| I was never one for the drum but to be honest it's the only time we make much noise lately when Big G bangs his drum.

How often do we sing without big G banging his drum, next to none. The songs we have dont last long enough for large amounts of people to join in, a drum would rally everyone to sing and keep timing which i noticed a lot of our fans dont have e.g this weekend our fans could not even sing oh when the giants right. Until we get a drum we will not generate a consistantly good atmosphere. Tell me one club who has a good set of fans who sing consistantly through a game without a drum?

| Drum is good, I think that atmosphere in the ground was great at the Hull FC game, when Big G came into the stand - that was great.

| Nobody should ever be allowed to play a musical instrument inside a stadium unless they're a professional musician. You only have to hear the godawful noise produced by the tone deaf numpties who insist on playing the same bar of the theme from The Great Escape or The Italian Job at England football matches to see that.

| But they do create a atmosphere dont they, people join it. It is very easy to play a drum and get a tune and a beat which you want.

| If they're so easy to play why do Town fans constantly complain about Ian and Liam hitting that thing they do????
I can't stand drums, they hinder atmosphere rather than create it!

| got to disagree about the no songs bit - we have loads of songs but as no one knows them or joins in they dont get used, and liek has been said - the songs fade out too quickly cos no one joins in !.
As for the drum - NO ! who ever says drums help atmosphere were obviously not at Wigan where they banged a drum constantly for 80 mins with no one joining in singing !
Yeah Big G does help for the 1st couple of times but after that it becomes annoying as its the same thing for the rest of the game and people get bored of doing it then

I find it funny when people look at you when you sing one of the older songs.
But then again that may be because of my singing.
Don't forget that guy infront of me who had a go at me for being loud and singing.

| We need new songs i can count only 6 songs which we have which is rubbish so dont say we have a lot because we dont, every time someone comes up with a new song it is just met with sigh's and complaints sing it and see how it goes. One of the main problem with our so called singers is that they would rather sing songs to each other than about the team, you may disagree but i never miss a game and this does happen. We need to start putting some effort in, if we beat the crusaders the away leg will be perfect to start new songs. Less negativity and more positivity if not we will go nowhere. Also why dont you pop down to the Supporters Assosiation we can start to come up with ideas then.

| FFS. There are more important things going on at the moment than your own inflated opinion on whether or not we have enough songs. It's gone beyond tiresome. I can remember 10 years ago when there were less than half the numbers but the atmosphere was better and we all sang along. It's already been explained why it's not as good at the moment yet you just repeat the same old guff, over and over.
You want less negativity yet see nothing wrong with criticising on here. So called singers this, not enough songs that.
In 5 days we have a massive game you know. Huge game. Much more important.

Rubbish, i could sing 10 songs that we have sung in the past - the problem is not with the amount of songs its the amount of voices singing them .
I go home from every game with no voice and i have done for 25 years nearly now whereas the majority of people have never done that.
Part of the problem too is we have situations where the younger ones at the back dont know the song that the 'older' ones are singing so just resort to singing something different over the top - usually der der der der - insert players name here - or Fartown Fartown which is far too fast and rushed.
and lets stop the Barmy army chant and get it back to how it should be - claretgold army !!

Now you see thats what i like to hear fans who put some effort in, if we can just get some of the younger ones as you say to learn the songs then we are up and running, we need more than one tune and start to sing proper songs even if they have not been as common over the last few years. I myself am only 18 but i always join in on the songs no matter what, nothing beter than getting behind the team as it does make a difference.
Danril have a touched a nerve with you or somthing because i will tell you somthing this is a issue that does need sorting out as it could hinder the growth as a club. If what your saying is sort this out later, well how much later we need to act now.

| What I'm saying is that you're just repeating what you and many others have said before on here time and again and basically insulting those of us who have been there and done it. You're belittling the singers that have been following the club for 20 years plus and that were once your age and are now rapidly approaching the land of wrinkles and grey pubes whilst totally ignoring reasoning suggested for why the atmosphere can be a little flat at times. You've not actually suggested anything constructive at all. So let me tell YOU something. If you honestly think giving it the Big Mister on here, making inferences about people not putting the effort in etc is going to change it then you're kidding yourself. Suffice to say you haven't put me in the singing mood. If you think taking action is posting complaints on a message board where many of the posters are the ones who've sang their hearts out with the best of them for Christ knows how long then you're kidding yourself.
Yes it would be great if we all blew the frigging roof off from minute one to eighty but it's going to take more than a drum and a song sheet to achieve that.

| Giving it the "Big Mister" dear me, i can understand you have read this a lot but i cant understand why you have such a problem with other fans trying to make a difference, im sure in the past you have sang etc but you have to be honest with yourself the atmosphere at the Galpharm is utter rubbish gives, and dont pretend it isnt. It may be due to the fact that i love to sing at Town games and i want to carry on theat with the Giants games as i know if we dont we will lose the younger generations as especially young lads enjoy a good sing sondg etc fo they may wel ditch rugby and go to Football. I am looking at the bigger picture rather than just now, however we need to start to change how things are.
Dont have a go at me for saying what i think, i dont care how old you are age is not a issue the issue is how to get fans to sing and create a atmosphere and if all your going to do is have a go at me and the other fans for wanting some change well i feel sorry for you mate as im sure you want the best for the club but maybe you are doing it the wrong way. But a few ideas never hurts anyone.

| I'm doing it the wrong way? And criticising folk on a message board is the right way is eh? I think you need to check your own posts before you get all precious if I 'have a go at you'. Feel sorry for yourself, not me. You're the new generation of fan and you don't even know all the songs! You seem to have confused 'trying to make a difference' with 'lecturing people on a message board'.
A drum wont work. Half the people hate them, as this thread has shown. A song sheet wont help because the singing section of the crowd is peppered out now as the crowds have grown and the newer ones are recalcitrant with regards to singing. The problem isn't going to be solved by lecturing people on here, is it. You need to find a way to engage these quiet, misery guts type fans so that they choose to get involved. How do you do that then, Einstein? Find the answer to that one and you will get what you want.
It's easy to say things need to change but it's going to take more than a drum and a song sheet. ATEOTD you're the new generation so stop moaning and start doing. We old farty types do our bit and have done for years.

| Sorry but i am attempting to help, what you mean when i said the singing section dont sing enough, well they dont its just fact. I have supported Huddersfield all my life and i do know all the songs thank you very much, whats wrong trying to help the club, the whole point of forums is to discus these kind of things aint they? In the past i have sugested certain singing sections where everyone should sit etc and a few seam up for it yet most dont want change yet expect somthing to happen and it wont until we do this as a group as big as possible which im sure you will agree with. I dont understand why you are having such a go at me when i have not done anything wrong, i have only said what a lot of people think. saying our fans dont sing enough is true and you dont seam to be able to live with it. No need to have a go at me.

| Eaton makes a valid point about the lack of atmosphere at many home games. maybe it is something that the supporters association can look at.
I often feel torn about whether to go to away games where there is a MUCH better atmosphere due to SINGING or to go to home games and financially support MY Club.
I know my nephew who has had a season ticket for the last five years would rather go to watch Town becuase of the better atmosphere even though he prefers rugby to football.
For all the kids who sit in the riverside stand at some games other than what goes on the pitch it is about as exciting as going to school. This will not win us fans in the future. For a lot of kids what goes on off the pitch is as important or even more important than what goes on it. We have a good competitive team but still the atmosphere is as flat as a fart regularly.
My liitle ones who are 4 and 6 go to games because i take them. they like to see tries and something exciting on the pitch BUT are far more interseted in cheerleaders, singing, sweets, mascots etc. The little one really wants to go to the CAS game next year becuase he wants to see the Tiger.
On Sunday when we were at Perpignan they loved seeing the two Dragons and joined in singing Allez catalans. They were absolutely made up at the end being able to shake hands with Brett Hodgson and Kevin Brown ( both of whom were really good with the kids and who came across as being very child friendly). Yet at home games the players tend to go over to the Britannia stand and applaud the fans where they obviously get the most support from. The trouble is the fans in the Britannia stand would go to games win lose or draw. It is the kids in the Riverside who need to be won over to keep them coming back.
Where i sit Tansey and me sing all the time. One or two others join in. I often see younger kids joining in and looking around at us. they want to be part of what is going on . However, there parents do not join in and the kids they soon become self conscious and stop and look embarrassed when they realise they stick out like a sore thumb. whilst that level of self consciousness may not affect adults like me for many others it does. I sometimes think the half hearted singing exacerbates this problem.
The club has a policy aim of winning over kids but seems to have little strategy on how to do this.
I am certain that the club are missing a trick here.
There are answers to some of this most of which have been aired on here before , and all the points i have raised here have been mentioned to the club ad nauseum.
Without winning new fans, the club has no long term future. Eatons comments reflect that feeling unfortunately.
