Not sure I agree with that statement TBH. Purtill is coach with the Knights with Baloo as assistant and, whilst I don't necessarily agree with McNamara selecting the like of Chase et al I can understand why he has done it.
I think so long as the clubs keep focusing on developing players, and IMO more clubs are doing that now, then we may see some more depth and competition growing for places.
Residency rules are across all sports these days, cant see a problem with it myself, it aint hurt the Aussies playing Kiwis and Islanders all these years.
Rules in place, aint gonna stop now.
Saying that id like to see 17 english players pulling on the shirt but them days are gone now.
I don't have a problem with Rangi Chase playing for England. I do however have a problem with him playing for NZ Maoris and the exiles previously though. i also have a problem with Danny Brough playing for England having played for Scotland. Tonie Carroll playing for New Zealand and Australia etc etc.
This won't make to make international RL a joke, it already is a joke.
perhaps the knights boys thought - we are knackered, we want a rest (bruno has got on a plane already) whats the point when macca will just draft into the england squad some guy who isnt good enough to play for his country of birth and has only lived here 3 years, probably wants residency but due to a convictioon wont get it unless - oh he plays for England! plus we are a bit p*ssed off that hes taken our captains spot so lets not bother.
