| according to Rugby league week nathan fien is on the verge of accepting a big offer to join the club.
the return of stacey jones to the warriors plays a big part in it as fien saw himself as the long term half back and he doesnt want to play 2nd fiddle any more.
fiens manager jim banaghan "there is an offer of 3 years on the table from huddersfield ... and a very good one. the warriors have some issues to address cant give us an answer until may so nathan may end up taking the deal that is there from huddersfield".
warriors boss wayne scurrah "it would be very hard for us to match (the giants offer). footballers have a very short career span and nathan is looking for that last big contract and we wouldnt stand in his way, even though we would hate to see him go. but if the huddersfield deal falls through for any reason we would be very keen to talk with nathan again"

| I would be pleased to get him a quality player who could play 7 or 9 or even 6 at a push. My only concern is a 3 year deal for a 30 year old. What is your view Dally and does he have a history of any health problems. I look at Steve Menzies a great player but physically he does not seem to be able to do the task Bradford have for him.
It may be that with players around him this si not a problem however.

looks like we wont be getting fien unless we pay even more now.
Quote Banaghan, who represents Monaghan, also warned that another of his clients, New Zealand scrum-half Nathan Fien, will pull out of a proposed move to Huddersfield next season unless the Giants can come up with "government-approved financial arrangements".'"

Manager tries to get as much as possible for his client and threatens player will walk away if its not enough, no real shock
Personally someone should point out that Feins career is coming to an end and he wont be worth that much...

Well I can see Richard Thewlis saying if he wants to play for giants then this is amount we will agree on, if not, sorry no deal. IMO Giants cannot be held ransom by the NRL players.

| And assuming the Giants we above board there will be no difference anyway.
Managers job is to get the most amount of money for a player and therefore themselves - hence keep them in the press as available and open to offers.
In effect he is telling another SL club to offer 12% more.

| Obviously we have three people here in employment/ not "desperate" who on applying for a vacancy wouldnt quote a salary they think theyre worth - but would accept what they were offered
I have doubts !
In addition better "staff" - better reults- and the end result is "the company" - or club gains.
A friend of mine who stuck out for the 55k per annum HE thought he was worth - and got it after some tough talking -has subsequently obtained customer contracts of 1.5 million - and 2.5 (over the next 2 years )
I bet theyre really regretting agreeing to his figure !!
The cheaper option isnt always the best
Poorer players- poorer results -poorer crowd figures
Think about it
He doesnt yet play for us - so cant be holding us to ransome
Its a question of reaching a deal that makes both parties happy - like most would do when applying - or been approached - for a job --surely??
Or maybe I`m missing something ??

| Yes you are missing something
We dont need him
His quality is going to be in question given his age and duration of contract
We already know it is a "very good offer"
He isnt the one making spurious demands that ultimately dont mean anything, what is a "government approved financial arrangement" anyway?
As far as I am aware, the government doesnt approve anything per se, unless he means legal under UK tax legislation, and I would hope all our arrangements are thus.
If this player plays for us then good, if not, nothing lost.
Maybe someone better will become available...after all if he is second fiddle to a retired player, he aint that much cop.

Then I`m open to persuasion
We dont need him
[iPure conjecture on your part I respectfully suggest
Nathan Brown , Richard and Ken Davy may consider we NEED some additional cover in certain positions -he may fit their criteria - or why bother even opening negotiations?[/i
His quality is going to be in question given his age and duration of contract
[iSee above -I would consider they have enough experience and business acumen to have considered ALL aspects prior to commencing talks[/i
We already know it is a "very good offer"
[iThis statement is usually made by those making the offer -If not shared by the recipient - then a deal would require more negotiations[/i
He isnt the one making spurious demands that ultimately dont mean anything, what is a "government approved financial arrangement" anyway?
[iOne can only presume they mean a package where present loopholes arent being plugged
[/i
As far as I am aware, the government doesnt approve anything per se, unless he means legal under UK tax legislation, and I would hope all our arrangements are thus.
[iI am noy saying any club using the reported system was doing anything illegal --but obviously this avenue is being closed and have an effect on the renumeration package[/i
If this player plays for us then good, if not, nothing lost.
[iSurely if its good if he plays for is -it would be inversely bad or we would lose something if he didnt ?[/i
Maybe someone better will become available...after all if he is second fiddle to a retired player, he aint that much cop.
He looked pretty cop in the recent world cup - and as previous responses - I would presume those makin the approaches also thoughty so Codey
If he aint THAT MUCH COP - why would it be GOOD if he plays for us - and consequentlu why make overtures in the first instance??
You say hes in the twilight of his career so are others but we`ve done pretty well so far and cover MAY be being considered for Moore - that I know not
But why shouldnt a player of his calibre at this stage of his career attempt to negotiate the best terms (within the tax rule book ) for himself prior to retirement ?
Is he any different to anyone else "applying" for a job??

| You don't get it Crackerjack. Either that or you haven't seen the full story re: Fein.
The loophole that Fein and the Giants [iwere[/i evidently going to use re: offshore payments is being closed. This means that Fein knows he is now going to pay more tax than he thought he was going to a few weeks ago and this affects his take-home. To the tune of about 12%, reportedly.
I don't believe this is the player 'negotiating'. Fein's agent is simply angle-shooting. Now that the loophole is being closed, he wants more money. It's as simple as that. I'd bet a pound to a pinch of sh*t he's [istill[/i being offered better than the Warriors were prepared to pay even after 12%, courtesy of the Warriors press releases before this 'offshore payments' announcement came to light. I'd also bet there isn't a club in the NRL who'd offer him 3 years.
We should not be a cash cow for money hungry antipodean agents. If he doesn't like what's on the table he should see what else he can get. The salary cap is what it is, and one man doesn't make a team.

| I think there is one thing for certain with Ken Davy around and that is we will not be taken for a ride by an agent. If Fiens agent wants more then the Giants will take threaten to remove their offer. It's clear contacts haven't been signed and the agent is upping the price or just trying to make himself look good for any perspective players out there looking for a new agent/
Using your analogy Crackerjack, if your friend didn't get what he thought he was worth would he have walked or settled for less?

| McNally may need another season to get the meat on him but I agree we should look to get him in there as soon as we can, depending on how he develops.
Fein will be getting a good screw if he comes. If he doesn't want to take what we offer, fine. We wont be letting ourselves get mullered by agents for overseas players.

[iI said similar BG
""One can only presume they mean a package where present loopholes arent being plugged

I don't believe this is the player 'negotiating'. Fein's agent is simply angle-shooting. Now that the loophole is being closed, he wants more money.
[iThats my point BG
I am saying that what he probably wants is a similar "package" as agreed before - and the closing of the "loopholes" mean that the club will have to see of they can stack it up a sifferent way - and within government "rules"
SimilarlyI am not saying that he`s being greedy - I am simply saying that if Nathan would like to sign him - and for three years - he must consider it a worthwhile investment in a player
It isnt surprosing in that situation that -as this could be his last "move" he attempts to get the best deal he can for himself and his family
He certainly wouldnt be the first -or indeed the last sportsman to do that
and, as my first post, I sincerely suggest that many of us- including me you Codey and even Richard Thewlis would do likewise If not - then I AM MISSING SOMETHING![/i
We should not be a cash cow for money hungry antipodean agents. If he doesn't like what's on the table he should see what else he can get. The salary cap is what it is, and one man doesn't make a team
[iAs for agents -then thats another discussion
You or I would have tp battle our own corner and I have long thought rugby players were man enough to do that without a "mouthpiece"
I consider them a drain on the games finances - but clubs long since chose to negotiate in this way --so they`ll have to live with it!
It all comes down now to how highly we really do rate him at this stage in
his career and life
whether theres a "legal" way to address the created shortfall
and ultimately whether we`ll raise or he`ll drop the "bar"
I think theres a few chapters left yet in this story!
[/i

| Totally O/T and meant in good faith....
Crackerjack please can you edit your posts to make them more readable when replying to someone?
The easiest and grammatically correct way is to use quotes around what someone else says and then you own words outside these quotes for example:
Quote ="billy"I like eating fried fish as it is good for you'"
whilst the fish is good becuase of the Omega 3 the frying action is bad
Quote I also like chips'"
bad for you too I'm afraid
the above is easier to read when compared to:
Quote ="billy"I like eating fried fish as it is good for you
[iwhilst the fish is good becuase of the Omega 3 the frying action is bad[/i
I also like chips
[ibad for you too I'm afraid[/i'"
which is difficult to process quickly and therefore read. That is why I believe people get frustrated with your posts and it resort to mayhem.
It has been enjoyable on here in the past few weeks and new people have been posting because of it - lets all make the effort for it to continue.

Enjoyed the above as much as you no doubt enjoyed taking the effort --really good response to my take on our possible signing -see topic heading above !!
its usually the same lost souls who " get frustrated" - but I make no apologies for those of limited flexibility and brain power !
As for more people posting - its a long way to go yet to replace those who the modern day messiahs have driven away
But dont worry --you wont lose me
I`ll hang on in !!
....................though perhaps a petition MIGHT work??
six is not a bad starting point!!
Now any of the new posters (mentioned by learned friend) want to discuss the possible signing of Nathan Fein further ??
Its obviously beyond many!
