Answer me this question: what do Wakefield lose if we say we aren't interested? I would say nothing, because we'll lose Brough at the end of the year anyway. It must follow, therefore, that we will get only what will interest us sufficiently, which makes it seem obvious that the offers will have to come from your side, not ours. We can just say no and be no worse off.

Ultimately, there will be a deal that all sides will be happy with, because there is no need for us to agree anything that we are not happy with, as we can wait and plan and shop around. So if we don't have to agree to anything, how can we have the weaker hand? There is no detriment to Wakefield at all in not agreeing to anything, as he will leave at the end of the season anyway at the end of his contract, whether it is to you or anyone else.
