| Ferguson steady away- didn't really kick on last year and take his chances. Eden shedloads of errors but could be a gem. Don't you remember the howlers from him when we played at your spot? After he dropped that ball it all unravelled, as did the season!

| Quote ="brearley84"Quote ="jools"Murphy didn't manage the defensive line at widnes- that's what lost us the game- their tries came from kicks and out defence failed to deal with it- caufht twice out if position. Neither do I think he has the skills to help out the attack. Good under the high ball is the only one I'd definitely say he's better than the other two.'"
blaming murphy for the loss at widnes
he didnt start at full back remember..think he was full back in the second half after edens nightmare at full back in the first half.
our team by then was a waste of time anyway the season was already over for me.'"
Murphy did start at Full back in that game, was NB selection at its most puzzling, Brown out so put Cudjoe to loose, moved George in to centre, Eden on Wing and Murphy at Full Back. I recall it like Jools, Murphy was very hesitant with grubbers, three tries scored from grubbers in that game. In fairness I put a lot of that down to the plastic pitch which in fairness Widnes used well.
On the plus side Murphy was rock solid in the wet at Odsal, which does suggest his issues at Widnes were pitch related.
Full back for next season? I would like Eden, but if he is off it has to be Grix, Murphy may be best defensively but just doesn't add enough to attack for me. In the modern game that is so important.

| If Greg is going I am very disappointed-and it could come back to haunt us. Greg isn't the finished article and IMO Thorman (who is to be backs coach) could bring him on masses.

yes your right that was it...plenty of shuffling about.. eden was on the wing and was subbed after the first half.

| Hope it's all tosh but I did say that we don't give the kids a chance and Eden would be next on his way out, didn't think it would be this quick though!!!
Crazy if true cos he has the potential to be better than Hardaker is proving at Leeds and as good as Tomkins is.
If he does go then Murphy should be fullback next season, Grix was shocking at times last year and dare not attempt catching the high ball in a couple of games he found himself at fullback.

| Very different conditions at odsal- the kicking game was limited due to the conditions and the state of the pitch. Bradford showed he had a safe pair of hands, widnes showed his organisation was poor.
People have very short memories. Grix won supporters player of the year playing full back- the only time I remember him messing up in that way that year was at cas -and it looked very much like that ball was stripped by chase anyway. He had got so much stick on here and elsewhere it's not surprising his confidence was shot.

We have to have a smaller squad this year. some players have to g as they are surplus. Who else do you want to ship out instead. Should we keep Eden and Molloy and just say to Mullally, or Taai or Kopczak sorry we are cancelling your contracts there is no room at the inn.
Murphy and Grix are as good as Eden at full back and cover more positions. Also Anderson maybe does not have enough time to blood new players as after last season he needs experience and to get back to winning ways quickly

so which off our current players would you like to get rid of first then.
All of the Huddersfield academy lads have to stay to meet current SL rules ( they are mainly backs) so which of the forwards should we have not signed or which of the two backs i have mentioned should we get rid off Grix or Murphy ( you could also include Wardle or Blackmore.)
There is a difficult balancing act about Salary cap. I guess Blackmore is on a much lower wage remember Eden got a big pay rise after being identified as the new Billy slater.
Eden plays Full back and possibly winger ( but did not do so well at winger.)
Murphy plays Full back, wing and was a centre at wakey
Grix full back and half back

We can sell eden I somehow dont think we would be able to get hkr to take murphy.

| I recall us being told Kevin Brown last year at the time of the Lunt loan and Kevin Brown trransfer that this was cap management which would allow us to tie up key young players such as Fairbank and Eden.
At that time I put my disappointment to one side as I accepted these decisions are required. What is worse I defended the decisions on that basis
Agree with Jools, I can't see anyone taking Murphy on the level of wages that must have tempted him from Wakey, good squad player, not a top 4 first choice at Full back, centre or wing imo. Players who are capable of great things or huge errors may win big games on their day, average squad players will take you to mediocrity.

| Jools and GIant Dee you need to start a Anderson, Purtill and THorman out thread then as their opinions differ widely from yours.
Murphy played well in every game and posoition he had too last season with the exception of Widnes.
He was an exceptionally solid player when playing on the wing and had good games at Full back. If he had been given a run in one position over a few games we would have seen how god he was.
Eden's positional play was awful on may occasions at full back and he is not as fast as some people seem to be making out.
I am with the current coaches on this one as opposed to the last coach who said he was the new Billy Slater

| His speed was dissapointing at times
And Edens positional play was lacking at times
But his awareness in attack, linking play and broken play running was outstanding
I've said this before and got slated for it, but Murphy is solid, reliable and very boring. A great squad player, never a first choice IMO.
Grix at FB with Eden as his understudy
Jerry and George on the wings with Murphy as backup.
Murphy ain't that fast either...

| Murphy is a good solid squad player - but nothing exceptional.
Eden is young and has masses of potential and I'd be disappointed if we didn't try to do something with that over the next 12 months.
The role of the full back is changing, eden has the potential to fit those changes

| My point is Eden has bags and bags of talent and potential, so he didnt become the greatest FB ever after 6 months and lo and behold , made mistakes - which young kid starting out in the game doesn't. is that a reason to ship him out? wil he not learn about positional sense and practise catching the ball better ??? what do you expect the finished article after 10 games? come on get real and FWIW i would get rid of Grix and Murphy before Eden.
Thing is someone mentioned Blackmore but isnt this just a carbon copy of the Eden signing ?? young lad from cas, meant to be a future project?
The only mistake Greg Eden made that i can see is taking his chance and impressing when he got it, as that meant he had to keep up that standard in every game or get shot to pieces - as he has done !

| All the best full backs make mistakes, Billy Slater more than anyone. It's the brilliance he has that people forget. One day Eden could be very near to that.

| Certainly a strange one, on the 29th May it was announced he had signed a contract extension till end of 2015. A lots happened since then.
I would be more than relieved to learn that hes gone on a season long loan, but is that the case? Would he then come back? Maybe its just be balancing the books? Is Blackmore a better prospect? Is it just Andersons opinion of the player, if so in him you have to trust as head coach, albeit I don't necessarily agree, I trust his judgement if thats what it is.

| If this is a loan then brilliant, a masterstroke from the coaching staff to get Gregg some first team SL action this year rather than at Batley, if this is a sale then i will seriously be doubting Andersons decision.
I cant remember the last time i saw such a young, raw, talented exciting player in the claret and gold. To me, Gregg has all the assets to be a top player, similar to a Tomkins type and i think we should be shaping our team around lads like him.
Time will tell but i hope this is confirmed soon!!

Why would Hull KR make a cash offer if it's a loan ?
