| Quote ="Jo Jumbuck"Iv'e never understood this business about coaches who haven't got their own team, or they have inherited players they didn't sign.
If a coach takes on a job , he takes it on and if he's done his homework he will have researched the club and know what is what. That said, Having taken the job it's his job to get the best out of the players available until he is able to strengthen somewhat, If he is a good coach the team should progress even if slowly, If he is a very good coach the players will improve hugely, and if he is a great coach the team will be in contention for what's available. and that has been and is being done at other clubs.
Where the Giants have been unlucky is with injuries, if it is all down to bad luck, whatever it's been going on for three years now and that seems to be a long time for a streak of bad luck to last.
The bottom line is that Rick didn't do what he came to do for whatever reason and so he had to go, That's what happens in Rugby league clubs,
He's had less time than many of his predecessors but that has been a costly policy in the past on occasions. I'm hoping that the end of Rick is far from the end of the changes but i feel that is a forlorn hope.'"
Rick Stone actually did exactly what he was told to do and that was stave off relegation then get into the top 8, he did both with a game to spare and this year his task was stability while trying to sort the squad out, he was actually doing his job well again but it was the supporters and mainly some top sponsors who put pressure on the club to terminate his employment or they would withdraw their backing so i was told.

| Rick stone did nothing any different to what Anderson did- he made no changes to structure and improved us in no way that I could see. Could argue our defence got worse. His signings were uninspiring. We avoided the drop by the skin of our teeth. Yes we’ve had a lot of injuries- but he did little to counteract that either. On top of that he made us abysmal to watch.. I reckon we would have avoided the drop with Anderson in much the same way.

And so far neither has Thorman. One point from a possible eight is hardly a great start, but niether is it long enough to judge him, He does deserve a chance at it, but there is no way i would give him the job until he proves he can do it.
Personally i would rather he concentrate on doing that than giving interviews and telling us how well he gets on with the board. If he's any good it will show on the field.

| what confuses me is why we didnt pursue as closely as possible (fitness permitting) the squad & formation that ran the Rhinos so close after the France debacle
It would have been just reward and a further confidence booster to lads who worked their socks off to compete with one of the top teams -- but no --lets play the musical chairs team selection gambit again ---and we aint half good at that !! How the hell can you maintain team spirit and an understanding between players when you have to play the better paid "names"
Another failing is bringing in kids into a struggling side--I know -got to cos of injuries !
But they need nursing along gradually and getting some leadership fromtheir elders
Its a tough sport and seasoned pro thugs like to show whos boss.
I know of some ex players who made it clear to these opponents that if they crossed the line with the young
`uns it wouldnt get unnoticed!! Everyones got to learn the ropes but a big jump up to supereleague too quickly can really knock the confidence of promising youngsters . At the moment itt seems as a club weve little alternative which to me indicates a serious failing in the organisation that needs addressing urgently before tagents come calling The better ones are then lost to glamour clubs and alll the good groundwork is wasted .Seen it too many times!!

The “musical chairs” was necessary due to injuries and the fact we had played again three days later and some had already played ill or injured.
I’m sure otherwise that would have been the case.
As for the young uns- you appear to be contradicting yourself in that you want to keep a winning side, and want to keep the youngsters but don’t want us to keep playing them. Sadly that’s not what youngsters want- they want to play.
Please point out the “many” “better ones” we have lost to glamour clubs- I’m not aware of many ex giants who’ve made it at other clubs Connor T King

Sorry Jools obviously misled you
1 THE younguns may WANT TO play - thats good but I`m saying that the ideal structure is to introduce them into a teamthats going well with senior players setting an example - not throwing them to the Lionsin a struggling team out of desperation. Hows that going to develop them and give them confidence ? You wouldnt pitch the best 18 year old at Longwood harriers against Mo Farah
As for your second point , any good youngsters who show they can hack it in a struggling team in SL will certainly be approached Id bet if we end upin the million pound game or worse......
And if its a glamour team that comes knocking - and they want to progress - it will be a hard decision theyre facing
Thats the predicament wed be facing soon if thingsdont change sadly !

I agree with a lot of the points raised but in my opinion the one thing that is the most relevant is the present system of the play offs.Clubs at the bottom of SL cannot afford to blood young players especially with an injury crisis like the one the Giants are facing at present also players will more than likely have it written in their contracts an option to leave if a club is relegated. There is in my opinion an underlying cause at the Giants that needs to be looked at the injury problem has been going on for over 3 years and never gets any better. Some posters will blame the management Thewlis seems to be the one who gets the most stick and I find myself asking what position does he play.Personally I think we need a stronger Coach who will instil an Oz type of mentality a greater mind set designed to make the players fitter faster and stronger.I watch the warm up and it's plain to see the players that do not wish to be there and believe you me it is not too difficult to spot this.Lets face it a fit player is less likely to get injured than an unfit one.

| Huddersfield do have some of the strangest fans in Super League.
When you were not getting results early on, the 'experts' on here were demanding the head of Rick Stone and guaranteeing his removal would lead to an upturn in results. Since he's gone there's hardly been an improvement in results or performances (you even lost to hopeless Salford!) so it proves most of your fans were wrong and it wasn't all down to Stone.
Perhaps getting behind your side a bit more when you were struggling instead of moaning about the coach and you may, just may, have seen a few more wins.

No we are still not getting results. But we ARE seeing an improvement in performances. Because honestly stone had us playing an absolutely dire game plan.
When we only have 5 of our first choice squad on the field playing in their true position we are always going to struggle-even against Salford.
If Wigan has this many injuries you’d never hear the last of it.
No first choice 1,2,3,11 at all, a range of people shuffled in at 5, 6,7,9,12 and 13 due to numerous other injuries to first choice and replacements.
We haven’t seen the same team more than twice all season.
At least our interim coach is trying to do something about the issues that were glaringly obvious. He’s brought in someone to help our out of depth conditioner, brought back loan players, started to make changes to a game plan that never worked and given some excellent young players gametime.
Something a supposedly more experienced coach did not do.
He was always on a hiding to nothing with injuries over a tough Easter period. They didn’t even get chance to train the first week he was in charge.

What planet do you reside in?
Any side who losing at home so convincingly to a side as limited as Salford is clearly showing no signs of improvement. That's just you trying to kid yourself you were correct all along about Stone.
You lost by a less margin under Stone to St Helens and they are top of the league.

Yes we did- first home game in, we actually played with the team we’d trained with in pre season- without the pile more injuries we’ve had since then. We had all but Leroy, symonds and Wakeman from our first choice 17 in that saints game Leroy and symonds took no part in pre season anyway, and Wakeman only limited.
Since then we have had between 9 and 11 players on the treatment table every week (not the same 9-11 just to exacerbate the situation) and at least theee each week playing with injections
Or are you claiming that doesn’t make a difference?
Do you think that outcome would be the same had saints been without barba, swift, makinson, amor, lms, tai, peyroux, roby coming back from a three week concussion protocol having to play a full game oh and no second choice fullback or wing either so matty smith at fullback. What do you reckon?

Improvement in performance? A good point against Leeds then thumped in every other match, at no point ever looking likely to win. Sacking Stone is one thing, leaving Thorman in charge is disastrous, however nice a chap he may be.

A 62 point defeat. So are you still going to delude yourself you're seeing an 'improvement' under your interim coach or finally be honest and admit you were wrong all along and things are now far worse than under Stone?
