| Am i the only one who think NB has been something of a disaster for the club
He took over a team built by Sharp and given a bit of momentum by Anderson and Purtill.
He took us to a cc cup final ( but so did Sharp and i do not see him being put on a pedestal).
Since then he has built a team which frankly is not up to the task due to some poor recruitment ie filling the team with second rows and hookers and no props.
Now it is clear that Baloo has a big rebuilding of his own to do, he is not taking over a good, successful and happy team and will have to do it all again. That is what NB has left him.
He has been outhought by other coaches in a lot of big games since.
we have IMHO got worse every season.
Of course there have been some highs and great days but are we better than we were the last time Baloo was in charge.
We can all point to other positives bigger crowds and the setting up of a proper development programme but that is down to Ken's £.
NB may have helped some players develop and become better but his best successes were Lunt and Kirmond and he was quite happy to offload them.
I feel that NB has wasted Kens legacy of the last four years.
With the Full salary cap etc that was available would we have done better with Tony Smith or McGuire in charge

| You wont ever hear me saying he's been anything other than fantastic for our club - just a shame it all went a bit breasts vertical in the end.
No use using hindsight - we didnt have McGuire or Smith (not recently) so no point bringing them into the equation.
Remind me again how many other coaches took us into the top 5 in cosecutive years and made us into a contending team ?.
Sorry , i'm definitely not with you on this .

| Don't agree either Durham Giant. He took us to the top 4 and raised expectations. A real legacy there.

| i totally disagree with this. when baloo took over in 09 we was at rock bottom form wise anything would have been an improvement, nathan brown came in and improved fitness, defence and most important confidence in their ability, 2009 finished 3rd and a cup final. which in the cup final some ref decisions and losing kevin brown after 30 mins was a big blow which the team couldnt recover.
2010 we was 20 mins away from old trafford but saints main man came on and does what made him a world class hooker and we ran out of steam.
last 2 season we have started like a house on fire and had a slump due to injurys and the on going speculation.
as for recruitment im not sure there are many you can save have been a fail since coming to us. his built a mobile pack which when going dominated at pace allowing brough brown robbo and lunt main part of the time to control games. we have genuine pace which we didnt have for alot of years.
this season for what ever reason his tried changing it around and it hasnt worked and had to leave on terms which i know i didnt want as i wanted to give him a proper send off for the brilliant job his done.
not many coaches can come in and do what nathan has done. briliant memorys and some big wins including the last 2 headingly trips good luck and thank you is what i say to nathan brown

| He's a good assistant coach but out of his depth as a head coach. We should have beaten saints in 2010 but he played Lunt at 2nd row who got run over for a couple of trys. That was the beginning of the end for me, when his tinkering really started. Can't man manage and wont do confrontation. Not good for the boss.

Compare that to where you were with Brown?

Are you serious? Everything was against you in that match: it was our last ever fixture at KR and it was Cunningham's last ever home game...
What about the challenge cup semi final at Warrington were you absolutely played us off the park? Remember that one?

I bet Trent Barrett would have a different view on whether NB shied away from confrontation or not.
I'm not advocating the slap-in-the-face approach, but it doesn't indicate someone who doesn't 'do' confrontation.

| 2000 - Shuddersfield year
2001 - Last
2002 - Not in the league
2003 - 10th
2004 - 7th
2005 - 8th
2006 - 9th
2007 - 5th
2008 - 10th
Brown comes in
2009 - 3rd
2010 - 5th
2011 - 4th
2012 - ???
So he's taken a side from 10th (or apart from 2007) a bottom half of the league side, to regular top 4 side, even this year with him in charge you would more than likely have finished in the top 6.

| Each coach has their part to play in building up a team. Saints didn't just suddenly have a fabulous team that won everything in 2006. We had a few coaches before Daniel Anderson who had recruited well and grown the team both in terms of its spine and its ethos. While Hudds have yet to reach the winning finals stage they are almost there and I think you have Brown to thank for that, with the work of Sharp in preparation before him.
I have my doubts about Brown coming to Saints but I don't have doubts that he has been good for Hudds. Maybe he stayed a season too long, but only a season.

Sorry re editied the stats to give a fuller picture not to ignore the good year sharp had.
Funnily enough: a blast from the past: After 7 consecutive losses they found themselves marooned at the foot of the table, 5 points adrift, but ironically with the second best defence in the league. Large sections of the fans began to question the coach's ability and as a result crowds began to dwindle and morale was beginning to suffer.

3rd, 5th and 4th finishes have not been accomplished by the Giants in 40 or 50 years? Very impressive when several clubs are full cap and a couple 'over the cap'.
NB did have some very good fortune:
Giants had a decent underperforming squad in 08.
A few good young players were emerging.
Lunt joined as an 'unknown'
Moore was a risky signing come good.
[u Of massive significance was that Brett Hodgson had already been signed!!![/u
NB did improve many technical aspects of our game AND had the very good sense to bring Bumper.
outsiders don't realise that some of the young talent signed by the club like Patrick and Wardle and Eden had stuff all to do with NB.
In the end the gifted prodigy is unable to resist too much tinkering, having favourites and lacks some inner steel. He will produce teams that are often good to watch but struggle to win silverware.
A gifted assistant.

To even describe his tenure as a 'disaster' is ridiculous and is frankly laughable.

A gifted assistant can do quite well, look at Saints this year, from 9th to top 4. With some gifted assistants.
If he can get Saints playing stuff that is good to watch, then the rest of the club will be able to get him home the rest of the way.
He's moving into a machine, in a way his job is to tinker with the machine. If he can migrate us up a couple of notches then that's what we need. Brown and Maguire where spoken of in the same breath in terms of defence and we need that. He can also bring on younger players especially backlines, great that is where we are weakest.
Our pack match it up every week and Cunningham will still have a hand in that.
I'm not after year on year GF wins (I'll take em, but I think dynasty's like that do not happen very often).
But if in his 3 years with us, if he can pick up 2 pieces of silverware then that will be a good result. If he picks up one. Then I think he will get a par rating from fans, anything less than that he will start to fall into a Potter, Simmons type coach rating.

A nice fantasy.
"the club will get him the rest of the way."
"He's moving into a machine"
" His job is to tinker"
That is plain silly, believe it if you need to.
If you think the following are smart moves you will love NByou could not make this stuff up.
He had a far better , bigger machine at St George and under achieved.

Any knowledgable saints fan who digs deeper than headlines will have some genuine concerns. No amount of bluster or condescending comments about the giants will change that.

| cant say agree with durham at all, i think nathan brown has done a great job at the club, his main success to me has been to bring through a lot of good young english talent, not to mention our highest league placings in my 47 years of watching the club and until 2 months ago he was still regarded by the majority of doing a great job, imo he will win silverware at saints, thanks for the memories nathan hope now baloo takes the baton to the next stage.

Tend to agree with goodie and not Durham.
Except think the cracks where showing a bit before , and I don't think he will win silverware at saints. Tbh I'll be surprised if he is even still at saints at the end of next season. Mark my words folks - get down to the bookies....

| He has been brilliant in the development of young players but then has countered that by his tinkering with them once in place, and I'd say he has been fortunate in coming to the team just as some of our best young backs are breaking in to the team.
Kirmond and Lunt didnt deserve to be shifted off - Kirmond could have been a great back row or centre he definately wasn't a prop
Lunt is going to get a Wembley appearance this season so he'll be chuffed.
But he gets us great form early on then blows it.
It's not been an unmitigated disaster - but it has been a travesty of missed opportunity.
