I can't help thinking that letting Brough go now is fishy. I reckon it would be more for Wakey's benefit than ours.

We're doing OK so far without Brough. And why would we let Aspinwall AND Kirmond go in exchange for a player who is OOC at the end of this season? I think that particular bit of the rumour is fantasy.

got to give it to you jo you were spot on love , there was me thinking that talking to a player without permission could arouse suspicions of "Bung" . does make you wonder why all of a sudden your club are willing to offer cash plus it seems players for the privilege of danny. maybe it was just his inspirational performance last week that inspired brown to just plunge for him.

Why would we release a man like Kirmond, who signed a long term contract last season, in exchange for another player plus cash fior Brough who is OOC at the end of the year when we have players in that position and cover besides?

Let's be sensible here and cut the sh*te. Any deal will be done on our terms and will suit us. No one else.

Think if it happens it will be just this, Drewy moved into a coaching role, Fouey released, Robbo moved to rotation hooker with Lunty and Brough in at S/Half.

But at this stage it's a big if as to whether we want Broughy, whether he wants to come to the Giants and a small matter of McNally that I am sure will feature at the Giants at some time?

Why pay money to a club for a player we don't "need" right now.

If it were Drew going the other way and zero cash it would be plausible. Drew and Horne even.

Kirmond going? Makes no sense that, not even to Wakey. What if his knee is shot? God forbid like and I'm not saying he wont be as good and even better than before as he gets older and gains experience, but he's not fit. He doesn't solve any immediate problems for them. Why would he want to go? No disrespect to them like but he's got a long term deal with us, we're doing pretty sound and franchises are coming up. Now is not the time to chuck that away to join Wakey who worst case will be out of SL in a year or so.

Whats the crack with Korki? when is his contract up? have Wakey paid a fee for him? if not could he be part of any deal?

First wakey fans say he is staying. Then that he may go to HKR. And then if he goes it will be atthe end of 2010. Now he is said to be leaving immediately for Kirmond / Aspers + a big fee. Bottom line is they know stuff all.

Due to KD's support the Giants do not have to jump around to pay tax bills or face winding up orders. They do not have to sell 'the family' silver to get quick fixes on transfer fees. If player personnel are changing then it will be solely because NB thinks our squad will be stronger. Some other clubs have to juggle players salaries around to keep their heads above water.

next season may happen before then no chance thats my view anyway not usually wrong but shall see.

Don't need a scrum half. Robbo has signed a new deal and Brough is trouble (plus he goes missing in games). Really not the sort of player NB goes for. Plus out of contract at the end of the season so deffo no need to pay any money !

Whilst it is all speculation the problem is that there seems to be logic to it.

If NB wants a new half back and it appears he has suggested that, then Brough may fit the bill. If he sees Robbo at no 9 then a new Scrum half seems the order of the day.

NB has made the point that we need that edge in attack in the big games eg Hull and Wire this year Brough may fit the bill.

There is a lack of quality half backs to get and any you do get will cost a fortune, Finch and Lockyer are examples.

There are a number of teams who have half back problems and come the end of the season they could name their own price.

=#FF0000Have the Giants decided to go for Brough now rather than be in an auction for wages at the end of the season when Brough could go to Saints or HKR. Paying £50,000 transfer fee now rather than £150,000 on extra wages to secure his services at the end of the season may seem to be good buisness. This is the only logical argument for the move at present.

From Brough's point of view coming here now would make sense. With Brown as coach and playing with our pack he could have a blinding season and then be a shoe in for a trip down under at the end of the season. As much as i like Tompkins and Myler they are still too inexperienced to be a first choice half back combo at the minute.

In respect of Drew maybe the club are concerned about his injury as his come back seems to be delayed further. Could this make the signing more of an issue.

As for the players involved in the swap Aspinwall is OOC at the end of the season and Wakey need a hooker / second row. They also need a Kirmond type player, they are light in the pack and he would fit the bill for them.

I would be absolutely gutted if we lost Kirmond as i think he is a potential international . Apart from that injury last season i could have seen him being in the frame for International honours in the 4 nations. I wonder whether Lolesi might also fit the bill for wakey as they also need a big centre.

In terms of Brough i am in two minds about him.

His kicking game is awesome and his long kicks would save our pack doing 15% less work per game due to long kicking, penalties 40 - 20s etc. His short kicking game is also superb. he has pace , strength , likes to attack the line and would be a perfect foil for Brown.


BUT

His personality is an issue and i am unsure whether he will unsettle his team mates and i am unsure if he is a team player rather than an indavidual player. Our success has been through a collective rather than an indavidual approach to the game.

Whilst i am still sceptical about this rumour there are so many elements to it which seem to make a lot of sense

i agree that if your club was stupid enough to allow potential such as kirkmond leave then you will taking a massive backward step and as a wakey fan i would be very happy to see him in a wakey shirt , but danril be sensible about this you have probably the best team in the league at the moment so why would you take danny brough when you dont at this moment in time need him?

The only thing that confused me, was why Wakey have now done a deal.Could have done it before start of season.
I would imagine that in some way its connected to the availability of Cooke.

IE Wakey now feel they have a replacement.

Broughy is good,very good on his day.Just needs to be kept in line.
If its a done deal,good luck to the lad,hes been good for Wakey and ive enjoyed watching him.But its a short career and he needs to look after himself and family.

I hope we haven't paid a fee for a player we're not desperate for. Like GiantJo said, I'm sure it's our stated policy that we don't pay transfer fees for first team players.

But you don't know what's happened. You just know what you've been told. And in fairness the rumour mill at Wakefield has more imagination than Tolkien.
