| Certainly a strange one, on the 29th May it was announced he had signed a contract extension till end of 2015. A lots happened since then.
I would be more than relieved to learn that hes gone on a season long loan, but is that the case? Would he then come back? Maybe its just be balancing the books? Is Blackmore a better prospect? Is it just Andersons opinion of the player, if so in him you have to trust as head coach, albeit I don't necessarily agree, I trust his judgement if thats what it is.

| If this is a loan then brilliant, a masterstroke from the coaching staff to get Gregg some first team SL action this year rather than at Batley, if this is a sale then i will seriously be doubting Andersons decision.
I cant remember the last time i saw such a young, raw, talented exciting player in the claret and gold. To me, Gregg has all the assets to be a top player, similar to a Tomkins type and i think we should be shaping our team around lads like him.
Time will tell but i hope this is confirmed soon!!

Why would Hull KR make a cash offer if it's a loan ?

Because that is journalism.... what is the info based on?
Its more wishful thinking from my end to be honest. I'd be gutted to see him leave.

| Perhaps it's more to do with Baloo's & Purtill's all round assessment of Eden. And perhaps his contract extension was NB's call.

| Quote ="Durham Giant"We have to have a smaller squad this year. some players have to g as they are surplus. Who else do you want to ship out instead. Should we keep Eden and Molloy and just say to Mullally, or Taai or Kopczak sorry we are cancelling your contracts there is no room at the inn.
Murphy and Grix are as good as Eden at full back and cover more positions. Also Anderson maybe does not have enough time to blood new players as after last season he needs experience and to get back to winning ways quickly'"
spot on durham you just cant keep everybody!
lets keep all 3 then, murphy grix and eden vying for one spot, grix or murphy plays whole season at full back while the other two play for batley all season
and who know what the cash offer is..you would think its very good (they got money from wigan for green, also got money for taylor from wigan)
might of been too good to turn down, if the season tickets sales arent going well then ken davy is prob thinking ill take the money here instead, after paying for kopzchak aswell

| Quote ="Durham Giant"Jools and GIant Dee you need to start a Anderson, Purtill and THorman out thread then as their opinions differ widely from yours.
Murphy played well in every game and posoition he had too last season with the exception of Widnes.
He was an exceptionally solid player when playing on the wing and had good games at Full back. If he had been given a run in one position over a few games we would have seen how god he was.
Eden's positional play was awful on may occasions at full back and he is not as fast as some people seem to be making out.
I am with the current coaches on this one as opposed to the last coach who said he was the new Billy Slater'"

| we did sign murphy to be our 2012 full back, but he was in rehab and eden took his chance.
wakefield fans who saw alot of murphy said he was a brilliant full back.. we havent seen this, only played 2 games in that position! you need a good run at it.
if eden is going then it might be down to balancing the books, the offer too good to turn down for a player who in the coaches eyes is behind grix/murphy and would prob of been playing full back for batley next season.
my gripe is that he has the future potential... more so than grix... but grix can cover half back eden cant you see.

| rubbish if thats the case, sorry but i cant see how selling one of the best talents this club has had for decades can be seen as a positive. unless its a ridiculous amount of money, and if it was i think the club should tell us then, is anything but a bad move. if its money we are after why not lurs sell all our best players n not worry about on field performances? top teams would build around talent like his not cash in the 1st opportunity we get !

Agree 100% but he gets more than his fair share of criticism on here so I think there are a few who will be glad to see the back of him. To me he is a work in progress but one with the potential to be great, Cas missed out and looks like we will too and it will be galling if he does become the finished article there. Perhaps the coaches see things differently but as a supporter would be much happier with him in our squad than out of it and unless any money and room on the salary cap gets channeled into a quality signing (always a possibility something is going on and this move is the trigger) I can not see the logic behind it.

| Where has this idea that Eden is great come from.
He played well at the begining of the season and then disappeared like most of the team..
What is this potential that everyone is on about.
Correct me if i am wrong but do we not have some good kids coming through from the Under nineteens who have a lot of potential in the backs. Maybe one of them will in the coaches views be better than Eden.
I can only assume that because NB said he was the new Billy Slater everyone thinks we are going to lose out on the new BIlly Slater.
CAS coaches wanted to keep him but not so much that they were prepared to offload any of their other kids to keep him.
Purtill ( the Knights coach), Thorman the backs coach and Baloo the head coach have seen him more than any of us and they obviously dont believe the new BIlly Slater hype and are hapy for him to go so why doubt them..
Which of the Eden lovers ( that is not the filter by the way) on here are going to say they can identify talent better than our 3 coaches.
I just do not get it.
There are only two players at our club who IMHO are irreplaceable Brough and Eorl. All of the others could go and as long as their are decent replacements / cover they would not be missed.

| and purtill subbed him in the england knights game recently... this after he wasnt picked behind riley (warringtons winger) in the first game v scotland
the club want the money over a player who would most likely be playing for batley all next season.

Can see Batley wanting forwards to be honest rather than backs off us and if Eden was to stay and not get in the team would not think we would want to risk exposing him to a season of Championship rugby when an injury to Grix would probably have him back in the team.

The Billy Slater reference is a total red herring but for a guy who has played probably 25 SL games he has shown he can do the business in a good team but not necesserily do as well in a team playing badly I'd say he has great potential, some of the Under 19 players may have more potential long term but a Grix injury in pre-season and would any of them be as ready as Eden to step in???
Its not a question of spotting talent better than X, Y or Z just saying things how you see it and Eden has polerized opinion for most of the season, if he is great at Hull KR does that make their coaches better talent spotters than ours or just mean they got him playing to his strengths as any good coach should.
If we have a replacement lined up great, if not I can not see the logic of moving him on at this time (and as with most other comments on here thats just my opinion and it is not telling Anderson or anyone else how to do their job and without opinions what would be the point of this board).

Yes he has potential but loads of players have potential.
Last season he showed some glimpses of his ability.
Attack wise he looked good but his positional play in defence was very very poor.
He was Ok under the high ball but he did not organise the defence very well.
Whilst some of those weaknesses can be improved i found his positional play a concern for someone who played at Full back it should have been better.
I think that Grix is will be a better attacking full back, he does not just run through the gaps as Eden did BUT has the vision to put others through the gap.
The concerns about Grix have all been about his defence I hope that PA's recruitment will tighten up that defence. Grix maybe found out on occasions but with that pack in front of him, Leroy and Wardle in defence not often.
If Grix gets injured then there is Murphy to come in.
We cannot keep all the players we had, someone had to go FACT.
Maybe Jools could let us know about the youngsters we have to come in. I am sure we have someone in the U19s who was mentioned as been potentially a great full back.
When you add in the transfer fee, the saving on SC, the need for smaller squad, and the options we have available in the U19s then letting Eden go is a logical and reasonable decision.
I cannot think of one player the Giants have let go in the last 7 or 8 years who proved to us anywhere else that our coaches made a mistake.
I would like to think that the financial situation may allow us the flexibility this year or next to bring in another half back.

i think if grix got injured murphy would slot in...who knows murphy maybe first choice yet we just dont know, pre season will be interesting
like durham says, we seldom get it wrong when letting young players go.... who has gone on to prove us wrong?
mcnally, elliot hodgson, fagborun, hemingway, peltier, orwell..all players with supposedly great potential ...the list is goes on.... we can come back at the end of 2013 and look back and see if walker, eden, molloy, sarsfield proved the coaches decision was wrong to let go..
personally i think molloy was the best of the ones we let go.
not confirmed about eden yet anyway so hold fire!

So you do not trust Purtill , Thorman and Baloo to make the right choices.
Whatever people say about the coaches this year they should be congratulated on making decisions and changing things that is a positive IMHO

They were always going to have to make decisions but what have they really changed a few bit part players released, a couple of turned down contracts, one signing which looks a cast iron cert (Kopczak) and a few where if they come off will be excellent but as we stand we have no way of knowing how they will go and probably just two real big calls to make Mason out (unsurprising) and the one on Eden (and it happening late in the day is the integuing aspect of that one as if it was clear cut why not make him available in September and see if more than just KR were interested).
Again that is no slight on the coaches but the jury remains out until we see how they line up on day 1 and beyond but they have kept more the same than they have changed so you are praising them for something that in truth they have not actually done that much.....yet.
