I don't think anyone can really pass judgement on a player who has had a hand full of games with no pre-season.

| After Sunday would be happy with Doof stepping up and the money being used to tie up our younger players to long term deals.
What about Adam Walker? Then there is young Fairbank is his first team future in the front or second row?
If the new TV deal down under goes down I can't see any top aussies coming over unless they are paid stupid wages and I wouldn't want to waste big money on a player who, in Nathan Brown's words "Only needs to run the ball hard and straight and tackle anything that moves."
Griffin would be a loss but if we have money for a big signing (and there's no evidence we do) I would rather spend it on a top quality experienced centre to come in, add the edge that is missing in our attack and help develop players like Cudjoe and Wardle to become better players.

Isn't Gilmour doing this already? And he's staying for another 2 years.

Agree with the younger players to be given a go.But look at the wages o donnell is on £1 million over 4 years.A lot of money to run the ball straight and hard and tackle anything that moves.
Id give walker 4 or 5 run outs this year and see if he can earn a place for next season.A new centre would be good - joel reddy from the eels is out of contract i think.

| we have a new centre (and winger) coming already, we have wardle leroy gilmour and simpson, who yes hasnt looked great so far this year but neither did matt king year 1, with the cancer and the move to a new country after the season start behind him, injury free and a full preseason we can make a better judgement about simpsons worth. Unless we win some prize money this year to add to the cap money i dont think we will be getting any big names.

| I can't see O'Donnell being on £250k per season personally. He'll be on a decent whack, for sure. But £250k? That's a major portion of the cap and not something you associate with canny operators like Davy and Thewlis.

| as reported in this weeks ausie news, its getting harder for super league to attract quality australians due to the closing of some tax loop hole? and the fact that the value of the pound has deteriated so much in rescent times against the dollarm making it harder to pay descent wages to the aussies

Yeah I remember it being reported, I also believe it was $1 Millions AUS.
No way is one man taking up 15.5% of the anual salary cap.

| think the salary o'donnell is on could be right 250k a season i read too when he signed.
Griffin leaving is a blow lets not get away from this fact.
gallen wont be coming either enf of.
looks like faalogo will replace griffin in the prop department.
walker not good enough for super league, fairbank is a 2nd rower.
so for next season our props look like being.. mason, patrick (ex 2nd row),crabtree and faalogo (ex 2nd row).
if one gets injured then raleigh (ex 2nd row) to come in or a youngster, our pack getting weaker by the season??
we have a big squad and this is what happens to keep players happy, if they cant get in the team in there favoured position give them another job in the team

250k Aussie dollars per season at last seasons exchange rate, ramped down from the Aussie speculation that always massages these figures upwards a little, would bring that salary figure down to a more realistic level in uk currency IMO.

I think Kirmond has been unlucky to lose his place.

| I recall the Luke O'Donnell salary being quoted at £1million over four years but this was quickly played down as 'exaggerated' figures. Don't believe for a second that he is on that much. Around £180,000 p/a would take him to around the average 'top' SL players wage. Luke is worth that for sure. A quality forward, hard as nails. And he will get better as he regains his fitness.
Regards Griffin - personally, and I don't think it has really been mentioned, I just think that Nathan doesn't want all his forwards growing older at the same time. Current props ages are Eorl 28, Mason 29, Griffin 30, Larne 23, when you throw in the likes of Gilly at 33, Luke 30, Doof 30, Raleigh 30. Look at what happened at Leeds with their pack becoming old altogether due to poor recruitment and decision making. Fa'alogo is ready to move upfront and there is enough talented youth coming through. Griff is a good prop but he isn't international class. With Bruno moving into the pack it is just a case of too many bodies!
Am very interested to know who this new centre and winger is that is being spoken about. With Jammer also off the cap and quota, it would be nice to have a name to get the juices flowing for 2012........
