Coming from a footballing background I started watching rugby the season we got promoted to super league - so pre SL I really don't know much about players & coaches etc.

So could someone please tell me why people are saying he is supposed to be so bitter?

He was given the coaching job but was dismissed after 13 games winning 3? as he didn't have the right coaching qualifications. Tbf none of those who came after did any better-but he was very critical about it, took giants for unfair dismissal -at the time the fans were behind him -but since it became clear that his man management skills were abysmal and the coaching thing was an excuse to get shut.

He is not right. You can be a very good team and not win silverware. Garry knows this as he spent his entire career in good teams that never won anything



There is so much more to TGG than mere pots in the cabinet.

It is sad that the RL press / national press think so little of the game that they go to this dimwit for comment.

His coaching skills have come on so much since leaving Fartown that only 2 years ago he applied for a job coaching an amateur team in the Yorkshire League. Needless to say he didnt get it!

Think he won a Yorkshire Cup Winners Medal with us (Hull) in 1984. Could have also had a Challenge Cup Winners Medal in 1985, but missed some conversions late on.

A very good player for Hull, but left for Leeds and was never forgiven by Hull fans. He's been critical of Hull over the years. It's a shame, because he was a prolific try scorer for Hull and should be held in high esteem, sadly his subsequent actions means he isn't.

He was one of the greatest players of his generation no doubt, probably one of my idols as a schoolboy just getting into the game too - his bitterness towards us since he left has never left him and thats the sad impression most of our fans are left with of him...

hes always come across to me as it were better in my day type of bloke, hes never moved with the times at all and does appear to have an over inflated impression of himself. I once went to a evening do with him as guest speaker and he spent nearly all evening slagging shaun edwards off instead of talking about rugby in general, seems like he hasnt changed at all still bitter and twisted.

As a Leeds fan the last thing i'd call Huddersfield is bottlers. I would define bottlers as a team that were expected to or should of won things, and as good as the previous 3 seasons have been i don't think Huddersfield were 'there' yet in terms of being a Grand Final team. However i think that this season they do look like one and if they can avoid injuries come playoff time they are a great looking bet to get there.
As for the 'Shut Brough down and you go a long way to stopping the Giants', well yeah you do.......but the same applies to Tomkins, Roby, Briers, McGuire etc.

Why do the press ask Schoey for his input? He was a good player in his day but since then he's done absolutely nothing. They might as well ask some tramp on a park bench with a bottle of white lightening in a brown paper bag cos that's all he's turned into.

Garry Schofield is paid to do a newspaper column, Admittedly he could trot the same old tat out that the politically correct players or coaches do in every interview nowadays, how boring is this?

I would love players to be a bit more honest without being too controversial

IMO in his article he has targetted a very good side, one that he doesn't believe will be able to reproduce their excellent form shown at present when it truly matters come the play offs

I can't personally see why you would rise to his bait and take his comments so offensively, afterall he is purely commenting on the recent past

I believe that the Giants will use all these negative articles or interviews as an extra motivation to prove their doubters wrong

IMO, i love what's going on at the Giants club, they have assembled a great squad of players which is predominantly dominated by young talented English players, this is clearly the way to go.

Only time will tell if this side has what it takes come play off time, as that is when the ball game changes

As much as I dislike the man i cant see what he has said wrong. Outside of Huddersfield I would imagine on this article most people agree with him. Until you win something i am sorry to say he is spot on.
As for why the press always run to him. well he is controversial and also highly decorated at int level so apparently knows what hes talking about. Its not so long ago that they were still going to Alex Murphy.

A lot like chalk and cheese though the difference between Alex Murphy and Schoey in what they both did for our club .
Alex Murphy got the ball rolling in that he was given the opportunity to put together a squad that finally pulled us out of the doldrums and in my opinion is the man who quite rightly got us going towards where we are today.
Schoey came with a load of G.B caps and NO COACHING BADGES whatsoever and very little idea on how to win anything then got fired and has bleated about us ever since . If only fans of other teams did some basic research eh?

I don't think it's particularly what he said but how he said it. Journalists in the past have questioned whether the giants have got what it takes and that's fair enough. But the fact that the first line said giants WILL fail (like he's some sort of rugby god ) is what has got everybody annoyed. He was also clearly clueless about where brown now plays in the side.

Sounds about right. Shaun Edwards was twenty times the player Schofield was. A true winner not a Whiner like Schofield.

to be fair he was a great player but its what he turned into after he stopped playin that grinds with us.
