There is a difference between interpretation of a rule in a range of circumstances and not policing the rules at all.

He reffed both sides the same ie played No offside rule, no markers square rule and no slowing down the PTB rule.

The problem was we did not exploit it as well as Salford

for crying out loud i don't intend doing anything and i certainly won't give up watching, i was merely offering an opinion on an internet forum about a particular referee for others to discuss...fair enough you don't think he's a bad ref others do ..this isn't about US or OUR players in OUR match it's about 1 particular referee in general.

Daz - Durham is one of those fans whos happiest when he's moaning- he was here all the time at the start of the season then he was one of those we were discussing were nowhere to be seen- suddenly he's back.
It was probably 1997 when he last said anything positive about Hudds.

The point i am making is simple.
THERE IS NO POINT IN BLAMING THE REF like the players do.

You just have to get on with it and play the game.
Watch the opposition if they are getting away with something then copy it.
It's not rocket science.

I just think all this blame the ref gubbins from fans and players alike is missing the point.

The team has to do the following things all of which are more important and CONTROLLABLE by the team than the ref.

Pass properly
Catch the ball properly
Hold onto the ball properly
Move up in defence and dont sit back
Run onto the ball.
Cut down on silly penalties
Concentrate for 80 minutes ( maybe for 70 or 60 or 50 maybe even 40 )
Yesterday we managed a couple of periods where we concventrated for at least 3 minutes before we dropped the ball

These are basic things that we cannot seem to do.



STOP whinging at the ref ( usually counter productively) and concentrate on our game.

I have complained about our inability to concentrate for a long time however.

I do like to challenge those know it alls who are happy to sing when we are winning and dont address fundamental issues that need to be addressed.

Well you don't know all-and you have completely missed the point.I was at the game and discussing the ref with Daz at the end of the game- he said then- it's not the refs fault we lost, he's still saying- it's not the refs fault we lost. What he and others are saying is that child wasn't very good at the job he is paid to do.

I now question Durham, do you wish our sport to remain this way. One of the most famous Union players in recent history stating League is more enjoyable than union. Because they way you want the SL teams to play won't let this happen.

i appreciate what you're saying but i think you've gone off course a bit,
no one is blaming the referee for losing to Salford, personally, i never blame a referee for any defeat unless it's something as obvious as say Broughy's drop goal vs saints.

it's a discussion about the standard of referee's and James Child in particular.

we all know that the referee's don't drop balls or miss tackles, most of us who have commented on this are the first ones to pull people up who do, nobody is claiming that we would have won had it not been for the referee on friday night.

The discussion is not about the rules it is how our players respond to them.

Do you want our players to get on with the game and try and win whether the ref is crap or not or whether the interpretation of the rules is different from one week to the next , do you want them to behave like kids ina playground, " please sir i want a penalty because Mr nasty Salford player is holding me down"
Or do you want them to play to whatever is in front of them stop crying like spoilt babies and get on with trying to win.

Been following this debate with a great deal of interest and like Daz, Meast, Jools have stated the non application of the rules, offside at the PTB and laying on, by Mr Child was shocking but in no way caused the Giants to lose as we found numerous ways to shoot ourselves in the foot.

However I can see the point DG is trying to get across when other teams play the game according to how the rules are being applied and was thinking on Friday night that Baloo should have got the message out for us to do the same.

I am in complete agreement that no team should have to adapt to the referees interpretations but sometimes needs must, in fact I can remember reading an article by Ellery Hanley when Wigan were wining everything in sight year in year out, and though Wigan were head and shoulders above all the other teams at the time, they left nothing to chance and Ellery stated that they did their homework on all the referees, and knew all their idiosyncrasies and what they could get away with depending on who the ref was.

Childs is a clown! Grade e for chase a grade c for weller.....

bentham gave him a run for his money today! it's getting worse, along with our frustrating performances!

And if I remember correctly he just played on at the cowardly chase incident and when told by the touch judge what had happened it was put on report but not even a penalty was given. A complete buffoon who should be nowhere near a whistle. Give him a flag and leave it at that.
