| Quote ="jools"Coaches seem to like Murphy, I get he's hardworking, commited etc, but he's not currently giving us an advantage on the field that I can see. I'd play ormsby above Murphy next week, Just to see if he can with some pace and strength. If Murphy has to play then put him in at centre.
Jery doesn't look right to me either- he's limping and holding his leg at times- if he's not 100% we shouldn't be risking him. Players like him will be crucial after the split!'"
Murphy has been exceptionally quiet this year... Made some decent carries last night though.. Personally, i'd like to see Ormsby on the wing, Murph centre and mellor 2nd row.... Not sure if Ferguson has earned a spot in the team... Mellor has been really poor in defence, but centre is an extremely tough position to defend. So hopefully Murph can tighten things up if he was in centre..
Of course Jerry isn't right, he tore his quad. They forced him back way too early... Currently we have a huge chunk of our salary cap stood on that right edge doing absolutely nothing (leroy, jerry). We desperately need to find a way to get them into the game.

There's a large part of our salary cap in clough and Wakeman doing less than absolutely nothing! Clough and Gaskell were offered silly money for championship players. Gaskell looked bright last night- I can see what he brings. (But those handling errors were awful). Clough is no better than josh Johnson and we would have a local lad playing for us and could have saved a chunk!

| Frustrating watching them stop moving up allowing Leeds all the space they needed to get a 10 point lead. Then finally woke up,the blindside move that led to the try ended up being the highlight of the evening.More of that type of play required.
The second half was nothing short of a shambles, the harder they tried the worse it seemed to get,the stupid mistakes, the confusion, compounded by Broughy lashing out. Ablett always seem capable of winding up our players.
At the mo it's difficult to see what RS is trying to build. As others have said on here blame has to go on our recruitment. Some of the forwards,I'm not saying they are not trying but no 'dynamic' in them. Hope Bruno (workrate) and Symonds can get back asap.
Jez does seem to be struggling, we rely so much on him and Leroy to take us forward on that right edge.
McIntosh had the proverbial 'mare, hope he can come back stronger. Gaskell was probably the pick.
Thaler allowing slow clearance early did not help, not blaming him at all though overall.
The word I would use to describe last night's performance is from a Giants pov is INEPT.
Looking all over a middle 8 candidate.
Next home game Cats on a Wednesday night,I can't wait

Our worst recruit for me seems to be Wakeman- and he's stones pick! My issue is he doesn't seem to have brought any structure on the field- no "moves", no shape, we are just passing the ball left to right and back again. And our defence..... shipping on average 26 points a game isn't good enough.

Agreed Jools. We have to give Wakeman tad bit more time though as he had no pre season but definitely showing no signs of been a SL prop, wouldn't stand out in the championship at present. As for Clough is he a mate of Andersons? weve been well and truly done with his signature - what a waste of CAP space when we could be playing Tyler Dickinson, at least hes home grown and young. But no doubt he will carry on getting picked due to "experience".
Ferguson signing is a joke as well - should have let him go to Wakey when we had the chance.
Do we have room for a mid season signing? No decent English players are likely to come available are they? Tom Burgess is not getting a game for Souths atm - we desperately need another good prop, could we get a loan deal????

Well the stats from last night suggest Clough was probably our best forward last night. Solid in attack and defence no errors and no penalties.

In a game as bad as last night "solid player" as many put it who just runs the ball in and doesnt knock on will probably come out with the best stats. Hes still a very poor signing in my opinion and I think most stats are pile of crap anyway.

| One thing i noticed and commented on was the lack of any dummy runners or lines been run 20 metres out , years ago you would see players all over the place and sometimes we had too many options and took the wrong one, nowadays it does seem as if we are just looking for a hole to run through rather than trying to create one.
Thing is Leeds were awful and we made them look comfortable and that's a worry, in victories gone by against them we've gone at the from the 1st minute, it was the one thing that gave us the edge over them - the aggression, the will to win, the determination to knock them down, run through them etc - last night we were simply strolling up to them in attack and defence.
Thought Gaskell looked good again and Ukuma was the pick of the forwards for me, thought Raps had his best game too and is getting some form back, Kruise was busy but had little help at times and was just left to run on his own.
Darnell made a few errors but that's all part and parcel of learning the game, anyone bagging him already needs to give their head a shake imo.
Don't think we played that badly really it was just bad execution and game management and trying to score off every set once we go behind, we have no patience on or off the field !!

Darnell should keep his place next week I agree, no matter what team we field we will lose the game im 99.9% confident of that and we may as well get him the experience for future.
ATM my visions of the MPG consist of either Us V Widnes, Us v HKR or HKR v Widnes

i'm 99.9% confident of winning every game - doesn't always last long when the game kicks off though.

| anyone else notice how leeds tackled out players then we got dragged back another 5-10 yards everytime
are we going into the tackle wrong?! are others not helping out pushing them forward when being pushed back
seems only one player is allowed to offload , ikahihifo, even then we arent on the same page
watching the giants attack is depressing

I thought we would get beat against Wigan (who had 12 players injured) I recall many on here saying they dont buy into the fact they had so many missing as a reason for our point but many keep mentioning Symonds and Bruno as an excuse for our defence?
We have 3 players who would get in our starting 17 out at the moment in Bruno, Mamo and Symonds as I genuinely dont think Mason and O Brien would be in Stones starting 17 (They would be in mine).
Other teams have alot more injuries than us. Wigan are having it bad and still manage, Catalans have loads and still play reasonably well, Saints, Wakefield, Leigh all have injuries and manage.
Why does it affect us more than other teams? We cant have our starting 17 on the field every game in fact teams very rarely do these days.
Because we are THAT bad but I didn't get excited by the fact we got a point like many did and last night is the reason why. we have become just a general poor team. The type of rugby we play is boring and we generally have made no improvements over last season we have replaced average players with more average players or players who will miss half a season.

Very depressing. I get excited and up for every game before hand but you can generally tell with the Giants after 10 minutes what sort of game its going to be. The 2 easy tries and I knew we would lose the game as we are chasing the game instantly. Granted we came straight back and got in front but then the usual errors and bad management kicks in and all goes to plot.
Ive noticed a pattern over last season and this season. If we concede first we generally lose those games. (Salford, Leigh, Leeds & Hull)
WIDNES is an exception in the first game this season as we came back to win against the worst team in the comp.
Games we scored first Wakefield, Wigan we got something from the game.
We rarely rarely get our noses in front and we seem to always be slow out of the blocks and chasing to get back in the game.

Daz i found myself agreeing with most of that till the last line, and that just beggars belief. What you put down to no patience , most put down to no idea. We are short on patience maybe, but we are a lot shorter on quality.

| As i said last night once we go behind we play panic rugby, no matter what the score is or how long is left we try and score on EVERY set rather than going for repeat sets, making the opposition do some defensive work, building pressure - it's almost as if we are instructed to try and score - either that or we need someone out there to take control and do the above things, Broughy used to be so good at that but even he's playing the panic stuff now.

Everything you have described there Daz, is describing lack of quality throughout the team. We are no better than last season " YET " That's where RS comes in, so far he has not , We do have one or two good players who perform well most weeks, As a team we are knowhere, and the worst part is we have some of them for a long time.

Jo I agree.
What worries me is we have we have 2 maybe 3 players OOC this season.
Sam Rapira which I can see us giving him another 2 year deal knowing the Giants.
Jared Simpson cant see him getting a new deal given how injury prone he is.
Potentially Mikey Wood aswell I think
Jamie Eliis is supposed to be returning so someone has to be leaving to make way? But from what I hear... hes doesn't want to come back.
We have many players OOC at the end of next season - in fact half the team.
Mamo
Brough
Ormsby
Wakeman
Ikahihifo
Murphy
Taai
Clough
Ferguson
Symonds
Hinchliffe
Nathan Mason
Tyler Dickinson
Liam Johnson
Jake Wardle
Thats a hell of alot. Just out of curiosity which players would you give a new deal to???
Looking back at it another ANDERSON signing Daniel Smith was a strange one half way through the year on a 4 1/2 year contract for an average player - madness.

There was quite a lot last year i wanted rid of, and we replaced them with the same standard. the task now is to get them playing good enough for us to survive. I am of half a mind to think we may even be better to get relegated, Would KD walk away, and I'm thinking the present system won't be here next year anyway so probably won't happen. We look to be in for a long spell of Pre KD years with ever decreasing crowds probably, But there's nothing to be done but keep turning up if we are daft enough, and hope RS has more than he has shown yet. We are all great coaches on the Keyboard but he is the man whho has to do it for real.

we dont have anyone who can manage a game
they buckle under the pressure
last week against wigan was a prime example and we have had many over the years
brough cant handle the pressure
hinchcliffe was supposed to help us on this score but not happened

| Hinchcliffe was never brought in as that kind of game managing player- as he isn't and hasn't been. Hinchcliffe was a solid cog in a very well oiled wheel at storm with smith slater and cronk pulling the strings and hinchy and the rest dancing to the well choreographed tune.
a shame Eorl couldn't have stayed and produced the form of two/three seasons ago as I reckon we miss him. When he came on the field the team always lifted.

They didn't lift very far last season, Big Eorl was big on effort low on skills, PA saw to that. But fair enough he had a presence.

| Quote ="jools"Hinchcliffe was never brought in as that kind of game managing player- as he isn't and hasn't been.
When he came on the field the team always lifted.'"
