| Singing section is already set up, everyone knows where it is.
Let's be right, the club and players have already stated hundreds of times that a noisy crowd helps them so I don't think they need to say it again. It's down to people to decide to go to the singing section. It's on them. Not the club and not the singing section. The people that want to sing have to move to the singing section, simple as that.

| As I said. Everyone knows where the singing section is.
If you're going to talk the talk then you're going to have to walk the walk. You can't expect the singing section to move stands because you don't want to move. You're running everyone else down because you won't move!
If you won't move then that's fine but there's no point preaching, moaning about a change you won't make and expecting others to suit you.

There isn't one as like i said before, the Riverside stand was always where the quieter fans chose to go ....those that wanted to sing went in the Kilner bank, the ones on the Riverside went there because they wanted to watch the game in peace and not surrounded by people shouting and singing - maybe that isn't the case now but i know it traditionally was.

Are you being deliberately obtuse.
There are people that sing in BOTH stands.
You stay in the Kilner bank stand and stand with the singers there.
I will try to get the club to do something to get the singers in the Riverside stand together.
It is rather simple really.
Is it so hard to understand.
As i understand it many of the singers over there no longer go to games or seem to have stopped singing.
Why knock people for trying something different. It does not affect you. It has no impact on you. Yet you take every opportunity to run it down.
What is your Constructive answer to the lack of atmosphere. ?

But as i keep pointing out there are lots of people that sing in the Riverside, Me tansy, jools etc and others who join in but they are all spread out. I am willing to leave my seat ( although not that stand) to get those WHO DO SING IN THE RIVERSIDE together.

There's only one person around here being obtuse.

So you have got nothing constructive to say fine. Leave it up to those who want to try something different.

| Read through the thread!
It's pretty obvious what is going on here now. No point having a go at me for your own failings.
Everyone knows where the singing section is! This is a 24k ground with a 7k average. Do the maths.

| the singers in the riverside,to my knowledge, and with respect to tansey etc are mostly new fans ( from the last 6-7 years) and probably weren't aware that the kilner bank was where the singers congregated, therefore we have,in effect, 2 singing sections in 2 stands as durham says.
but as danril correctly points out the so called singing section has been in the same place since the first game.i appreciate what DG is saying but i also agree with dan that if people want to be part of a singing section then they are more than welcome to come over and join the existing singers in the kilner bank.
ideally, the ones who want to sing and shout in the riverside would come over to the kilner bank and join in there rather than try and create a section in the riverside, which,as daz correctly points out,was traditionally the quiet/family stand.
i doubt the people in the riverside would welcome sitting with the rabble in the kilner bank though

| So if people want to sing they have to go and sit at the back away from the action - ever thought maybe that's an issue for some who would like to see the game without climbing up loads of stairs. Why not make the singing section in an area that would encourage more to be in it rather than just saying this is where we are going to be cause thats where weve always been. Personally I wouldn't go up their because its not the singing section - it's the singing and swearing section- I had a season ticket for many years in that stand and I moved over when I had kids - and why many others choose to go in the FAMILY stand. It's got nothing to do with wanting it quiet.

| We originally went up there when the stadium was 1st opened because there was quite a few of us from Fartown and Leeds Road and we all wanted to be sat together and decided that that would be the best area as we weren't amongst the main bulk of fans who maybe didnt want noisyl singers amongst them.
These people then generally went and sat in the Riverside stand or 'posh seats' as they became known to the Kilner lot over the years, obviously the influx of newer fans and the clubs push to attract families to the sport saw this stand becoming more populated with newer fans who had no affiliation to either stand and the club then made the riverside the 'family' stand which probaby encouraged one or two to join in the chants.
My original point wasn't about asking people to move but mainly about the in-game noise, but at least we are getting to see issues others have with the matchday experience

| Why would stairs discourage singing? You're grasping IMO.
For the record, I'm all for making improvements but all I'm reading is suggestions that people want singers to come and sit near them for their own convenience. That's my take on it and it isn't up to me to solve the problem by offering a viable alternative than joining the established singing section, particularly when I believe that is the best and quickest way forward.
People want to improve the atmosphere but don't want to make the sacrifice of moving stands, climbing stairs or hearing the odd rude word from a rambunctious crowd. When you actually think about it, it's worthy of a chortle!

That is exactly why i dont want to go over there with my kids.
As Meast says many of the singers in the Riverside are new people. Some of the singers are just kids, They might want to stay in the RIverside. When they are 18 and happy to have a few beers and join in the banter and adult coversation and swearing they can graduate and move over to the Kilner bank.
BUT for now let us do something for the NEW fans, for the kids and families the club are trying to engage with. At the minute they are in the riverside.
Ultimately this boils down to the fact that there are two MAIN groups of fans those who are traditionalists and those who are newer fans.
it is my view the traditionalists come to games whatever, they wear there old Giants or traditional shirts, they go to away games with the people they have been with for 20 years, They remember winter rugby and standing at Fartown, they went to places like Mansfield and Kent Invicta and Fulham, they meet at the pubs before games but they are dwindling. They do not sing as much
Then there are new ones not as steeped in the culture and traditions of Fartown who know the Giants, who have started coming in the last few years on the back of cheap tickets and family friendly policies, who sit in the riverside who need some encouragement and leadership to get involved.
I am one of the first group who wants to encourage the club to do more for the second group so that they can move into the gaps available in that first group as others leave for whatever reason.

| DG - a lot of the people i go to games with now are recent fans with no sense of our history as well as some of the same people i did 20 years ago...in fact probably more of the newer fans come to games now, certainly in the group i go with.... the 2 groups of fans you mention interact very well as it is in my view and i think its more of a case of people choosing not to sing rather than not knowing where to go to do it.

| We used to sit in the 'singing' stand. I moved with the kids when I felt mildly threatened by certain away fans [pre-whatever stand being opened for away fans and also got fed up with the swearing.
As most of you will know, I always try and stand near the singers at away matches.
The challenge I now have is that my 'little' girl does not want to move from her seat, especially to the other side, and I want to sit next to her [if you're a parent you'll understand this. DG & Tansy sit a short distance away from us and I generally try and get the chanting going around us when they start.
On a personal level, the singers are too far back and too high up for my enjoyment of the game.
There is absolutely no reason why we shouldn't have both sides of the stadium with a singing section. Despite what some people say, our side is not full of old fuddy duddies [well, not fuddy duddies anyway!. I've never had a complaint about singing [taunting the opposition's officials, yes, but that's another story!.

| both sides have little singing sections now.
the main one has always been at the top of the kilner bank but numbers have dwindled.
some people have gone over to the riverside from the kilner bank for their own personal reasons.
people have season tickets and seats they have used for years and wont move or certainly wont move stands.
the two singing sections wont merge which would be the answer to this... if the club said right we have a signing section and its at the top of the kilner bank people wouldnt move stands! and visa versa.
anyway back on topic - stop the stupid music after a try as its killing off alot of the chanting and drowning us out and putting people off singing

| How about following in Leeds example (they tried it last Minday iirc) and playing the song as the team comes out...admittedly they used the rubbish UB40 cover instead of the original but that's something id like to see...
Fools Rush In is forever linked in my head to Fartown & the Giants but not enough people sing the main verses, keep playing it when the team comes out, both singing sections joining in and it's a winner IMO!

Who would have thought a song started being used by Swansea fans at Wycombe in 1994 would have had such an impact 250 miles away nearly 20 years later. Sad fact is that whilst it has been picked up by many other clubs the Swans fans hardly ever sing it anymore.
Still it brings a smile everytime we sing it.
