

| Totally different situations though A-G
Salford have been in danger of going to the wall for years, little investment, pretty stagnant crowds and sat in Salford where the changing demographic just doesn't have the populace to support a sports team (I suspect of any kind). Add to that the fact the club lost revenue streams when they left the Willows that needed 4000 more fans a season to turn up to their new ground says to me it was inevitable
As for our benefactor, yes we know the situation we live on (kinda like every other club almost and definately every other soccer club) but again even if Mr Davey were to call it a day the financial situation of our region is much stronger than that of Salford.

very good point, we have done very well with the afro carribean players that have come through over the years and the current crop.. worth targetting

Not even remotely have they "set a precedent"
The situation between Salford and Bradford couldn't be more different

| I'm not going to pretend I know the full ins and outs of Salford's situation in situ or in comparison with Bradford's, I just feel for the fans as it must be a horrible sinking feeling to watch a club you follow end up in such a dire situation.

^ This - the lifeblood of the club, and don't take my word for it just ask Ken Davy.
Even if you always take the budgie for it's annual shampoo and set without fail every last Sunday in June of every year, and so have to miss a home fixture, still buy a season ticket.

| I think when Ken calls it a day we will be in a pretty bad way yes, the question is how long have we got till then and can we make enough progress to appeal to someone else or indeed get by without a 'sugar daddy'.
I've seen this club nearly fold 2 or 3 times now so it isn't new territory should it get that bad again but not somewhere i want to go again.

| As fan who has already bought ST. it seems to me that all the exhortations to follow giants and all things done to promote attendance is aimed at people who are already fans and not enough done to publicise outside existing fan base. I know advertising costs money, but as the saying goes you've got to speculate to accumalate.

| As a PS to my previous post. The only indication of the Giants I can think of is the shop down in town which sells the merchandise. Other wise I can think of no other sign of the Giants in or around Huddersfield.

Agree with this, its almost as if its a case of 'oh well, if they come they come' from the club at times.

| There was a copy of the twah-uwag splash screen on a huge plateglass window Kirkgate end of packhorse. Also large plastic sign on rails outside George hotel, and posters outside founders bar.Not to mention loads of copies of st papers in railway station foyer.
Suppose the club are always open to suggestions from fans about how things could be done better.

Haven't had chance to follow this story that closely yet,but is this the sum of cash needed short term to ensure they can start next season?
Surely the RFL must step in and help like they did with Bradford.
Still in the final shake up Salford need someone to take over the club long term. They are trying to get investors interested before the last resort of administration it would seem.
This throws up a lot of questions about the franchising carry on.Were the clubs forced to move too fast to get into new stadia and all concerned just banking on more speccies automatically coming through the turnstiles.Suppose it's the job of the governing body (RFL) to try and drive up standards, but in this case has it backfired badly.
Salford struggled on at the Willows for long enough, but kept going.
Good stadium is that new one,not sure why more locals don't want to get behind that club.Salford area though it's seems has less appetite for RL than Huddersfield and we struggle compared to others.
The greatest kick in the teeth for RL will be if in the only long term beneficiary will be the Sale rugby union.

not too sure either, just know the council have withdrawn the offer of 750k so they are now short with the season soon to start
i think salfords new stadium is in a poor location, just seems to be out in the middle of knowhere!

And are you willing to cough up the £350,000-£750,000 this would cost?

| Rhinos just park up a van on ring road week before home matches, can't see this costing £350,000. All we need are 2 box vans and big posters sticking on sides advertising next game coming up, one on Leeds Road and one Mirfield/Dewsbury way?
Be a damn sight cheaper parking the van up than running the bloody thing with current petrol prices!!! ;-0)
