the most disappointing thing is we know and im sure the players know that we are capable we just aren't doing it at the moment
im sure it will get better, we have seen a lot,lot worse than this in all our time!'"
Its not losing pal --its the WAY we lose at the moment !
The way things are we`re a first half team at best -and then I walk a tightrope!( and my balance is crap! )
I enjoyed the heart and enthusiasm of Messrs Johnson / Reilly / Oates/ StHilaire and co and the Police Masters team at Fartown beforehand so much more!
Giving their all and enjoying it --and it showed!!
Well done ALL!

| Giving away cheap possession so often gives us little hope of beating any decent opposition.
The giants made 135 more tackles than Warrington yesterday. That has to have a massive effect on energy levels

| Quote ="tromso"It's hard to believe it from the scoreline, but I think the Giants were a tad unlucky. For most of the first half and a few minutes at the start of the second, they were in the ascendancy, but nothing seemed to go their way. As well as a few occasions when the bounce of the ball favoured the Wolves, some of the refereeing decisions were very harsh. One of the things Warrington are really good at is getting a quick play-the ball, but on two occasions, from where I was sitting it looked as if the player rushed it and lost control of the ball while getting up - result - penalty for a strip in a two-man tackle! On top of that, such a blatant obstruction near the try line would 9 times out of 10 result in a penalty try and a 10-minute sin bin, but all the Giants got was a penalty (personally, I would have gone for a try and not taken the kick, but that's just my opinion).
When nothing is going your way, it's only natural to lose heart a bit, especially when some of the earlier games this season have been similar. Added to that, Anderson's mystifying decision to only use 3 from the bench, even though Cudjoe had been injured, made it almost inevitable that the Giants would go behind - they were then chasing the game and knackered, resulting in leaking points at the end.
Cheer up everyone - things will probably get better.'"

| Cas were fined for failing to follow operational rules in 2011. Knowing how the RFL like to make a quick buck with a fine or two, I'd expect we'll see one for Wire.

| Having slept on yesterday's game there are a few issues that concern me, some about our approach/tactics and some wider game issues.
With regard to our approach, I think we have not got the pre-season spot on, it seems most ofl our players who took part in the World Cup are a bit off, not much we can do about that now, hopefully that will come, but Leroy, Ferres, Chan, Broughy, Koppy have all been not quite themselves.
Many have criticised our props, Eorl, Koppy & Kaufusi are all huge, why are they not dominating? I think the answer simple, because we are playing with 3 props not 4. Yesterday I felt in the first half hour we were well in control without getting out of 3rd gear, that was due to our front row setting a platform and getting on top, but that changed when we interchanged Faiumu for Koppy, we had already brought on Wood for Lunt, we played the next 25 minutes with a combination of Kaufusi/Eorl with Wood and Faiumu in the middle of the park. That is very lightweight and that is when the game changed, I don't think that was a co-incidence. Have we not learned past lessons? Fuey at prop is as daft as Lee Gilmore at prop, do we not remember being squeezed out by Wigan's six props in the play offs. we simply will not win a big prize with a three prop rotation.
I find it unbelievable that we had a young prop on the bench and didn't trust him. I think 15 minutes of JJ, seven or eight minutes either side of half time would have left our props and second rows less gassed in the last 10 - Fuey relieving Chan and Ta'ai. If JJ is not up to it, why was he on the bench and why is ullally on loan?
Paul Anderson is a fantastic coach, but that was a coaching error imo.
Speaking of Mullally, we have two tough games in 4 days coming up followed by the Easter programme, we need big bodies in the prop rotation, he should be recalled today and should play in at least two of the next four matches.
It now also seems we are short of centres, Ferres does not work well there, I think we have to go with Murphy that side. If Leroy is also out, as seems likely, I think we have to go with Bruno inside Jerry. That means Bailey instead of Bruno at loose, a different type of player and we loose a lot of defensive power with that, all the more reason to play 4 props.
Player frustration! Yes James Child was awful, absolutely awful, it is fine for fans to get frustrated with his performance, it is not acceptable for the players to do so. They must focus on what they can control. I feel that in at least three matches so far this year some of our players have let refs decisions impact their own performance (Yesterday, HKR & Catalans). We need to be more focussed than that, use percieved injustice as a motivation not a negative.
I will post seperately about refereeing, not just our games, I feel the standards of the same officials are declining. I think there is a wider debate to be had there.

| We need to start holding on to the ball and not off load it 25 metres from our line when the defence is in our face. We need our props to take more hit ups to sap the defenders. Chris Hill made 23 carries for Warrington, our top prop was Eorl with 11. Ben Westwood also took 22 carries. Chan was our top carrying forward with 15. Do the maths, that's why Bruno had to make 49 tackles and Eorl 45. That's why 5 of our players made more tackles than anybody for Wire and a 6th was only beaten by Mickey Higham.
We ran out of steam as TSK suggests because we constantly had to tackle, tackle, tackle. Hence the gaps in our line late on.
It's not a tactical problem it's an application one. The players are taking short cuts. That leads to lost possession, which leads to frustration. they should stop the fancy stuff and go back to basics. Get the basics right and the rest will follow.
We played most of last season with Eorl, Koppy and Larne as our only props. We won the LLS. Clearly having 3 props supported by Faiumu and Tai'ai is not an issue.

| Let me start with the ref - loads of people, at the game, on forums and ones i spoke to after were laying into Child, the problem was the penalties against us were all justified, its the fact that he wasn't penalising them for doing the same that was the issue - this didn't cost us the game, our players did, our coach did not the ref.
As for the performance, well another one where our big props were absolutely non existant, yes i do mean the crowd favourite Eorl and Koppy, these 2 guys are not giving our backs anything at all to work with at the moment, they are almost bystanders and one or two little half runs from Eorl aside i saw nothing again from them yesterday.
I was in France last week and nearly everyone who was there said Josh Johnson was probably our best forward out there but yet this week he doesn't get a sniff while the usual suspects trundle around offering nothing. Why is Baloo not sending a message out to the senior guys and giving him game time to hopefully give them a warning that there is competition ? maybe Baloo is happy with the contribution of the 2 nailed on places that these 2 seem to have!.
Also, the players and coaching staff insist it isn't a mental thing against Warrington - rubbish !! yesterday clearly showed that once they started to get a foothold into the game we babbed ourselves, stood and watched them and let them do what they wanted to do - Again ! we had that game, Wire were no threat for 40-50 minutes then we laid down and let them tickle our bellies, this happens every time we play them, coincidence or what ?.
Highly disappointed yesterday, we had them for the taking and blew the self destruct button yet again.

i think people are aware of the poor standards of refereeing at the moment, CHILD! being just one poor performer.
but we cannot control what the referee does, referee's decisions might influence things, but the biggest influence is the players, if our players our doing their jobs properly then the referee's performance is usually irrelevant.
saying that though, the inconsistency in referee's at the moment is appalling, and yesterday once again proved it, wire were just as bad as we were for interference, holding down etc but only one team was penalized, but the players have to rise above it and get back to doing their jobs right.

| Child isn't a bad referee in the logical sense, he tends to see more than most, he's such a stickler for the rules though that he just can't let it flow.

He looks like he's going to break through on every drive he takes in, for a back he's as strong as an ox, really exciting player.
He still needs to learn the link up side and when to chime in the line, he can slow the sliding attack down by being in the wrong position but he is only 20 so i can't be critical on that, he'll pick that up with experience.
But going back to him being only 20 and pushing props off like they're butterflies, imagine what he'll be like in his mid to late twenties strength-wise.

| interesting stats from sunday in that all 3 of our props ( crabtree, kopczak, kaufusi) made less metres combined than broughton did!! and chris hill alone made only 15 or so metres less than all our props, hill also had 23 carries ,our 3 props-27 between them!
only catalans and wakefield made less metres as a team than we did this week.
only 2 players ( the 2 wingers) made more than 100 metres!
pretty shocking stats for a team aiming to win major silverware and a big indication as to where we are struggling.

| not got a problem with childs not his fault were taking short cuts or not fighting to get of the floor like warrington were. That's the reason jerry gets so many penalties he fights to get a quick play the ball our forwards need to learn of him instead of just laying there. Anderson needs to start proving he's not all talk he said people would play based on form he's not dropped any one except for Murphy which was harsh he'd be in my team every week. I also don't agree with players just walking straight back into the team they should earn the right by playing for batley you could tell Lunt wasn't fit and with him and only using 16 players we were always gonna tire in the 2nd half.

| so far this season, only jerry has made more than 700 metres ( 794) next best is crabtree (669)
kopczak has made a mere 385 metres in 65 carries, average 5.92 metres gained per carry
crabtree has made 669 metres in 109 carries, an average of 6.14 metres gained per carry
kaufusi has made 437 metres in 60 carries,an average of 7.28 metres gained per carry.
no surprise that jodie, jerry, joe, murph and leroy are the best average gain per carry, not sure how that compares to other clubs.

| Saint - we can't make batley take players! Why should a good player lose his place because we want one of ours to have a warm up game?!They may not want to pay their wage for them either!!!
Connor should have played in place of Wardle and Johnson shouldn't have been warming up the bench for the 80- neither should our next best prop have been loaned out to the club who's fans sent death threats the way of our chairman- poor decisions by our coaching staff there.

That's the whole point of dual registration isn't it? if on his day the best hooker in the league cant get a game in a championship team that's been struggling for players we have a massive problem. As I said on a previous thread think it was a mistake to loan mullally out still think we're a prop light.
