Its a good call, but he probably makes more doing his 30 second pitchside reports for the Beeb than he would get in a month as a coach!

Robbie Hunter-Paul: Too inexperienced for me, I think his future lies in the media.

Sean Long-Great player, but a nutcase-not what we need at the moment, high wages too i'd expect.

John Pendlebury-Great coach, but been out of the game for a while?

Neil Jukes-Building good reputation, cheap option with turbulant times ahead.

Kieron Purtill-Don't think we could afford him, but would be ideal.

John Stankevich-Doing a good job at Rochdale.

Karl Harrison-Proven coach, has own business in Yorkieland, but also has RL ambitions too as he has stated in interviews.

Paul Rowley-Never really heard anything positive about his coaching, don't know if anyone else has?

Unknown Aussie-Hopefully Basil knows another Turk?

Steve McCormack-Better in the past at smaller clubs.

I actually think we need to think sensibly here. We've 'ticked a box', so instant success isn't as important as finances or development. Say to a coach, you have X to spend over 3 years, get us some good kids, and prepare us for a bid on Super League in 2015. No pressure about results, get the club running smoothly off the pitch as well as on it.

Pendlebury or Harrison for me.

Whoever we bring in needs to build on what Ian started and share that vision.
For me, Rowley, Jukes and Eccleston need to be retained to help the new man Share that Vision.

Purtill, Stankovich and McCormack are my choices.

High profile. Au fait with the community aspect. Great player. Offers continuity.

There is lots of work to be done before we hire the right coach for us. We are in no rush and there are (it seems) quite a few potential candidates.

Appointment Robbie would mean we need a more experienced figurehead in a Director of Rugby type of role which I don't think we can afford. If he is the right choice financially then I'd be delighted with Purtill.

I also believe the current board are that short sighted they will run with what we have already purely to save money - it will cost us a fortune if they do.

Lets enjoy the rest of the ride with Basil this season and regroup at the end of it.

Theyve not much chioce if we havent got the money though have they. Perhaps an independant source could fund the coaches wages maybe?

RHP has stated hundreds of times he does NOT want to coach he feels his future is on the admin side of the game.

I'm gonna show my hand and call for bring back Benson or have a go at Tommy Martyn. They'd be my preferences, but then again. I'd rather see Ainscough appointed new chairman before we worry about a new coach.

TB was a nice bloke but it's no good living in the past. Would be a ridiculous appointment as far as I'm concerned.

Seriously though - as much as I like TB - his coaching record since leaving us has hardly showered him in glory!!

I'm hoping Basil has a surprise 'leaving present' for us (ala Turk) - but failing that, I'd see Purtill as an excellent fit for the club.

We must not give anyone a contract until it is known who will be running the club. The decision cannot be made by current Directors who are resigning at the end of the season - we could get lumbered with someone that a 'new owner' doesn't agree with.

Let's not forget that whoever becomes coach is responsible for maintaining & improving crowds by way of the type of rugby played - would hate to loose the 1000 we have got back this season.
Poor coach / players = less crowds = less income = poorer players = lesser crowds = poorer players etc etc. until we reach the Oldham / Rochdale level.

I doubt Keiron would take hes on a good wage at Sints and enjoys it , he lives in Leigh does he really need the grief some of the expert fans would undoubtabley give him? i would have him in a shot but we'll see.

Did well but was with an expensively assembled squad if memory serves me right.

The lad got Hobbo playing out of his skin (and into the CH1 team of the year if memory serves!)......so his motivational skills aren't in doubt!!!
