Smith and Ellis perhaps only missing from our strongest 17.

Unquestionably Leeds and Salford are hitting form and have momentum. Hkr will not be scared off us, so important we get some form, and more importantly confidence, as we enter middle 8s.

Confidence and the habit of winning is needed

Frustrating and depressing, stupid mistakes at crucial times. Saints spent most of the match off side too it was ridiculous. Cobb is a seriously poor ref, on the one hand I'm all for letting the game flow, but completely ignoring infringements for whole chunks of the game. Is this the future of refereeing?
But you know Brough kick for interception try, christ! Connor stupid passes when not needed. Most of our best attack seemed off the cuff stuff, not organisation and can we please come up with some plays for when we are camped on the opponents line, time and again we haven't a clue. We need to get organised in the 8's otherwise we'll get our asses kicked.

loads of effort today from the lads, not too disheartened

just too many mistakes from us and you cant give the likes of walsh and roby that much ball.

connor kicked out on the full from the start and saints scored

then ormsby failed to put the ball dead, saints scored from it

ikahififo throws the ball out and we knock on, saints scored from it

huby knock on, saints scored from it next set

but the biggest turning point was when brough kicked to jerry but swift got it instead and when full length of the field, would have gone infront if we took the right option (did brough think it was a free play? should have been back to one?)

and the try we scored but was a forward pass and also mcgillvary was scoring but ref pulled it up for obstruction, cobb was poor today


overall the game could have gone either way but no luck today and too many mistakes

Some poor decision making all the way through today. Nothing between their ears it seems.
Connor needs dropping. He now has no reason to put in his best display- and its showed the last two games. Grix gets some stick for missing one-on-ones but there were times today when Connor didn't even put himself in a position to make a tackle- let alone miss it!
As for the rest no stand out terrible overall performances- equally no great ones!

Agree with what's already been said. Thought we got back into until the turning point was Broughs brain freeze,although we had plenty of time to redeem but panicked near their line and a lack of attacking structure which has blighted us all year. Somehow we need to beat at least one of the super league teams to avoid the mpg. On that performance I'm very fearful but my glass is always half full and will be behind the lads whatever the outcome.COYG

On the plus side Symonds looks a very astute signing

Grix offers nowt on attack,the fact they kept picking him is a big contribution as to why we are bottom.

He didn't have the intelligence to be in the right place at the right time for any of saints tries today. Ok the outcome may well have been the same with Grix playing- he would have missed the tackle- but he'd have been in the right place to make one!!!!

shows what difficult position full back can be. Grix plays it pretty well. We lost the first few games last season when he was injured, and this year he has only been available for 7 starts! He is more important to our team than many experts on this site realise.

I will let others decide who is "talking poop" (very articulate) Its worth noting Grix hasnt played against Leeds this year, but what they have to do with our choice of player has no relevance.

As for the game, who was expecting a win or even a good performance?
I'm sure Stone needs more than half a week to get improvements from our players.

Firstly I agree with the Stone sentiment however;

In over 50 years of watching some great St Helens teams thats one of the worst I've seen and a weaker one than the one we put almost 50 points on at Newcastle.

Since then we've strengthened so stop this no expectation rot as Saints were there for the taking yesterday, we had the field position, opportunities and strongest team this season on parade we had enough territory to win two games just once again we don't convert our chances.

At 18-22 we were on top and looking like we could go on to win until we tried a miracle play and gave Saints a 90 metre 'freebie.'

We had two disallowed tries and a stupid obstruction when likely to score and generally didn't play too badly.

All we had to do was build pressure our pack was playing well but we had a brain explosion as we have in almost every close match this season and 'blew it.'

With all due respect to Leigh et all if we play like that in the middle 8's cut out the stupid mistakes and build pressure with good sensible kicking then we have nothing to fear.

I agree Stone is new but if he's any good then he should realise we have the basics of a decent team and the time is right when on top to grind out a result if he does nothing but install a basic game plan and stop the silly mistakes,kicking off twice out on the full for example, then we ain't got too much to fear and I expect to see improvement in the small areas in the short term otherwise why is he here ??
