For me Purtill seems the ideal fit - he's been an assistant in SL for a few years now, and worked under some quality head coaches. He's 'one of ours' - which is always a plus for the Leigh faithful, but unlike Rowley, having been detached from the set-up at Leigh for several years, he's gonna be able to come in and put his own stamp on things, without the worries of putting mate's noses out of joint.

That said - I'm still holding out the hope that Ian has his recommended replacement already lined up....... 'cos his last one made a decent fist of it!! And - Basil having already done the 'box-ticking' spade-work - there is not the added pressure of trying to win a GF...which means the club can concentrate on the other elements - ie improving the investment in local youth, and growing the business through increased attendances/merchandising/etc.....not easy in this division, I grant - but essential if this club is ever to compete 'at the top-table' again!!

Lets just hope we get some favourable news about investment sooner rather than later - 'cos whoever gets the job doesn't want to be encumbered with that sort of uncertainty from day one!!

Difficult, speculating about our new coach until we know where we are financially.

Noble will be no use to us if we can't afford to pay him.

Wouldn't surprise me if we promote from within (Neil Jukes) as a stop gap until we know what direction the club is going to be heading in.

Apparently Noble's wage demands were too high for Cas & Wakey (during negotitation stage).

There you go - if a couple of SDL clubs can't afford him, how would a club in the Ch., who are currently in a bit of a financial 'pickle' have any hope of securing his services??

Methinks 'Nobby' will be warming his a**e 'on the bench' for some time to come yet!! For me, his biggest mistake was taking the GB job....as he had the opportunity to go to Aus when he left Bratfurt - which could have taken him to the next level coaching wise.
Some say he did alright as coach of the national side, but - in the final analysis - he progressed GB no farther than any other boss in the last 40 years!!
Again - he had the chance to go to aus and further his credentials, but chose instead to take the 'poison chalice' of a floudering W*gan.
He steadied the ship at the then JJB, but failed to make that push (5 or 6 semi-final failures tells it's own story!)....his replacement, with only one addition to the same squad of players gets them the SDL crown at the first attempt!!....then follows that up with a Challenge Cup, and potentially another GF appearance!!
Meanwhile a 'well-rested' Mr. Noble took a 'step-down' to a consultancy role at the 'enigma' that is Halifax - last season's Ch. GF winners, who couldn't buy a win in early season as they had a defence like a sieve!! Step up Nobby to 'steady the ship' - and the chance to resurrect his profile by steering them to another piece of silverware!! All appeared to be coming together, as results improved, and 'fax played their way to the Trains Cup final in Blackpool (immediate opportunity to 'tick the box' again for the next round of SDL licences - having missed out this time).......
Alas, Nobby's 'Midas Touch' eludes him yet again.....and he goes back to his part-time punditry with the Beeb!!

I'm not arguing with Brian Noble's record as a coach (the success with the Bulls speaks for itself!)....but maybe his methods have not 'progressed' at the same rate as the sport - and he may find himself increasingly out of touch ....in the same way that AJM stuck to his way of doing things - while the sport moved on around him!!

Right, i've refreshed everything and added a few other suggestions from the thread, and taken some out who have either rules themselves out or got other jobs, see where it stands now........

Hasn't Morgan agreed to join Canberra as number 2? Long also at Salford, doubt he'd jump straight in head coach.

i would imagine we will be having this person in place very soon, so as he can choose his players, otherwise theylll all be signed up elsewhere if we wait till after the season finishes.

I would have thought that the new board / investors would need to be in place before a new coach is appointed. If I was going to take over the club I would want to choose my own head coach. I think that Neil Jukes / Paul Rowley will be appointed on a temporary basis until a new investor takes over.

Does anything actually happen on the playing side of a club for a couple of months after the season ends?.

The Watcher really hopes Crompton gets the coaching roll at our club. He is a young coach who did very well at Blackpool under awkward working conditions & he wont cost much in wages.

Purtill has someway to go before he is ready to be a headcoach, and he would be disastrous for all the good work that Millward has done.

I have cast my vote for DA, but I think the vote is flawed due to people already casting their vote before DA was added to the list.

Well, put it this way.....Millward's key is man management and team spirit!!!!!!!

Ispoke Today with a guy who is interested , he has plenty of experience to , knows Leigh , the name TOMMY DICKENS , give the man the job .

How about Norman Turley?....the only man in Leigh history with a 100% results record as head coach IIRC!!
