| Grix was outstanding for me last night, Cas peppered him all night with high bombs and he handled everyone one of them and ran the ball back in - he reminded me of a certain Mr Reilly who used to play in that position !
The other backs didnt really get going which is down to Cas stifling them and the lack of attacking chances/options.
Brown and Broughy tried to create something in the 2nd half but again the Cas players had them covered and our choice of tactics were wrong last night, we tried playing them down the middle and almost seemed devoid of a plan B when it was clearly not working.
The forwards ran hard all night but were hitting brick walls with Cas shirts on and couldnt get the offloads going.
i think the conditions will have played a part but lets not forget Wheldon road with a fired up Cas side is a hell of a place to go and get a result .
We despatched Wire with ease last week so lets not get too carried away and expect that every week.
Well done to Cas though last night !!

| It was a poor performance where we were basically out-enthused and went into it expecting the result rather than earning it.
If it weren't for that frankly ludicrous VR decision we would have actually gotten a point, which we didn't deserve.
Cas played well. Just goes to show that you need to put in the effort and have the right attitude from minute one or you can walk away with nothing.

| From a Cas fans view not having a pop or anything but I think its good to get other fans views;
I thought Grix was your best player last night. He took everything thrown at him and kept coming.
McGilvary - I took him out of my dream this week. What a plank, he's back in tomorrow. Finished well and is a true winger.
Lunt - apart from his sin binning, he changed the game when he came on. Much more of a threat than the starting hooker. Now that may have been fatigue but Lunt showed his class.
Flashes of brilliance were on display last night. First 10 minutes of the second Brown seemed to come to life and started playing. Unfortunately 10 minutes wasn't good enough.
Disappointing for you guys were the size of your pack and experience of your pack has should have done better. Faurmina (sp) was shocking. He's a good hooker but until last night I kept thinking, 'why have the Giants signed Ferguson?' well now I see that once he's Giants match fit he'll be in for this guy. 11 and 12 for you guys are beast but play like superstars and not workhorses that they needed to be last night.
Overall, play that game 100 times and Huddersfield would have the higher win percentage. I fully expect you guys to be top 4 this year and will look forward to watching the Giants on Sky. A couple of tweaks to the playing staff and line up and you'll be pushing for Old Trafford.
Good luck rest of the season.

| Well I'm ready for slitting my wrists after reading this thread. Jeez guys get a grip! Ok we had a bad day at the office (like all top teams do) from what we've started to expect from our boys, yet we lost by 6 points to a team who's fans are almost soiling themselves over how well they played. Take into consideration that Brown bombed a try and the video try given to Cas that was a joke. Then after listening to radio leeds this afternoon apparently Dixon blatantly knocked on in a Cas try and it could so easily have been us taking the 2 league points. I'd rather we have an off day at the start of the season and learn the lessons now for later on in the comp. The only downer I have is how Horne can make the team whilst Larne misses out. Heads up folks, it'll all be forgotten next week after we tonk Hull FC.

| Its RL, You have to earn the right to play, And your forwards came off second best, Thats the reason you lost.
Everyone knows about our farce of a referee last week, But its actually helped the players. They know whats coming now and its speeded up our players at the play the ball dramatically, So we therefore gave very few penalties away. Which was strange for us.
We have signed very well, A lot will have gone un noticed, As we havent raided the NRL for a super star, We identified weak links, And we have signed what we needed.
We had a Stand Off who is unpredictable, But not able to control a game, So we signed a Scrum Half who can do that. Danny Orr was immense last night, We signed a reliable full back, A winger who is a proven try scorer and a couple of hard working forwards.
Who knows, Maybe the season will pan out, And you will finish lots higher than us, But i doubt it. We are a pretty solid side this year, And its no shame losing, In conditions like that it was going to be a slog.
I wouldnt say too many of your players were "Disappointing", We scored one questionable try on BOTD, And another where a player dropped the ball to another to dive on. Add to that the Cudjoe error, Kevin Brown's dropped ball, And the Richard Mathers SUPERB try saving tackle, Another day, It could have been a different story.

Yes, we played poorly.
But you're knocking the same players who destroyed Saints the other week. You're knocking the players who received huge credit for last week's performance.
Were any of you posters at the game? Or were you just watching the blinkered version on TV?
Girx was outstanding at FB MOM for me.
It's 'get on David Hodgson's back' again is it? Our top try scorer. Our highest ever SL try scorer? He is usually extremely good under the high ball.
Leroy's fumble: I suspect he was expecting the ball to bounce a lttile higher, it hardly bounced at all. Yes, an England centre should have done better, but...
Bruno is getting the same criticisms that one certain Michael DeVere got in his time with us.
2 year's ago the guy who went on to become SL's Man Of Steel had an appalling start to the season. He couldn't kick goals, he was throwing passes into touch, he dropped high balls. O'Dnnell's had 2 SL games. Give him chance.
I thought Eorl & Griff put in some excellent runs.
Fooey was well smothered last night. He didn't do anything wrong, he just wasn't his usual creative self.
And that was last night's problem. Creativity.
Defensively we were almost sound. We let in 3 tries - one of them controversial. However, we didn't move up at Cas's PTB any where near quick enough. But apart from that we did OK.
IF we'd have come out in the first half like we did in the second we'd have destroyed Cas. We didn't and Cas did the basics better than us and deserved to win.
I too am bitterly disappointed, in fact I'm well and truly brassed off. But, after seeing all 6 matches so far this year I recognise the potential not just in the team, but at the club. I realise [hope!! that this was a one-off.
I'd rather beat a top side like Warrington and lose to a decent side like Cas [yes, I would rather beat both! because it shows we are capable of winning against the best. There's 25 more matches to go. So GET OFF PEOPLE'S BACKS AFTER ONE POOR GAME.
There, rant over.'"
Best Post you've ever made on this hallowed forum! For me, the Lads will have off days, and that was an off day. Next week, we need to dust ourselves off, and get back to working hard to beat a very okay Hull team. In the wingers, yes we do maybe need speed, but for f*ck sake, will everyone get off our best winger (and try scorer) ever's back!?! He plays well 99% of the time, and one bad game, and he's just become sh*te all of a sudden. Horne, he probably isn't good enough - but he works hard, and I admire that. So, next weeks 17 should be (if JS is here)
Grix
Cudjoe
Lawrence
Simpson
Hodgson
Brown
Brough
Griffin
Carlile
Mason
Fa'alongo
Gilmour
O'Donnell

| He has also been hampered by injury for most of those 14 months...
Personally I think Grix was immense at fullback, didnt make a single mistake (unlike the VR, what on earth goes on in the brains of these people?)
Cas played superbly to the conditions, its a tough place to go, the conditions were rubbish (and often the great leveller, for those of us that can remember winter rugby)
Consider this (and no disrespect intended to Cas). Can Cas play better? Can the Giants?
I am certain we will finish top 6.

| I think the most disappointing thing for me was the lack of enthusiasm, they didn't seem to be in the right frame of mind for the game - typical example was the kick-chase. DB was putting some excellent kicks in down field but the chase (particularly in the first 20-25 mins) seemed vary laboured....might just be me though.

DB was kicking very positional at the start but then put some bombs up that went backwards or sidewards. So I think his kicking was not his best

You were doing so well until I noticed you have dropped McGillvary.
Cas out enthused us from the start - our line speed was rubbish from the off and we paid the price.
Lessons learnt I hope - send out the same 19 and tell 'em to get their s in gear this week.
In defence of Luke O'Donnell I think he will have received a culture shock on Sat night - I can't see him having competed in those conditions much in Queensland. Get him practising with a big bar of soap.
Grix was great and McGillvary finished well - he had plenty to do for that first try and it didn't look like anyone was going to stop him. The rest were pretty poop.

Larne Patrick is a now regarded as a prop, Fa'alogo, O'Donnell and Gilmour are all second-rowers. Why should they be in front of him?

So, I think you are saying if Simpson's fit you would replace Lawrence with Simpson. Unless Simpson is fitter than first thought I don't think we'll see him for a few weeks so 2 to 5 will stay as Cas game.
Anyways, I don't think it's a good idea to call Jermaine 'Gillers' - will cause all kinds of confusion and I don't think I could stand another Lee Gilmour thread.

I thought he'd been told he had 3-4 weeks of hard work infront of him before being considered for selection.
Maybe he's fit but needs to learn all the plays, get used to how team mates play etc. Still don't think we will see him for a few weeks.
