| Given he was a regular for them last season and before, has played in a GF etc, I'd say it was pretty much nailed on what MarsdenGiant will say. That he isn't an unproven rookie but a young talent with his better years ahead. You know, stuff like that.

Thanks for asking.
I would say that although Fulton is only 2 years older than Winterstein he has made 77 1st team appearances compared with 5. Last season he played in 21 games so appeared in well over 75% of games.
When younger than Winterstein he won a Grand Final.
Delighted that we are bringing a player of proven quality.
And of course I would be appalled if the Giants signed a reserve grader. HTH

Fair do's. I understand why you may be ashamed of such ropey reserve grade recruitment. But you invited the question.

Not ashamed, nor did I start the thread on VT with mis-informed and un-researched information now can we leave it here, we dont need any other topic dividing these two sets of fans, which i feel is already blown way out of proportion.

Perhaps your club would be better served if a few more people were bothered by so many overseas players after a decade in SL and now signing reserve graders
You ask the question. Then you don't like the answer so you go on about another thread
If the Giants signed a reserve grader - using some developmental 'cap' for Samoa - i would think it very poor.

| Ok, you both want my answer to wadski it was a joke notice the . I'm not too fussed what MG has to say merely friendly banter that has been blown out of proportion yet again.
To MG, i dont give two £$"% how england or gb do, and i know alot of other fans (of many clubs including your own) feel the same. We have neglected our academy system for some time, this is the fault of our board aswell as numerous aussie coaches and the lack of resources on our part to invest into the academy system whilst trying to survive in SL and therefore the long term view was ignored, and short term aussie signings was unfortunately the way we had to do to survive.
Since John Kear has come into our club aswell as being given a franchise we have been able and have chosen to invest in the academy/scholarship system alot more than we have in the past with some results also been shown, we have perhaps more so than other sl clubs looked at the NL for english recruitement that has paved well for us.
In the "million pound game" vs cas only one of our players were eligable for gb (iirc) there has been an improvement in this figure since, however we have to take it step by step re. intro of majority of eng players in our squad, however as long as my club is doing well with a mixture of nationalities im not too bothered whether we have 17 english men on the field.
Re. winterstein and please dont concentrate on this comment in your response if you wish to do so, he is a young player we feel has potential in a posistion where are academy/young english players are currently filling in, however imo i dont want to burn out players such as fergurson and pitts. He did play for somoa and was selected in the WC squad before getting an injury. And as long as he plays well develops some of his potential ill be happy, (not poor) with this signing after 10 yrs in SL

A good juicy rationalisation.
'Half' the post seems to focus on supporting more British/local talent signed under Kear.
'Half' sems to focus on a 'don't give 2 hoots' attitude if there are loads of overseas players.
Make your mind up...or are there two people 'in there'?
To the half of you that is pro local/GB development:
Ten years in SL and you have around 10 overseas players and now resort to a reserve grader, it is very poor. players are on 2/3 year contracts it does not take forever to get the number down over a decade.
Furthermore Nigel Wright , not a keen Giants fan, had a different view of Trin's youth development.
To the half that is pro overseas reserve graders:
I've never said Winterstein is not a good player. However for some of us there are real concerns about bringing unproven players half way acros the world. It discourages local talent and encourages clubs to be lazy on development - if they get it wrong they will fill up with an overseas reserve grader.
Can we get back to Fulton? A proven player.
Now one more thing...what was it? oh yes.....

It's called a balanced argument, maybe you should try it
one more thing
Onto fulton can you see him playing 6 or 7 or do you think he will play his usual posistion of 13 ?
If so who will he replace, because we dont want any young english players being butted out do we

| i am not going to knock other teams when our record has not been that great until recently.
If Wakie are developing their academy and bringing more English players into the team then fair play to them.
if they have recruited a second rate overseas player then fair enough. when Korkidas and Fulton have done the job for us then i will blow the our signings are better than your signings trumpet.
when we are better than all other teams on different criteria then we can start criticising other teams.

Do tell me in our SL history when we fielded a team with 13 overseas players?
When was the last time we had 10 overseas players on our books?
This thread is not about 'our signings are better than / worse than yours'. It does touch upon bringing in unproven reserve graders. I would be appalled if the Giants did this.
I am unclear what on earth your last sentence is about. However some people may feel that a team with10 continuous years in SL can be criticised for still having 10 or so overseas players and still signing a reserve grader.

| MG until recently our record vis a vis the academy was not that great as we put our resources into the first team. Now with franchising we have put a lot of money into bringing youngsters through and signing youngsters from other areas.
part of the difficulty has also been that any good players often went to bigger teams. as i understand it that has been the same problem wakefield have had. If wakefield have lost players like Ellis to Leeds and have then felt that they need to recruit overseas players to fill the gap until their youngsters are good enough then so be it. i will judge them in 3 years in the same way that we will judge them.
Additionally whilst we are quite rightly pleased with the number of British born players in our team we are not averse to dropping them to play foreigners. Lunt would not be playing if Faiumu had not gone back to NZ and one of Brown or Robbo would have been missing if we had signed another' johnny foreigner' like Drew, Fien or Carney.
I am also not going to go on about how wakefield had 10 foreigners in their team ina recent match i am sure that if Brough and sculthorpe had been available it would have been down to eight.
i am less concerned about what other teams are doing than i am compared about what my team are doing.
so i dont give a if wakey or cas have no ground or that wakey or celtic have loads of aussies in their team or whether we have sold more seasoin tickets than Bradford and therefore i do not feel the need to go bagging them at every opportunity.
At the moment the Giants are going in the right direction and i look forward to where we are in 3 years. we are going forward in our way others may be trying to to it differently. the result will be where we all are in 3 years.
then if anyone loses their franchises i will say that it is their fault for not doing A B or C but until then why have a go
as for the last sentence in my post i was referring to our away support being rather limited. You may have noticed that we get bagged a lot about this. It really p!sses me off but unfortunately is true. So when we are taking 500 to 1000 to every away game i might feel a bit more comfortanble about taking the p1ss out of other clubs

My focus is not on all the stuff you mention above.
It is on a club of 10+ continuous years in SL having 10 or so oversease players and signing a reserve grader.
I mentioned it on the VT and had 28 pages of pitiful justifications. They had their ar5es so badly kicked that a few saddos had to create a thread on the wakey forum where they could 'huddle' together.
We look to have signed a quality player and a sad little wakey fan turns up. he produces one of the most self contradictory and befuddled posts I have seen and then claims contradicting yourself is being balanced
I think their recruitment on this issue is dire and you do not. I write my own views and do not presume to tell you what to think. However you write:
"when we are better than all other teams on different criteria then we can start criticising other teams."
I will think for myself .thanks.
