| Quote ="jools"Flying - your example is a poor one- Toby king has had one game against London- he's hardly been playing every week! And daz two of those three probably would have been given a proper chance this season but have only just come back from injury!
Tyler is only 17- not many 17yr old prop forwards playing every week in SL are there!!!!! It's easier to stick youngsters on the wing than put them in at prop or in a technical position. I don't think as a club we are doing much different to others. And it doesn't appear we are making mistakes. Not many of our youngsters that your whinging don't get a chance even go on to play championship RL let alone play for another SL team. It's difficult for us as a club to get the most promising youngsters in the first place with other clubs often getting first pick. Wigan is already sniffing round our promising scholarship half back'"
King has kept his place tonight, question is would Connor had Grixy been fit? Think we all know the answer to that one. I could count on 1 hand the players that have come thru our Academy and gone onto play SL and become a regular 1st teamer with us. Its probably nearer the 50's for the likes of Wigan, Leeds, Saints and Wire.

King has kept his place-Ryan could still be injured. Either way wire don't chuck them in every week either! Not sure where you've got 50 from!!
You could count on one hand players who have come through our academy and played first team (are you from cas?) how many of those fingers could you count players who we have let go and made it.
Would you be happy if we dropped brough, robbo, Eorl and leroy just to let a few of our youngsters get a go? I'm sure you would be berating baloo for dropping better players for inexperienced youngsters.
Get real! Our academy isn't the best- we are up against a LOT of competition (interestingly often from warrington!) to sign the best players-but until our facilities improve and we get the bums on seats to provide funds we are doing the best we can.
Instead of moaning folk should get to to the YMCA and watch the young ones - if nothing else it will be helping to fund them.

Would be delighted if Baloo dropped some of our regulars, based on current form the youngsters would be 100 times better and would guarentee the effort required. People base too much on names and see Leeming on team sheet instead of Lunt or Connor instead of Grix and fear the worse cos it isnt a recognised name (incorrectly).
Names and reputations count for jack @. King didnt play tonight you are correct, I'll use another example Williams the teenager at Wigan played regular this season, scored a hattrick tonight playing stand off. Joe Burgess at Wigan could be classed as 1st team regular now.
I go to the YMCA to watch the youngsters, I recommended a lad I used to coach to the club, a 15 year old 6' 3" no-one followed it up. I saw him at Magic Weekend last year and he said he'd got offers from Wigan, Bradford, Cas & Wakey but the Giants hadn't been to see him. I asked him to not rush signing owt and I got in touch with a contact at the club, that Weekend they went to watch him and I got a call from Pete Riding to say how good he was. They offered him a scholarship. He now plays in u16's another we nearly lost till I bollocked the club and forced em to follow up my original reccomendation well before other clubs got involved.
Its half d and needs sorting we cant afford to buy big as you rightly say, we dont have the money, thats why its vital we bring our own thru.
Rather than sign stop gap players such as Ellis, I'd rather see Miller and the other youngsters get a proper chance!!!!

And those youngsters you have named at other clubs are better than what we currently have- that's the key. I will reiterate what I said. There are not ANY of our ex youngsters who we let go currently playingin superleague except Joseph (how long ago was he in our academy!) there are many players we wanted to sign whos heads were turned by more successful clubs with better facilities and more money. The calibre of coaching at amateur club rugby in Huddersfield is pretty poor newsome being the only club to bring through a decent number of players- if you are involved at club rugby level then you must recognise that.
And no -I wouldn't be concerned if I saw leemings name on the team sheet instead of Lunt- but I would be if I saw redfearns name.
If they are good enough then they are- many .......just aren't and putting them in the first team squad isn't going to change that.

| Talking of facilities what is happening with Woodfield Park. It must be more than two years since Ken Davy bought it but it just seems to be lying derelict.

I heard that there may be problems with the drainage that would prevent it from being turned into the facilities that they dreamed of. I also heard that KD may now be looking at selling it off again. However, this wasn't from the horse's mouth, so who knows!

That could well be true I know of 2 youngsters who were offered scholarships well before the date by Bradford -both subsequently signed for giants.

| Can someone tell me what Leeming did wrong last week, l thought he would be sure to get another game against the Bulls.
l hope this is not another acadamy starlet that is doomed to get bit parts, before the likes of KR, or Wakey takes him off our hands to show us what he can do.
Good prospect deserves better.

Bailey had a good game at cas playing hooker and again went very well v the bulls, that coupled with the return of Brough and you have him relegated from the team... wood and robinson also favoured ahead of leeming, just how anderson see's it im afraid.
maybe if he scored a hat trick and missed no tackles then he would of kept his place! bailey got 2 tries though!

| but Brough wasn,t fit was he,. l remember reading in the past that if players play well they will keep their place, strong squad, fighting for positions, no guarentees etc. etc. what does that say to the young Leeming, "l get my chance, l play well. and then a half fit player comes in, and l,m out" nice one.

a 90% fit brough is better than most players in Super League, man of steel, captain and the heart beat of our team
Leeming will get another chance if hes good enough, shame hes not as good as clark at castleford, would have been playing week in week out by now

A good point.
Even a superb performance from an 18 year old might get him dropped the following week. The fact is a more experienced player might be a better choice against different opposition.
Also, despite what your average 18 year old thinks, they are kids and develop physically at different rates. If you want a world class 28 year old hooker, you might find that some rest at age 18 is the best idea.
You can't flog kids until they are exhausted. They'll burn out and drift out of the game.

That's more or less my point on how we never give the youngster a proper chance, they get one or two games 'filling in' if they're lucky enough to have their position become available during the season !!
As for Clark, according to the Cas website he made his debut (against us ironically) just over a week after his 17th Birthday, he became a regular the next, aged 18 !!!!

| The club shouldn't have to "give them a proper chance" this is professional sport not a kick-a-bout in the park. If the young players wanna get picked they are going to have make themselves undroppable.
Leeming did nothing against Cas to make himself undroppable. He tackled well but was anonymous on attack. It was him Wood or Bailey. Wood and Bailey are better players at this moment in time. If he wants to get picked he's gonna have to play a hell of a lot better.

| Again, my argument is how are they supposed to get better if they are dropped back to the u19's if they don't produce miracles in one of their rare outings for the 1st team? James Roby/Daryl Clark/Rob Burrow etc probably didn't have undroppable performances in their 1st 4 or 5 games either !!!!
