Quote LEE GILMOUR is determined to make a Giants back-row berth his own.
But with the quality of the forwards already on the books, the 31-year-old St Helens ace knows he won’t be able to take anything for granted when he arrives at the Galpharm next season.
The Giants had already confirmed the capture of New Zealand Test back rower David Fa’alogo from Australian NRL side South Sydney Rabbitohs for the 2010 Super League campaign.
And the pair will add significant strength to a pack that is already holding its own this season.
The third-placed Giants aim to secure a 14th win from 21 games at home to Warrington on Sunday.
Gilmour is desperate to do whatever it takes to gain a forwards’ shirt next year – even though he has shone in the centres during his glittering career.
“I do see myself as a back-row forward, and that’s where I want to play,” said Gilmour, who has sampled life in the threequarters with Great Britain, as well as at Wigan, Bradford and now Saints.
“Although I’ve spent a fair bit of time in the centres, I don’t see that as being my best position, and I think Huddersfield already have some great options there.
