| Absolutely not. I mean one draw with a new coach and everything is fine.
There is nothing else wrong at the club. We just needed a cleave to shout at the players and tell Brough to let others play that is all that was needed.
Summer is all about one swallow.

| Quote ="brearley84"hard one because contract and signings will need to be done this season, think transfer deadline day is in may... so if a new coach comes in early he can start to assemble his squad, comes in late and hes handed a team that wasnt his like stone who had a hard job but did well in the circumstances.
the job this season is to get us in the top 8 thats it. club still rebuilding ..again!'"
Iv'e never understood this business about coaches who haven't got their own team, or they have inherited players they didn't sign.
If a coach takes on a job , he takes it on and if he's done his homework he will have researched the club and know what is what. That said, Having taken the job it's his job to get the best out of the players available until he is able to strengthen somewhat, If he is a good coach the team should progress even if slowly, If he is a very good coach the players will improve hugely, and if he is a great coach the team will be in contention for what's available. and that has been and is being done at other clubs.
Where the Giants have been unlucky is with injuries, if it is all down to bad luck, whatever it's been going on for three years now and that seems to be a long time for a streak of bad luck to last.
The bottom line is that Rick didn't do what he came to do for whatever reason and so he had to go, That's what happens in Rugby league clubs,
He's had less time than many of his predecessors but that has been a costly policy in the past on occasions. I'm hoping that the end of Rick is far from the end of the changes but i feel that is a forlorn hope.

| Feel we have to give Thorman some credit for that improved performance. Seems he has told players some home truths and had the strength of character to add 4 younger players to the 17 - 2 of which were debuts. Don't buy in to the view that an improved performance was inevitable at all. Chris has stood up to media scrutiny well and seems to have respect from the squad.
Hope he gets a chance - see how he goes for a few games before we rush any decision. If he does well then maybe bring in a Head of Rugby to mentor him.
Great to see the 4 young lads perform so well.

Sorry Durham Giant, you must have read my thread wrongly. I didn't/am not getting carried away by just one result but just think that we need to regroup and create a bit of stability within the playing squad. Whatever happens behind the scenes is up to Ken Davy but swapping and chucking coaches will not help those out on the field. Just saying that giving Chris the reins till end of season will at least give everyone someone to get behind and support.

Stone wouldn’t have put in those youngsters- he would have shuffled the usual suspects round instead.

Agreed Jools. Stone would have probably played Mellor or Roberts at Centre and stuck with Murphy on the wing. No way would have have played any of our youngsters, English wouldn't have been called back by Stone who is our youngster most deserving of a shot and should get his chance today.
Big respect to Thorman who I think has been reading some of the comments on these boards and twitter.
Honesty regarding injuries.
Moving Murphy to Centre.
Giving the youngsters a chance.
Giving the players a few home truths.
Stone was a nice guy but was too stuck in his ways. Everything Thorman has done so far since taking over has been excellent.
Id like to see Players like English, Hewitt, Senior get a few more chances this season and hopefully Thorman will give it to them.

| Sure people were saying the same about stone at start refreshing for him to be giving youngsters a chance. Easy to do when your just in temporary charge guarantee if Thorman gets the job permanent and we’re in this situation later in the season and we have a game we have to win to get in the 8 he’ll Be moving the experienced players about all coaches are the same start off like this then when hit hard times revert back to the experienced players

But I’m quite looking forward to watching today’s match. It’s been a while since I’ve said that!

Rick Stone actually did exactly what he was told to do and that was stave off relegation then get into the top 8, he did both with a game to spare and this year his task was stability while trying to sort the squad out, he was actually doing his job well again but it was the supporters and mainly some top sponsors who put pressure on the club to terminate his employment or they would withdraw their backing so i was told.

| Rick stone did nothing any different to what Anderson did- he made no changes to structure and improved us in no way that I could see. Could argue our defence got worse. His signings were uninspiring. We avoided the drop by the skin of our teeth. Yes we’ve had a lot of injuries- but he did little to counteract that either. On top of that he made us abysmal to watch.. I reckon we would have avoided the drop with Anderson in much the same way.

And so far neither has Thorman. One point from a possible eight is hardly a great start, but niether is it long enough to judge him, He does deserve a chance at it, but there is no way i would give him the job until he proves he can do it.
Personally i would rather he concentrate on doing that than giving interviews and telling us how well he gets on with the board. If he's any good it will show on the field.

| what confuses me is why we didnt pursue as closely as possible (fitness permitting) the squad & formation that ran the Rhinos so close after the France debacle
It would have been just reward and a further confidence booster to lads who worked their socks off to compete with one of the top teams -- but no --lets play the musical chairs team selection gambit again ---and we aint half good at that !! How the hell can you maintain team spirit and an understanding between players when you have to play the better paid "names"
Another failing is bringing in kids into a struggling side--I know -got to cos of injuries !
But they need nursing along gradually and getting some leadership fromtheir elders
Its a tough sport and seasoned pro thugs like to show whos boss.
I know of some ex players who made it clear to these opponents that if they crossed the line with the young
`uns it wouldnt get unnoticed!! Everyones got to learn the ropes but a big jump up to supereleague too quickly can really knock the confidence of promising youngsters . At the moment itt seems as a club weve little alternative which to me indicates a serious failing in the organisation that needs addressing urgently before tagents come calling The better ones are then lost to glamour clubs and alll the good groundwork is wasted .Seen it too many times!!

The “musical chairs” was necessary due to injuries and the fact we had played again three days later and some had already played ill or injured.
I’m sure otherwise that would have been the case.
As for the young uns- you appear to be contradicting yourself in that you want to keep a winning side, and want to keep the youngsters but don’t want us to keep playing them. Sadly that’s not what youngsters want- they want to play.
Please point out the “many” “better ones” we have lost to glamour clubs- I’m not aware of many ex giants who’ve made it at other clubs Connor T King
