We never actually got relegated prior to 98. We were booted out. Like I said, we haven't finished in a relegation spot in 22 years.

A thread on SL licencing and that is probably the best that you can muster. I know wakey fans dislike the facts about the shambles at their club.

If you look at the history of Sheffield Eagles on thier website you will find this.

I am sick to death of other clubs fans coming on here and blaming the Giants for the merger which is simply untrue.please read the last two lines several times so it sticks in your tiny mind.and i for one would rather see Wakefield or any other team from Yorkshire stay in s/l than a team from over the pennines.

Failed to pay players wages
Had points deducted from breach of the salary cap
Failed to keep promises on the ground improvements
Failed to make an impact on the field
Failed to increase the number of home grown players in their squad.

They did NOT fail to keep promises on the ground improvements. They upgraded the toilets a couple of years ago.

Completely agree. Love going to wakey games. They are massive rivals for us and I want them in super league.

I hate going to Huddersfield games, but only because you normally give us a pasting! I don't actually have an issue with Huddersfield (I actually like their style of play), I just take issue with everyone having a pop at Wakefield because we have a poor stadium. The stadium is on the old side but I'm of the opinion if it's safe enough for the National Leagues then there's no problem with it for Super League. And it may be old school, but surely the side who finishes bottom goes down, and the top side in NL1 come up? Otherwise there is nothing to play for and it should no longer be classed as a 'sport'.

They do not just have a pop at the appalling wakey stadium. Some people are also sick of one financial crisis after another that brings the game into disrepute. They also think that after over 10 years in SL playing 10 or more 'overseas plyers' in your starting 17 is very poor - especially when some of your fans go on about being in the RL heartland.

First a stadium safe for 1500 (Nationals) may not be safe for 12000 (SL). Second it is not just about safety. Enabling people to be under cover, to have adequate parking, adequate hospitality and decent toilets should not be a luxury when you go to a SL game.

After 3 years the team that finishes bottom with the fewest points on clearly established criteria will go down. ATM that is likely to be wakey.

Promotion and relegation is a thing of the past and is very unlikely to come back in the foreseeable future, Like it or not the licence system is here and Wakefield like everyone else will have to find a way to fill the requirements of be left out, personally i hope they find the ways and means, who knows a wealthy man may step forward, It's happened at other lucky clubs.

I thought that a club had to score on other things besides a stadium, and perhaps Wakey dont score well enough on others "I dont know" . What i do find very strange is the RF league stating months ago that a NL side was going to be promoted (almost certainly Widnes ) , How do they know that the NL sides bid will be any better than Wakefields Castlefords or anyone else's, certainly they have a better stadium, a backer with money and are apparently a well run club now, they could well have a better bid than a few Superleague clubs But it all smacks of ( someone is going to make way for Widnes come what may )

Saint Helen's have played in a ramshackle Stadium for as long as Wakefield , Bradford play in a hole in the ground and are going backwards on and off the field, Salford have been promising to build a Stadium for ten years, not a brick has been laid yet i dont think, and they haven't pulled any trees up any other way as far as i can see.
So what will be will be, I think the first hurdle for Wakefield is on Friday, I wish them luck but it's only the first hurdle, If 2 Stadiums get built so close to each other i will be amazed, I really do think that a shared home is the way for them to go although i can imagine the reaction to that would be the same as it would be in Huddersfield if the Giants were encouraged to share with Halifax.

Because I can remember the spite, bile and vitriol directed to Huddersfield before we got relegated from Wakey fans.

They made their bed. Now they get to lie in it.

I dont want Wakey to go anywhere, I used to be a big fan of Wakey and was as thrilled as any of the Wakey fans at the game when I watched them win promotion to Super League.

But I cant forget the years of abuse, lies, snide comments, "shuddersfield" and so on from those same "fans".

So the phrase "if you cant take it" springs to mind.

I know exactly what you are saying. I'm sure Huddersfield have had equal amounts of verbal abuse along with everyone else, I just think It's a shame, and the amount of hatred between some clubs is quite amazing, Hull- HKR. Bulls-Rhinos. Wigan- Saints, It's all across the league, I know the same sort of thing exists in Football but i dont know if it's in all sports. Rugby League is a minor sport clinging on to existence thanks mainly to Sky , It's under attack from all sides ,Especially Union Via the media, If people need something to aim at , then let them aim at the enemies of Rugby league rather than neighbouring teams.
Banter between fans has always been there , and is a good thing but when it turns to Bile, Vitriol and such, its gone to far, Iv'e had conversations with people who hate certain clubs so much they would love nothing better than for them to just disappear, And when that has happened they will just find another club to hate to take there place, I suppose a lot of it comes down to people being fans of their own clubs rather than Rugby league fans, but that i suppose is human nature.

To be honest, the Hull fans seem to hate everyone, including each other. But apart from Humberside, I can say I've never witnessed aggresion and bile from Rugby League fans.
