| According to League Express Lee Gilmour is heading to the Giants next Season.
A good signing in my book. Plays anywhere on the field can tackle and has pace.

| we already have loads of second rows apart from the injured ones
If he is not good enough foir Saint Helens he is not good enough for us
Not good news for Walsh or Patrick i think.
Surely this means Raleigh moving up to prop.

| Not sure what i make of this one - 2 or 3 years a go i would say this was an ace signing, now i'm not as sure - he's gettin on now and we have 2 or 3 young uns in the wings who i would rather see get a chance - but if he improves our squad in someway then i suppose he may be worth a 12 month offer while Patrick and Walsh develop a bit more.

| Like all rumours of signings, when he has his piccy in the paper holding a Giants shirt, then I will believe it.
Till then, its more hot air from League Express.

i cannot see us signing a 31 year old second row who occassionally plays at centre to be a first choice centre. Who will he be replacing Bruno or fatz, or jammer

| A top class SR (who can cover at centre). Does high minutes, runs excellent lines and is explosive. Plays a high percentage of games each year and is a winner. At 31 I would be happy with a 2 year deal.
A back row of Fa'alogo / Wild / Gilmour with Kirmond off the bench is excellent. Plus we have Raleigh (at prop) and Jammer (at centre) and Patrick offering cover.

and where did i say he wasn't ??
the point i was making was he's already 30 plus and we have enough cover for the positions he plays currently in the 1st team squad and in the reserves - if he was say a creative half back or a speedy winger then i would have been more than happy to take him.
Just cos a player plays for Saints doesnt automatically mean every fan in the country would want him in their team - i'm not slating the player just the fact that we dont really need him.

| Gilmour is good enough and hasn't lost any of his pace. Good record with injuries and if we sign him then you'd have to hope the price would be right. We're not daft ATEOTD.

| I just dont think he is needed
We have a second row who can cover centre in Jammer - who I think is as good as Gilmore.
We have second rows aplenty - Raleigh, Wild, Kirmond, all as good as Gilmore in their own way
Yeah a couple of years ago I would have snapped him up, but now? Just not needed. If we are to push for the top we should not be takeing their castoffs.

Raleigh will be a prop. jammer a centre. That leaves fa'alogo, wild kirmond and patrick. I would welcome an international sr player. We do not have 'loads' of back rowers.
Depends on what we mean by cast offs. The Wests 'cast off' the same age as Gilmour has done a decent job.

| We also have Finnegan. He hasn't set the world alight IMO though.
If we had Wild, Fa'alogo, Kirmond, Jammer and Finnegan fighting for back row and bench spots then that is a top notch set up.

| I think Gilmour makes a great addition to the squad.
He's versatile he has pace and he's a winner. Can fill any spot in the forwards and a couple in the backs.
Not a long term signing but a good one at the right price.

| If he is that good, why are saints getting rid of him?
And if we want to be a top team, why are we taking their castoffs?

| Saints aren't getting rid of him though. He's been offered one year and wants two.
Saints have a plethora of back rowers and are short at prop. They also have a fair few very promising young second rowers developing.
He's OOC so he's going to end up being top of the list to depart despiute them having other second rowers who are, IMO, not as good.
The more I think about it the more I'm warming to the idea. He's still a top player and he has much to offer us, especially when it comes to running good lines, pulling defences about and busting tackles.

| The key to signing him is what does he give us a VALUE added player.
He is a good player but age counts against him, he will only be a short term signing. The problem is that signing established Stars costs Salary cap money.
If we can get him at the RIGHT price then i would be happy with him but if it means we have to keep Scully because we have no money left for a better prop i would say no.
We need a PROP and a quality half back plus possibly a hooker before we need another second row.
If we can get these three as well as Gilmour then good if not then i would regard the other positions as been a priority.
What this discussion does show is how much the club has come on that we can be having disagreements on whether we should be signing England and GB internationals.

As for Raleigh becoming prop, he will need a season to get up to scratch there so cant count.

| Raleigh has been a 2nd row cum prop for the past two seasons. He has always run like a prop when in possession. With his intelligence, I'd hope he will be at home almost immediately in the front row.
