| Quote ="Slugger McBatt"And equally, I'm struggling to see how Huddersfield fans think that we don't hold the stronger bargaining chip.
Answer me this question: what do Wakefield lose if we say we aren't interested? I would say nothing, because we'll lose Brough at the end of the year anyway. It must follow, therefore, that we will get only what will interest us sufficiently, which makes it seem obvious that the offers will have to come from your side, not ours. We can just say no and be no worse off.
Ultimately, there will be a deal that all sides will be happy with, because there is no need for us to agree anything that we are not happy with, as we can wait and plan and shop around. So if we don't have to agree to anything, how can we have the weaker hand? There is no detriment to Wakefield at all in not agreeing to anything, as he will leave at the end of the season anyway at the end of his contract, whether it is to you or anyone else.'"
I agree. Wakefield are releasing/pushing their only halfback and best player out midseason and unexpectedly, despite having made him 'probably' the best offer ever made to a Wakefield player [ibecause they can[/i. That is why their bargaining position is SO strong. And you only have to look at how the team at Huddersfield is currently performing without Brough in their side. They clearly need him and that is why their position is SO weak. Simples!

We have made him the best offer ever made to a Wakey player, and so hardly pushing him out. I agree with you though that I'm struggling to see why you need him, but Nathan Brown clearly wants him, and I presume you trust his judgement. Or are you saying that Wakefield approached Huddersfield to see if you could take him off our hands?

No Slugger, I'm not saying that. I don't think we've approached Wakefield at all TBH. Now I don't know anything, but I am a pretty logical and lateral thinker and I'll try and be serious for a minute. None of this thing makes any sense when you step back. It's the timing, it's all wrong.
I think the most likely scenario is that Wakefield have found out that Brough's agreed to go to Huddersfield at the end of the season and there's nothing they can do about it. They see Paul Cooke available and the possibility to sort out their pivots for next season. At the same time, they might be able to wangle a player who's OOC this year out of Huddersfield by releasing Brough early. Hell, maybe they'll even get a token payment out of Huddersfield if Nathan Brown thinks it's worth it. So everybody gets together and sees if they can thrash something out.

“Huddersfield Giants have approached us concerning Danny and we are considering what they have said to us." That's what Wakefield have said. What we did know was that he wasn't staying with us, and so it didn't really matter where he went. I agree that a consideration will be what we can get to compensate us for losing him so early in the season. If it isn't enough, I presume we will say no and make him perform his contract.

In other words, it's all meaningless and in reality we'll never know the full story.

In that case it must be true! Come on Slugger! Huddersfield have said they don't pay fees for 1st team players too so clearly no deal is going to be done!
I'd bet a pound to a pinch of sh*t that, if this does go through it's all under the counter and there'll be rumour and counter rumour about what was paid and how much he's earning for months and months.
I guess the bottom line is that it will have to suit Wakefield AND Huddersfield or the deal won't happen. And I'd be amazed if Ken rolled over for Ted when it sounds like Danny's already nailed on for 2011. We're talking about 3/4 of a season here.

| Please remain calm all you Huddersfield supporters who are completely opposed to your coaches liking for Danny Brough,do not fear.
WTW when putting details on their official website have done so for a reason, apparently, and have the offer of better players from a better club.
I can bring you the old and the new news - [url=http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/rugby/2009/05/09/wildcats-to-cut-up-brough-115875-21344556/Danny to be a Saint ??!![/url

| All this aggro over one player....comical. Great player is Danny Boy but if his head/heart is to play elsewhere then we are right to get rid.
Just be ready for him to turn what appears to be a good team spirit you guys have going right now into something a little less friendly. Might be good at the start but unfortunately DB makes enemies wherever he plays. Did you Giants fans see the way he talked/bollocked some of our younger players at KR last Friday ? A game we won and were already 31-18 up before his reaction to a dropped ball ny Morton ( which was down to DB $hit pass ) He causes unrest and if NB thinks he can handle that so be it.......
I will miss him......has had some great games for us over the years but has also had some shockers. No doubt we will find someone to fill the void - and our younger players can now train and play in peace )
Good luck..........

| thats how wakey work. why wait til end of the season and get nothing for him? makes more sense to get a transfer fee, its how they balance the books.
exactly the same happened with ryan atkins. its all about finances.
on a separate note very surprised at hudds going for him, especially on the amount of money he wants. he only really has one position and cant see what he will add to the team.
also cant play at same time as drew.

| Quote ="GiantJo"It seems most wakey fans are incapable of accepting that Brough is one of their few players with exceptional ability and that he is moving on without some huge transfer fee being paid.
Instead we get umpteen idiotic rumours / theories that the Giants are being held to ransome due to 'illegal approaches' / and the pernicious links relating to a man's private financial siuation. These people are ludicrous and some have no integrity.
You also get wakey fans bagging brough over his 'troublesome character' and yet saying not a thing about Paul Cooke
The idea that Ted is running rings around Davy is laughable.
I like the wakey claim that the giants are so desperate to get brough that they will throw money at him rather than risk losing him. What rubbish! The club could wait til the end of 2010 and take their chance. they would have a very good shout. If they do not get him maybe they will go head to head with wakey for Brett Finch? I wonder which club he would prefer?

| I don't know if DB will join you early or not, but I for one will miss watching him play. You'll never be bored when he's around, he's that kind of mercurial player. Just be aware, though, that he's not the kind of player to build a team on as he plays for DB, and also bear in mind that I've seen him in two big games (once for Cas against us, and once for us in the semi against Hull) and neither time did he rise to the occasion - quite the opposite.
I said about Atkins that I thought he could possibly move on to the next level with Wire - but I think DB is at his highest level now, and can't see for the life of me why you lot want him.
If he goes, I wish him well - after all most diamonds have some flaw.
BTW I'm more upset that we didn't try harder to keep Grix, and he looks to be doing well for you - that WAS a smart move by you guys.
