| Quote ="wigsey"Good luck with the world club challenge. An away game against a vastly superior side. This year's Wigan side is probably the worst since the 1981 relegation season. they have 16 start at the bookies.
And before we get the response we did it in 1994 take a look at that team. From memory there was Connolly, Robinson, Offiah,Edwards, Botica, Dermot, Betts, Farrell and Clarke. Wigan legends.
Of the current team only Lockers is in anywhere near that category and Charnley maybe one day.
Wigan will win nothing this year and that's from a born and bred Wiganer.
You've lined yourself up for a big fall and you are going to get one.'"
Wow strong words. I just hope the players don't see this, they maybe mentally scared by your harsh words.
Truth is yes we do have our work cut out for us when we play Sydney, for many reasons. As long as the lads turn up and give it their all there's not much more a fan can ask.
Worse team since 1981? We were floating around the bottom 3 in the 2006 season (could have been 2005), whereas this 2014 team is pretty much the same team which did the double, but I guest you have your reasons for thinking the team is so poor.
Either which way your comments are now on a completely different topic, the thread was discussing Wigan v Hudds, now you seem to want to talk about the history of Wigan RL and the WCC.

I think he should probably have gone at the time, which would have been SOS in my book. I'm surprised at penalty sufficient but not bothered; it's a physical game, I don't think Bowen meant to hurt him. I just hope the in-breds remember the decision the next time it is against them.

based on Fridays performance I think that with them fielding a second string you might stand a slight chance after all they don't seem to be taking it too seriously.

I feared longer so quite pleased with 12 weeks, may even be less the way RL players work at recovery programme's.

| yep 12 weeks for larne, last season it was lawrence who had the long lay off... and we lost odonnell, these early wins come at a cost!
lucky we have chan as a direct replacement but a shame for patrick.. will he lose some speed with this type of injury?? sounds similar to what kirmond did, torrens and de vere.
as for bowen not getting anything, what a joke. The rfl the week before said they were going to come down hard on things like this yet he gets away with that and all the giants get is a penalty.
hope the favour is returned when our players go up on report
as for the big 4 debate, i regard us as one of those now, constantly up there in the league and playoffs.

| There's some right tosh on here about what Wigan's team and squad think, but can't say.
Fact is it's this is a game of sport and if teams pick and chose whether they can be bothered to play or not they might as well give up the game and do a regular job.
Honestly, some right tripe coming out.....

| Clearly had Grix not had a beard they would have seen it wasn't his shoulder he hit but the neck, nothing surprises me with the RFL disciplinary committee, had Wigan been playing a SL game (you know the games that mean nothing) the penalty awarded may have been different.

The 2006 team were favourites for the title until Millward worked his magic and nearly got the club relegated. That was a better squad than today's
As for the same as the double winning side, no it's not. No Sam Tomkins (one of the best five ever players to wear the shirt), no Pat Richards, No Harrison Hansen,No Mossop to name a few. All replaced with inferior players (just as carmont, leuluai and Lima were the previous year.
As for off topic. You started it

That's not as bad as it could have been. Dislocated kneecap and medial ligament damage.
Cruciate ligament damage and it could have been at least a couple of months longer.
Anyway we all know nothing is for real until at least September so he should be back and firing on all cylinders by then.

| Could have been worse for Larne, fingers crossed he's a good healer because he's at an age where he should have his best years ahead of him and hopefully with us.
Surprised & unsurprised at Bowen getting nothing. Had the next game been a standard league game I feel he'd have gotten a match for it but that's just my opinion. What isn't opinion is that it was a late, high shot to a player without the ball. So for it to be penalty sufficient is, to me, a bit spurious.

| Though it sounds bad he will recover much better from a dislocated knee cap than Cruciate damage. I have had both injuries, to different knees, my left knee doesn't bother me much and I was back playing after a 2-3 month break. ACL injury though still bothers me and has resulted in 4 surgeries over 20 years (ok that was two injuries part tear followed by snapping it second time around.
As far as Larne is concerned this is better than it could have been.

| It may not matter to a few Wigan fans. Just as the WCC won't matter in a couple of weeks to Rooster who are using the game as a pre-season friendly.
Come the end of the season if 2 points are the difference to Wigan between 12th and 13th it will matter at that point.
Maybe it doesn't matter to Lenagan too? Otherwise he wouldn't have sold the crown jewel and many if the key players.

The Wigooner is a complete and utter ****** A real halfwit, hope he's happy with his ludicrous comments. Does he really believe a serious knee injury doesn't matter and is no big deal to a pro sportsman what a ******
However long it takes I hope Larne has a full recovery and comes back as strong as ever.

| Does the added arrogance come with winning the Grand Final ? Wigan fans are going down the route we used to get from the Rhinos lot !
or does it still hurt the so-called big teams to see how far we have come and we're not the easy beats they were used to in the past ??

| I usually find Rhino's arrogance comes with a confidence & hint of humour. Wigan's just shows an insularity, paranoia & lack of confidence.

| Quote ="Grimmy"Why? Since 2006 both trophies have always been won by Leeds, Wigan, Warrington and Saints. Those same four teams have also occupied 4 of the top 6 spots since 2008 and contested all Grand Finals since 2007. Same story since the millennium really except Bradford used to be a force rather than Warrington, Hull won a Challenge Cup and made a Grand Final, and we lost the plot in 05-06.
I'm not saying Huddersfield will never break into that group but surely you can see it exists. The bookies certainly agree with what I'm saying looking at the Grand Final Winner odds. Having said that I hope you do break into that category by winning one of the two trophies because having the same four teams winning everything every year isn't good for the competition.'"
Your choice of 2006 is purely arbitrary. A bit earlier and you quite rightly include Bradford.
A bit earlier and you could include...
As far as RL is concerned, Huddersfield's record is up there with the rest - and better than the vast majority.

| Come on guys! As far as the 2013 season is concerned, Wigan deserve nothing but credit for winning the Grand Final and Challenge Cup, and Huddersfield deserve nothing but credit for winning the League Leaders Shield, but 2013 is gone now. 2012 and earlier is even more gone!
Huddersfield deserve credit for beating Wigan in the first game of the 2014 season, but it's very early days yet - I'm pretty sure both teams will win more than they lose this season.
(PS. I'm a Huddersfield supporter but wish Wigan well in the World Cup Challenge)

| After all the tripe thats been posted recently and in the past by Wigan and Leeds fans - the Daily Mail reports Gary Hetherington (Leeds) but also an ex player in last Sat edition as follows :- (quote)
[i:nw9zvcb4[iOur goal is to be consistent, which is difficult in itself, but ultimately we`re here to be successful and that means winning silver ware.
Our FIRST goal is to be League Leaders because in many ways thats the TOUGHEST ACHIEVEMENT[/i (acknowledgement to Daily Mail and Neil Barraclough)
So obviously I take it that had it been Leeds w were playing last week THEY are just that bit more professional than the Pies (according to the visiting dumbos) - and THEY wouldnt have taken it as a no importance game ??
HTH!
