| Chan never went back on,neither did Brough or Bruno after first half.
Some of the forwards who have played first grade did not impresseemed like they werre going thru the motions at times.problems if the big name forwards get injured.
What could have Got out of the second half no idea, couldnt get out of own half so no Link up play possible.
Best player on show for us was Kopczak.

He certainly was, played very well.
I wouldn't be too concerned if I was a Hudds fan, it's only pre-season after all...but: your attack was pretty rusty and predictable if im honest, and that accounts for the reason why you didn't score a point. It was poor attacking play as opposed to superb defence.
What was worrying for you lot though is that once Brough went off you were terrible, but I understand you had 6/7 players out and the rotation in the forwards didn't help as they didn't have the same impact as your starting props. You made some sloppy errors and just couldn't win any territory. But it's one of the first hit outs so that's expected really.
It should be a different score line on the 2nd Feb!

| More fuel for the fire of those that have turned their backs and will be watching batley this year. Could have been worse as saints had three ruled out. A pretty meaningless game on he face of it but won't do much for the confidence of those fickle fans, lets hope it doesn't affect the composure of those delicate players!
It will be a different focus in two weeks time.

| Good news that kopzchak look good before being taken off
seems our attack wasnt up to much which is a worry brough/robinson combo hmmm early days...also the amount of pens we conceded!! lack of discipline? hope not, had enough of that last season, 5 were for not playing the ball correct!
oh well onto next week when we get a few more big guns back and at home

| i would not worry about it .
Th only thing that does seem an issue is that none of our forwards could make any head way in the second half.
WE may have been missing some of our big hitters but they had Perry and puletua out so it evens things out a bit.
I heard Walmsley did OK for saints

You conceded 5 penalties for incorrect play the ball alone. The lack of discipline and threat in attack stood out in my opinion, I know it doesn't mean much in a friendly, but that was your downfall last night.

| Happy to hear Channy is going to be relatively okay, when they were shouldering him around the perimeter to the sheds it didn't look good at all.He had made a lively start.
Scoreless in the end,but we came within an inch of scoring under the sticks on a couple of occasions in the first half but that was the sum total of our threat.
Think what must disappoint PA most is the performance of certain fringe forwards who have had SL experience. It's all good training the house down, but it's not much use if it's not transferred onto the pitch. There were none there imho who laid down a marker that they couldn't be left out of the 17 for the round 1 game. Some could do with a touch of the 'angry young man' or 'psycho' in their game now. Some of the old failings of poor first up contact was evident too.
If it was just about fitness then fair enough but this is a two tier league now, need to be showing something when up against the top sides even in a trial/friendly.
We badly need the likes of LOD back, and Ukuma can't arrive quick enough now.
Loads of handling errors from both sides plus we need to play the ball correctly this season,no rolling it backwards through the legs.

| Have to be honest, I thought Hudds were pretty poor last night. First half you weren't to bad, first 20 in particular it was an even game, but Saint's pack took over towards the back end of the first half.
Discipline around the play the ball was poor from your lot last night, 5 penalties given against you in that area. Kopczak played pretty well, and Robinson did his best behind a beaten pack, but your lack of threat in attack and discipline let you down last night. You went close a few times, but Saints defence was superb tbf.
However, I wouldn't take to notice of last night if I was you, you are a far better team that what you shown last night, and I expect a completely different game in February. You can't judge a team off a pre season friendly, so keep your chins up.
Saw a couple of your fans behind me in the West last night, full credit to them for making the trip over.

That wasn't the story though. James Child - whistleblower obsessive - was picking on PTBs last night which suggests that might be the penalty flavour of the first couple of months. Hudds were dinged for five PTB offences but they played them just as they were played last season. Saints also were dinged for a couple of PTB offences and only one would have been classed as an offence last season. If I were a Hudds fan I wouldn't worry about discipline on the basis of that match. James Child was practising his whislte blowing technique, as usual.
I thought Hudds looked more structured than Saints in attack during the first half. The second half was a mix and match half for both sides as that is when a lot of the subs were played.
Hudds did cross the line once but whoever it was who got across dropped the ball. Everyone was rusty and the point of trial games is to sort out those rusty bits. It was a good hit out for both teams and won't be an indication of what will happen during our proper match in a few weeks' time!

Don't agree with your comment regarding the Hudds attack, they had the majority of the field position in the first half and didn't cause any problems, although Saints did defend well.
Child's was looking for errors at the PTB last night, so you would have thought the play the ball area will be the focus of referees attention come the start of the season.

| Having attended last night the down fall mentioned above at the PTB was a real issue for us and we did not seem to learn the lesson quickly enough - ref was pretty consistent on this for both sides - although tbf 95% of PTB's are not correctly completed in any RL game
Good hit out for both sides and not sure what you can really determine from the result - will be different in Feb game.
However what did stand out was that both sides were pretty good defensively - Saints were very good in this respect. The difference for mine was the attacking prowess and Saints had the bigger edge here. Soliola was immense (hope Tai is as good) and their variation from the PTB and running lines in open play created the chances to score.
Would be happier with last nights display if I were a Saints fan - but given our absentees and the amount of changes made we went OK overall.
Hoping to see further imnprovement against Widnes next up - COYG!!!

| Friendlies should mean a hell of a lot to someone who is supposedly pushing to get into the first 17,but last night that attitude was not evident, okay if you are an established first grader its just about getting your fitness, but as I said previous, none of the fringe who have played first grade previous impressed me,souch so that already I feel if we pick up injuries to the likes of Eorl,Ferres to name but 2,then their replacements are not going to be up to replacing them in any shape or form.
That is what friendlies should be about, not meaningless.

| From the comments on our board, quite a few fans where very happy with the younger Saints forwards, Hand and Greenwood. Some suggesting that they could give Perry a run for his money. I don't buy into that as 20 mins in a mixed up friendly is not the same as battle hardened experienced forwards. But at least it means they are keen to step up, if the SL season is a warm for the playoffs, then there is a good arguement to sprinkle one of those youngster, early on in the season. With that enthusiasm in games that are less meaning full it will allow the top dogs the occasional week for recouperation, so they are still fresh come CC and playoffs

| The results of friendlies are meaningless. Friendlies in themselves are meaningful or clubs wouldn't play them. PA said this was an opportunity for players to stake a claim for the Widnes game and they were all excited about getting onto the pitch again.
According to Sheepridge Giant sounds like few have not fully taken the opportunity this time but it's early days and still all to play for regarding getting in that first 17. The Saints game will have proved invaluable to PA as he now has a good idea of where improvements need to be made. I expect an improvement next week from those that played v Saints.

agree with sheepbridge, for some this was an opportunity for them to show what they have and to put themselves with a chance of making the first game v saints..sounds like they didnt take it!
cording? ferguson? murphy? dawson? mullally? blackmore?
all above need to be busting a gut unless they fancy batley. we will see who didnt impress when they are dropped next week for others to come in

There were plenty of penalties for other "offences" too and Huddersfield's ill-discipline/the ref penalizing them (which ever it was), was their main downfall.

| The positives out of this trial, were firstly that Kopczak proved how valuable he is going to be for our go forward.Just had a couple of short spells but already showed he will be a good signing.
When we did get some field position in half one and we shifted it,there were always decoy runners in motion.Robinson is going to play at first receiver as they said he would, with Brough playing stand off half.Robbo threw a clever no look pass to one of the lead runners which was good to see from my pov,as that has to be a important attacking option when up against the best defences.
Dawson looks a lively kid on the right wing, but don't see him ousting McGillvary yet as the Jez metres on our exit sets are too vital. He took one bellringer when he went sideways in front of our sticks though.
Lunt certainly livened up the dummy half area when he came on.
We were getting 3 men into the tackle in the early minutes and one always sliding down the body to take the legs.
So some good signs in the early stages.
We know that Nathan can coach defence though, and that was evident.
