I was really not happy with the effort shown last night by our second rows, both Ferres and Chan wanted the ball going forward but did not put a shift when Catalans had the ball leaving 4 forwards to take on the Catalans pack, two of whom (Wood & Bailey) are on the small side for forwards. Result our props were over-run. Having Eorl, Koppy & Kaufusi in the front row should give us an advantage, but that doesn't work if people cheat on defence.
Only one way to sort that, people cannot be assured their places in the team. I would recall Mullally and go in for a bit of regular rotation in the forwards to ensure people are competing to be selected for the big games.
Cannot agree. The job of chan and Ferres is to defend out wide. Catalans did most attacking up the middle as this is where they got success. Brough, Robinson, and Wood had to make 82 tackles between them which suggests Catalans were very clever at picking out who to run at which would also have the effect of tiring out our pivots in attack.
What I do find unacceptable is
Kopczak 6 carries 29 metres
Kaufusi 7 carries 48 metres
That is an unacceptable work rate and in Kopczaks case is frankly embarrasing and that is not for the first time this season.
Are our props to blame or are they just not being given the ball- too many times pinned in our own half and backs are taking the ball up for the first three tackles!! That should not be happening! If it's a game plan it's a poor one.
chris bailey top tackler in the game, not really come at the club to do that job though, soon as lunt is back he can play the way anderson wants him too, crabtree did a big stint too and wood
