| Rubbish - 38 points conceded and everyone of them literally walk-ins.
An amateur team would have breeched that defence with ease...our defence was actually embarassing today.
No desire or effort on our own line today - any team would have punished us.

| Watching in London, and embarrassed like you. Grix cudjoe, jerry shocking! So too most of others. Appalling display. No respect for opposition. Best team won.

| Im not one to bag players but after the last few games some players are not cutting it and i feel offer very little at the moment, especially in defence, grix cudjoe and jerry were particularly abysmal today and brown and grix are poor in attack, not wanting to criticise too much but how long can we put up with players that are too comfortable despite doing very little? Is it time to drop some players that just aren't doing it?question is who do we replace them with?
Today was more disappointing than the wigan game for me

| Agree. We need a 6. Some need an enforced rest. Thought Brough and ferguson were good.

| Changes I would make. Murphy for Cudjoe (c), Eden for George(w). Grix for Eden(fb), Brown for Grix(so) and Faiumu for Brown(lf).

| Where was our mean defence today ? We scored enough to win a game and an half but looked vulnerable on nearly every Salford attach ESP our rhs.
Defence was rubbish - both a green and black bin week today.

| I believe the route cause of the poor defending out wide is lack of size in the middle, heaven help us if Eorl gets injured!
Far too often we have two hookers on the park together with a loose forward that isn't really a forward either. Unless we match the physicality that comes from the big teams in big games we have little chance of winning Silverware. Rugby League had developed into a game where almost every team has four props in rotation on match day. This season we typically have two (Fa'alogo, O'Donnell and Ferguson are not real props and don't get me started on Fooey or Gilly as props).
Every team we play gets good yards down the middle, the outside defenders did great in early games but it is asking too much of them too often and I believe teams have sussed our Athletic pack out.
I believe its time to sort out the fundamentals and play a bigger pack.

| Wouldn't have Brown anywhere near the halfs tbh, he was moved from 6 cos couldn't provide what we need, he was a centre and still is IMO.
That said Grix isn't a true 6 either and we are lacking in that department (might be where to spend the Brown money). Grix has been poor for last couple of weeks at least, especially on defence, as has Leroy.
We are a lazy team IMO and just seem to want to do just enough to win rather than go for the jugular and really really kill teams off ala Wigan.
Sorry to harp on yet again but I am still waiting for NB to show this world class coach that some say he is, the reality is that some games the Giants are not prepared and professional enough, classic example was where we had NB turn up in t-shirt at Batley last year looking like it was gonna be a stroll in the park and they were unlucky not to beat us. Cas then did beat us in the cup. This year Hull KR away and the performance today was shocking.
Everytime Salford had the ball I feared they would score down our right side an the 2 tries for, was it Sidlow? The defence was abysmal, we never smashed em once. Absolute joke today IMO, one team wanted it more and won, another 2 points lost and there is some hard work ahead to turn things around, teams who concede nearly 40 points dont tend to win owt. NB over to you!!!!!!!!

| it doesnt help either playing 3 backs in the forwards bruno, brown and robbo far too lightweight when all 3 play together, we need LOD, doof and gilmour back in the team on a regular basis instead of resting them for minor injuries every other week.

9s can be small so Robbo is not unique in that.
Have you taken a close look at Bruno?!
similar in size to players like Fergy with us and Westwood/ O'Loughlin / Hansen elsewhere
Easily bigger than wigan back rowers like Tuson and farrell and our own Gilly.

| not having a dig at any of the 3 i mentioned but when they are on field at same time we do look very lightweight, bruno maybe a big centre but to me he isnt a big 2nd rower, great defender will say that but when he has ball makes little headway against most packs. I agree hookers dont need to be big and robbo does a great job.

Bruno is as big as most back rowers and bigger than many others. In the pack he is consistently one of our best defenders.

| i said at the start grix is not a 6 and will never be one thats as simple as that. as for brown not being good enough for 6 and movedto 13 because of it, thats aload of rubbish. Nathan brown wanted an extra ball handler on the field as he thought it would give our attack a boost. brown and brough at 6 n 7 destroyed teams last season untill they both picked up injurys.
i never thought having brown at 13 would work n it probs hasnt, but we deffo need someone to help brough as much as he tries he cant do it by him self.
nathan brown has made some strange decisions recently like chan being in the centres against wigan, another point playing near enough a first team in cup games we didnt need to specially swinton which i may add LOD got injured. not point having a big squad if ur not gonna use it.
dont think its a panic thing yet but deffo needs sorting out

| Why are you all panicing? We lost to catalan in france which most teams will.
We lost to wigan and when wigan are playing like they are they will beat anyone
Yes bad game at weekend losing to salford but its one game.
No need to press the panic button just yet. Brown at 13 worked at beginning of season but now we lose a few games it doesnt work.

Most sensible thing posted on here all week.
We haven't lost 3 matches because of players "playing out of position" because they aren't, they are playing in positions they have either trained to play in or have played in in the past.
Nor have we lost matches because we lack a "big mean prop" whatever one of those is.
Nor have we lost because NB has no plan B, a meaningless soundbite if I ever heard one.
We have lost them because earlier in the season the players were sticking to the game plan, getting to the right areas of the pitch and reacting positively to negativity. Recently too many of our players have dropped back into their old habits of looking for excuses to lose. The ref, other players, NB leaving etc. Passes are being forced or snatched at so they are going to ground. Players are trying to make the individual play too much which results in our shape being lost in defence. They only way to stop it is for the players to find their mojo again but shuffling them around isn't going to help, nor will randomly dropping players.

| Only wire have managed to beat Catalan on their own soil. And Wigan are by far the best side in SL.
We have been undone by kr and Salford- both those teams beat us because they threw the ball about and offloaded at every opportunity-our defensive strategy is fixated on slowing the ptb and we weren't able to adapt.

Excellent post. Well said.
As Kev said in the Examiner, a good team doesn't become a bad one overnight.
Let's have our dip in form now, not at the season's end like us & Wire last year.

| The trouble is, even when winning, the Giants haven't looked particularly convincing, so it's not a case of suddenly becoming bad, but more of a case of not being that good in the first place and certainly not improving.

Agreed, with a squad as good and deep as ours we should expect top 4 as a minimum.
Also does the extra pivot work when we play the top sides? Against lower sides - though not Salford - it is very pretty. Against top sides it appears ineffective. A strong forward at 13 and KB at 6 would improve us defencively provide greater go forward and still leave us with plenty of strike.
If we can cut Eden's errors to under 2 per game (and improve him on numbering up the defence) + Brown to 6 and O'Donnell at 13 and tweak our rh defence we can match and beat anyone, inc Wigan.
