According to: www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/ru ... -25113894/ RFL representatives will be attending the Gateshead pledge meeting. They have either been told by the RFL or decided themselves that they need to raise £100,000 through sponsorship and looks like they can guarantee £50,000 at the moment.
Is the success of this pledge meeting basically going to decide your fate or is it not linked to what the RFL are going to decide to do with Leigh? It appears to me that depending on how much Gateshead can raise will decide what division they will be in.

| Should the RFL allow Gateshead to continue it can only be in Champ 1 they could not possibly be competative in the Championship.

According to that article, Thunder have until January to complete this £100k funding. Presumably, the RFL will have decided on who plays in what competition, by then? Also, Dave Hadfield, in the Independent, stated that Thunder have requested a place in Championship One. Surely the RFL wouldn't go against those wishes, would they?

Fred, it would also appear that some Championship One chairmen have said they don't want Leigh in their League, because of their overwhelming 'favourite' tag!!! They seem to think they wouldn't get a sniff at the honours, with us there!
Faced with those facts, and the RFL history, I can't help feeling that the RFL are likely to upset everyone, with their decision!

tbh they are in a lose-lose situation.....if they are consistent they leave us relegated as per rules and deduct 9 points as per rules. Or they bend rules by off field decisions of letting clubs decide which leagues they want to be in
Its a very weird situation to be in at moment tho. Really hope we can stay up

| This situation is oh so typical of the RFL, what a shambolic collection of administrators. If this were any other sport the decision would have been made by now but over & over again the games governing body drag their feet making a mockery of our great game.
There will be a rule regarding this matter & that rule should be adhered to.

I agree that it's an awkward one for the RFL - and one they can't rush, despite pressure from clubs. If they applied the rules consistently, Thunder would remain in the Championship, with a nine point deduction next season. However, it looks like Thunder have applied commonsense and opted to rebuild in the best place - Championship One. The RFL should also apply commonsense and let them do that.
However, the next step is less clear - the Championship clubs may want Leigh back in, (didn't W***n say they would prefer Leigh in SL, to the 'development' clubs?!) as they also want an even number of clubs in the Championship - and more fixtures. So, from the RFL's point of view, there may be more decisions to make, before this is finalised.
As for the urgency of a decision, well it was hardly the RFL's fault that Gateshead went bust, when they did.

Possibly. Although their problem stems from a couple of overseas' investors not stumping up the'readies'. It could well be that Steve Gartside covered that, with his cash, and therefore their income was enough to cover the Cap.
Of course, now he wants his money back, that begs the question - did they have any income at all?

| Ste Garside put £540,000 in over 3 years to cover the money that the other backers didn't put in........ he called a meeting to sort it out but the overseas investors (from Gibraltar) couldn't be bothered turning up or even getting in touch with him.
He couldn't continue to support the club in the current way financially so commenced proceedings to wind the club up.
As the rules state if you go into Admin (as Widnes did)- the 9 point deduction comes off next season................. Gateshead were wound up so the points are deducted from this season and relegates Gateshead as the go below us and Toulouse in this seasons table.
Then again this is the RFL were talking about and we will prob still go down.

| Gateshead didn't go into Administration, they were completely wound up as a company and club. Therefore, if they want to continue, they start a fresh as a new company, new club, in the bottom tier.

Just to keep you guys updated. From the last tackle forum, Rod Findlay has posted the following (and more) earlier today:
It is the RFL's decision which division the club will play in in 2010 if the business plan is approved after Wednesday's Pledge Meeting. Hence the lack of a statement from the club. It is not our decision.
Sounds very much to me like they are intending on attempting to stay in the Championship. source: www./forums/index. ... ,70.0.html
